"When is an anti-gunner a pro-gun advocate? The obvious answer is never, but that's too simple a response. The actual answer is 'any time a member of the media wants to portray the anti-gunner in a pro-gun light'. Take, for example, a new article in The New Republic entitled 'Gun Crazy: The Revolt Against the NRA' by Michael Blanding. Blanding, a freelance writer from Boston, profiles the group calling itself American Hunters and Shooters Association. AHSA bills itself as a 'moderate alternative to the NRA', but in reality its an organization founded by leaders in the anti-gun movement who have strong ties to the Brady Campaign." ...

The older brother also was shot trying to go in through Thomas' bedroom door, Suttles said." ...

"City officials are calling it one of the most successful gun buy back programs in the country as the Yonkers City Police Department collected almost 900 firearms during a month-long gun amnesty program offered by Mayor Philip Amicone."

"The anonymous, no questions asked program offered cash in return for guns $200 per handgun, $100 per long gun and gave city residents an easy way to get dangerous weapons out of their houses and off the streets."

"'This is a small but significant victory in our continuing battle to get illegal guns off our streets,' said Amicone. 'By no means is our work finished, but we can take some measure of satisfaction in knowing that there are almost 900 guns that will never be used in crimes against our citizens.'" ...

"Worthington resident Allen Davis allegedly opened fire on a group of high school students near his yard last Tuesday, critically wounding one. Davis is currently in custody facing felonious assault charges. While the senseless tragedy has prompted an outpouring of emotion in the community, several Ohio lawmakers have taken a more dry-eyed approach."

"Concluding that shooting someone in Ohio currently leads to too much legal liability, 22 House members and 15 state senators have co-sponsored legislation that would make it harder to prosecute people who use deadly force in what they claim to be self-defense." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Of course the one has nothing to do with the other, since Davis 'allegedly' shot at the group as they drove past his house, and could hardly claim 'reasonable fear' of 'bodily harm'.

"Bicycling enthusiasts have something to celebrate when changes to Ohio law will make cycling laws conform more with those that apply to motor vehicles this September."

"Supporters call it the best solution to a 'crazy quilt' of laws that exist across the State of Ohio that nobody can easily comply with while traveling between local jurisdictions. ..."

"Sound familiar?"

"... The argument to pass statewide pre-emption for bicyclists is just as sound and almost taken right out of the playbook of gun owners seeking the same reprieve." ...

A report of a man with a gun inside a city grocery store caused a brief panic Tuesday, but there was no crime committed and no harm done, city police said.

A person who was shopping at Weis Market on Walnut Street went to the police station to say she had seen a male shopper with a gun. Chief John Brown said police responded and found that the person with the gun was visiting his girlfriend at the store. He had just returned from a shooting range and still had his gun with him.

"When he bent over, the individual saw a gun and reported it to us," Brown said.

He said the man did have a permit for the firearm and no further investigation was needed.

Ohio's Attorney General Jim Petro announced the 2nd quarter statistics today for concealed handgun licenses issued during this past quarter. "Well, after two weeks, my SKS is finally ready to take to the range. ... we're gonna take it out to the range, zero it in, and burn a couple hundred rounds."

"What kept me from taking it earlier, after I got it all cleaned up, was the sights. The standard SKS sights have an incredibly small notch in the rear leaf sight, which is bad enough. But what's even worse is that the rifle has a tiny, hair-thickness front post sight. I found that, if I was aiming at anything other than a white background, I would just lose the front post.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
...but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights... Alexander Hamilton speaking of standing armies in Federalist No. 29.
