New York Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday filed a civil lawsuit in New York Supreme Court, seeking to dissolve the National Rifle Association.

The move comes at a time when NRA is fully involved in the 2020 election process and will be interpreted by many as an effort to cripple the organization and reduce its political influence at a critical moment.

The King County, WA prosecutor has filed a first-degree murder charge against a teen who is not in custody and whose whereabouts are unknown, in the June 20 slaying in Seattles so-called Capitol Hill Occupied Protest zone, and there are details in this case that ought to raise a fury with the gun ban lobby, but so far there hasnt been a peep.

King County, Washington is in the midst of a violent crime spike as the office of Prosecutor Dan Satterberg is reporting the first six months of the year saw more people shot than in any of the previous four years over the same time period.

There is no small irony in this, because King County, which encompasses Seattleheadquarters to the billionaire-backed Alliance for Gun Responsibility, a gun prohibition lobbying groupis something of the bastion of Pacific Northwest gun control.

His brother, Christopher Ronald Perkins, 43, of the same address, was shot and transported to an area trauma center. He has since been released from the hospital, said Sheriff Steve Whisenant in an email.

The National Rifle Association could spend tens of millions in battleground states with just months until the 2020 election, despite a steep fundraising hit due to the coronavirus.

If former Vice President Joe Biden succeeds in ousting President Trump, and if Democrats take control of the Senate and maintain their grip on the House, the shift in power would threaten the rights of gun owners, the NRAs Jason Ouimet told the Washington Free Beacon Thursday.

You are literally going to be dealing with the potential confiscation of firearms, he told the outlet. You're literally going to be told you can't carry in certain places. You can't own certain things for self-defense.

The Salt Lake County District Attorneys office presented the proposals to the Legislatures Criminal Code Evaluation Task Force Thursday. The discussion comes in the wake of the Salt Lake City police killing of Bernardo Palacios-Carbajal in May. The officers involved were cleared last month, which prompted protests.

The proposals include holding officers to the same standard of self defense as the public, and requiring law enforcement to use the least deadly weapon available to them that would still be effective.

Since March, many industries have come to a stuttering halt or had to adjust their operations quickly to remain afloat amid COVID-19. However, the weapons industry, particularly gun ownership among both women and men, has seen a huge spike amid the pandemic and nationwide protests.

An estimated 46.3 percent of adults own guns in Arizona in 2020. Women gun ownership accounts for more than 20 percent of gun owners nationwide. In 2019, about 5.8 million background checks were done for overall gun purchases and is up 69 percentto 9.8 million in 2020 so far.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeal in San Francisco denied prosecutors' efforts to overturn U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro's decision to stop a months-long trial in January 2018 for "flagrant" prosecutorial misconduct and her dismissal of the criminal indictment so it could not be re-filed.

"The judgment is affirmed," Judge Jay Bybee wrote for the three-judge panel that heard oral arguments May 29. The judges found Navarro properly identified violations of "recognized statutory or constitutional" rights, and she had the authority to punish the government "to deter future illegal conduct."

Greetings, fellow bikers. This article deals with the second critical component of a self-defense claim: Imminence. The first column in this series dealt with Innocence and can be found HERE.

As stated in article one, the use of lethal force is justified if you are acting in self-defense, protecting yourself, your family, friends or another person. But in order for a self-defense claim to be successful, all of these components must be successfully proven:

Innocence
Imminence
Proportionality
Avoidance
Reasonableness

Still, in a few important respects, much has changed, and for the worse, since the enactment of the unconscionable and unconstitutional Sullivan Act.

In the 109 years since handgun licensing began, New York Citys laws have become more extensive, more oppressive and repressive, and confoundingly difficult to understand. These laws are a labyrinthine maze of ambiguity and vagueness, and they are singularly bizarre.

Jason Ouimet, who runs the NRA's lobbying arm and political action committee, spoke exclusively with the Washington Free Beacon in his first in-depth interview on the gun-rights behemoth's 2020 electoral strategy. He said the group plans to spend heavily in battleground states to help reelect President Donald Trump over presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, whom he described as "100 percent anti-gun." The group plans to focus much of its attention on Arizona, Colorado, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Wisconsinswing states with traditionally strong support for gun rights.

