A single .45 ACP round, fired by John Moses Browning from the grave, destroyed the Ploesti Oil Refineries back in World War II, thereby making additional and highly dangerous bombing missions unnecessary. In fact, the ricochet wiped out a platoon of German Panzerkampfwagen VI tanks. True story? Nah. But according to the hearsay reputation of the awesome destructive power of the venerable .45 ACP, it might as well be. And make no mistake, the .45 ACP is a proven performer while the 9mm may or may not perforate damp Kleenex depending on the ambient humidity.

As an ex-military (veteran) professional with combat experience from active duty in the Middle East I got to use many a weapon, some out of mandatory compliance and others out of preferred choice. There are many weapons available for different jobs, but there is one weapon that sticks out as all-around combat, hunting, training and for home safety too. This weapon is the half-century-old AR-15, yup; you heard me right, its over half a century old. The AR-15 is now the worlds most versatile, and parts produced gun around. You can buy, build and configure AR-15s to just about any purpose.

The past week has seen a media frenzy on the subject of gun blueprints. Over a short period of time, the only thing that has become clear with this issue is that people are confused. Headlines waver between discussing files, 3D guns, and undetectable firearms. All, quite obviously, are very different things. But lines are becoming blurry, with commentators bouncing between the First and Second Amendments. Let us make one thing clear: This issue has everything to do with the First Amendment, and if we continue to confuse it with the Second Amendment, we will damage both.

In the run-up to the Kansas Republican primary to take place Tuesday, there's been a radio commercial playing in Kansas City (and, presumably, throughout the state) that says, "Breaking News! Bob Dole has endorsed Jeff Colyer for Governor. Dole has indicated that Colyer is the only candidate who can defeat Kris Kobach."

Iowa Department of Natural Resources officials are curious what the public thinks of proposed increases to hunting and fishing licenses. The DNR is considering the implementation of a $3 rate increase to resident hunting and fishing licenses, bringing the cost to $20 per license. The fee increase would not include the vendor or convenience fee that is added to the transaction.

Emmet County Prosecutor James Linderman has released a statement about the recent incident involving Representative Lee Chatfield at the Pellston Regional Airport.

In July, Chatfield was trying to board a plane at the airport when an unregistered handgun was found in his bag.

According to a post on his Facebook page, Chatfield said he carries the gun on a daily basis for the protection of himself and his family.

Linderman said Michigan's statute MCL 259.80f prohibits carrying a firearm into the "sterile area" of an airport.

According to Linderman, Chatfield did not register his firearm within the applicable time after purchase.

Per Michigan statute, this omission is a civil infraction.

Arming teachers are more than a theory. Armed school staff are now a well-worn reality.

The FASTER program teaches school staff to stop a threat and to treat the injured. That program has been in place for the last five years and has trained over a thousand teachers.

These first responders have many days of instruction. Once they are back home, these teachers apply what they learned as they protect their schools. We have thousands of man-years of experience with armed school staff.

School is about to start in the fall, and we learn more every day.

MI: Prosecutor: No charges for lawmaker who brought gun to airport

The second-ranking Republican in the Michigan House will not face criminal charges for attempting to bring an unregistered, loaded handgun through security at a northern Michigan airport in July.

The state law that refers to the presence of guns in an airport is not current with federal statute as to where in the airport that prohibition extends and is therefore unenforceable, Emmet County Prosecutor James Linderman said in a statement Monday.

Rep. Lee Chatfield, the House speaker pro tempore, apologized for the incident last week and said he made an inexcusable mistake when he accidentally left a handgun in a bag that he attempted to carry through security.

Submitters note: I guess it was excusable, for the ruling class.

In the midst of last weeks hysteria over 3D plastic guns, CBS News reported that, over the past two years, the Transportation Safety Administration had intercepted thousands of guns at security checkpoints, including a handful (that) were created with a 3D printer.

The NYPDs counterterrorism chief called the possibility of 3D-printed assault weapons truly unbelievable. This is just insanity, John Miller told John Catsimatidis on his Sunday AM 970 morning radio show. He pointed out that gun control advocates pressed for years to pass legislation requiring universal background checks for new gun owners. The gun control laws still have major loopholes that need to be addressed, like allowing gun buyers to avoid the check at gun shows, Miller said.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. Robert Heinlein
