... "True enough. Add to that no shortage of rage directed at those who defend the right to keep and bear arms accompanied by frenzied opportunistic blood dancing and demands that 'we do something,' unspecified, naturally, and it looks like its once more time for gun owners to hold fast and not give an inch."
"Except the gun group perceives changes to firearms laws can be made. And it apparently assumes we on the 'shall not be infringed' end of the spectrum are going to be OK with that." ... |

"Some weeks its hard to decide which new anti-gun 'study' to dismember. The problem is that there is so much propaganda coming so fast and furiously. Its like lobbing a lot of crude missiles at a target hoping to do some damage even though none of them are explosive. I cant recommend too highly Chris Coxs NRA-ILA report of August 26, 'Weird Science' as a brief guide to the junk science that is the last resort of a cause sailing a leaky boat. As Cox says, watch out for 'cherry-picking the data' to prove a point and for 'garbage in, garbage out'. Id add to beware when correlations are trumpeted as likely causation. To paraphrase W.C. Fields, we are being 'dazzled with bs' . . ." ... |

"The war of words over the right to keep and bear arms is heating up today, in the pages of the Seattle Times with anti-gun columnist Jerry Large on one side and Kurt Schlicter at Townhall.com on the other, while over the weekend came allusions to Australia-type gun confiscation and a swipe at media and politicians who stir up trouble."
"As Schlicter puts it this morning, Sure, liberals never met a civil right that actually exists in the Constitution that they didnt want to violate, but they have a special hatred for the Second Amendment. And just why do they hate the Second Amendment? Because it protects the right of people to resist." ... |

"According to a Force Science Institute study [full report after the jump], a police officers memory after a shooting is highly unreliable. Same goes for you. Thats why you should never agree to a post-defensive gun use police interview without a lawyer present (but do provide details that can help the police apprehend criminals or identify witnesses). 'Investigators need to remember that an officer who misses or misstates information about an event that later becomes significant is not necessarily being deceptive or self-serving,' the report recommends. Thats true for both cops and [non-LEO] citizens, although youre hardly likely to get the same slack as brother officer. Just sayin . . ." ... |

"'Had [TV news killer Vester] Flanagan lived in New York State, the story would likely have been very different,' nydailynews.coms Robert J. Spitzer writes. 'I know this first-hand, because I applied for a state pistol permit two years ago. Had Flanagan been required to do what I had to do, it is highly unlikely that he could have legally obtained a permit, and therefore a gun.' Highly unlikely. Legally. Two qualifiers which tell the tale. Truth be told, criminals and crazies have no problem obtaining a gun illegally, which renders Spitzers argument moot. But lets see how he came to that irrelevant conclusion . . ." ... |

"Americas gun violence worsened on Wednesday as WDBH7 reporter Alison Parker, along with photographer Adam Ward, were brutally gunned down whilst reporting live on air. There is seemingly a never-ending spree of gun violence currently in America and this latest incident has once again led to renewed calls for gun control. Proposed gun controls laws would have very little impact on the numbers of gun homicides; the only true cure is to repeal the Second Amendment." ... |

"The harder states make it to get guns like New York the fewer people die because of them, a new analysis of firearm restrictions shows."
"New York State, with its relatively strict laws restrictions that are even tougher in the five boroughs had 4.2 gun deaths per capita in 2013, the third-fewest number of gun-related deaths nationwide, according to the National Journals study released Monday."
"It examined gun-related deaths of all types from murders to suicides and accidental shootings in the year 2013 and found while its certainly true that a number of factors contribute to the high rates of gun violence in the U.S., a comparison of state laws versus rates of shooting deaths does show a correlation." ... |

"Until Congress and state legislators engage in serious discussion of reducing gun violence, let us consider a 28th amendment to the Constitution: 'The right of Americans to go about their lives in peace without fear of victimization by gun violence shall not be abridged.'" ... -------

We insure our cars, our houses, our boats and bodies, even our plane tickets and rental cars. And some of those policies are legally mandated. We should absolutely require gun owners to pay against the indemnity they might incur when their gun does what it is statistically most likely to do kills or injures them, or someone else." ... -------

"In the wake of yet another killing spree by an Obama voter, there were the predictable calls to 'do something' about guns. It was no shock that the liberals preferred solution to the problem of Democrat mainstream media personalities murdering people because of their racial and sexual grievances was to disarm everyone who isnt a Democrat mainstream media personality who murders people because of his racial and sexual grievances. But what was shocking was how quickly the anti-civil rights left moved on to pursue other tyrannies." ... |

If they didnt respond within a millisecond a message appeared asking participants to make the decision faster, as reported by NPR." ... |

"The phrase 'police militarization' conjures up an image of cops wrapped in Kevlar, barging into homes with semi-automatic weapons. But familiar as that image is, we don't know how common it is. There are simply no good statistics on police tactical operations in America. The federal government doesn't keep track, and neither do the states with one exception: Utah."
"The pressure to start counting the operations there dates back to 2012, after a drug raid gone wrong in Ogden. A tactical team from the local drug task force had gone into a little house where marijuana was being grown. But they ran into gunfire. In the chaos, five officers were hurt, and one was killed. The resident ... later said he thought he was being robbed." ... |