The United States accounts for less than 5% of the world population, but it owns more than 40% of the planets weapons for civilian use. Without an official figure, it is estimated that there will be some 350 million, more than inhabitants in the country. According to Pew Research, three out of ten adults have at least one and three others would consider having it in the future.

"You're full of s***... I support the Second Amendment." So exclaimed Joe Biden to a Michigan worker in early March, drawing lots of headlines in the process. But while the coronavirus pandemic quickly drowned out the issue, gun owners don't appear to have forgotten or been assuaged in their concerns. As Biden has risen in the polls, so have gun sales to a record 1.79 million in this past month alone.

The truth is that gun owners have good reason to be concerned. Despite Biden's declarations, his campaign's so-called Plan to End Gun Violence contains several provisions that should give gun owners serious pause about casting their vote for the Democrat.

In late March, three juvenile suspects allegedly broke into immigrant Jowan Zubers smoke shop in Arlington, Virginia, as 33-year-old employee Hamzeh Abushariah was asleep in the back.

Awakened by the noise, Abushariah reached for his pistol, stepped out onto the sales floor and discharged his weapon, striking one of the suspects. He then fled to the back of the store, quickly dialed 911 and then returned to the front to fire more shots and scare the criminals away.

It's been a year since a gunman killed nine people and injured 27 others in Dayton's Oregon District. Despite public outcries to "do something," and Gov. DeWine's promise to do so, very little progress has been made on gun reforms.

DeWine's original 17-point plan included measures for stronger background checks and a "red flag" law that would allow police to confiscate guns of people deemed dangerous. Neither of those reforms made it into the "STRONG Ohio" legislation that was introduced in the Ohio General Assembly.

Georgias citizens arrest law came to the national forefront earlier this year after several men misused it to justify chasing down and killing Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old jogger the men said they suspected of burglary.

Now, some Georgia legislators are pushing to repeal the law, claiming it has racist origins and is outdated in an era of modern law enforcement.

Although no legislation has been formally introduced, the outcry has been substantial enough that a state House of Representatives committee recently held hearings about repealing the citizens arrest law.

Minutes after James announcement, D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine announced a separate lawsuit against the NRA Foundation, stating that the group misused charitable funds to support wasteful spending by the NRA and its executives. The lawsuit alleges that the foundations board of directors was controlled by the NRA and allowed the NRA to exploit it through risky multimillion-dollar loansincluding a $5 million loan that the NRA has never repaid.

The good news is that theres been plenty of official blowback. Missouri Gov. Mike Parson tweeted that We will not allow law-abiding citizens to be targeted for exercising their constitutional rights. He has promised a pardon if theyre convicted.

Attorney General Eric Schmitt is working to get the case dismissed, noting that, in addition to the U.S. and Missouri constitutions, Missouri law recognizes the castle doctrine. This allows residents to use force against intruders, including deadly force, based on self-defense and the notion that your home is your castle.

Less than four years later, the NRA is in shambles. None of its major legislative priorities have been enacted. As of late July, it had spent less than $250,000 on the 2020 federal elections, a startling fall from the huge amount it shelled out in 2016. And on Thursday, New York Attorney General Letitia James announced that she is suing to dissolve the organization for alleged fraud and self-dealing. Broke, rudderless, and mired in costly litigation, the NRA is now facing a real possibility of going out of businessor being forcibly dismantled. How it happened is a remarkable story of self-dealing, betrayal, and two small, seemingly innocuous New York state regulators few have ever heard of.

A North Miami man will not be prosecuted for fatally shooting his former lover because he was under attack with brass knuckles designed to also act as a powerful stun gun.

The state on Thursday declined to press charges against Bernard St. Pierre for the July 16 fatal shooting of George Addison, who also went by the name Cleo. The two had been in an on-again, off-again relationship.

North Miami police had arrested St. Pierre on a charge of second-degree murder. But according to a final memo on the case, prosecutors said St. Pierre only fired after he was hit with the knuckles which were also capable of shooting an electric volt similar to a Taser stun gun.
