"The Connecticut-based editorial board of the theday.com has a great idea lets lock up guns so that people cant use them to commit suicide! The articles title, Agree, at least, to safe gun storage makes it clear that they consider this to be one of those 'simple, straight-forward, common-sense' restrictions so beloved of those who favor civilian disarmament. I mean surely we can all agree that reducing suicide rates is a good thing and safe storage laws can hardly be counted as infringements ... Right? To 'prove' their point they offer up lots of facts with very little context. Naturally I feel honor-bound to provide that context . . ." ... |

"Virginia attorney Alan Gura, who won both the 2008 Heller case and the 2010 case of McDonald v. City of Chicago before the U.S. Supreme Court, and also won Moore v. Madigan before the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, forcing the state of Illinois to adopt a concealed carry statute, will be one of the highlight speakers later this month at the 2014 Gun Rights Policy Conference at the Chicago O'Hare Airport Hyatt Regency, an event that will also feature several national gun rights leaders." ... |

"On-going opinion polls that launched yesterday at MSNBC and CNBC regarding an effort to get Kroger stores to ban firearms, and Panera Breads request that customers leave their guns at home appear to be blowing up in the faces of gun prohibitionists who want guns banned."
"Ironically, while Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America has pressed Kroger on the ban, a couple of stories in the past 48 hours have reinforced the notion that its safer to carry. ..." ... |

"My name is Robert Farago and I am a keyboard commando. You see the slick way gun guru Jabo Long loads his gun, does a press check, knocks it on the ass and puts the safety on? Longs precision, deliberation and automation makes my gun handling look like a baby fumbling with an apple. FWIW, this KC has nothing against appendix carry. I personally prefer outside-the-waistband carry and a reversible vasectomy. But I understand the carry methods practical advantages. That said, I still have a bone to pick (so to speak) with this demo. MOVE! Whenever I practice my draw on a non-square range . . ." ... |

"I teach high school English, a profession commonly thought to number among the most touchy-feely. I love books. And if that werent bad enough, Im a professional, classically trained singer, a first tenor. Yes, the highest male voice. One of a few goodand raremen, sometimes in tights. I regularly don a tuxedo and sing the works of the masters with a symphony orchestra, and I often get paid for singing. ... Ive been known to shed a tear at the occasional movie, and even during the many years on the police force in my misspent (relative) youth, people, upon learning my job, would exclaim in surprise: 'You dont look like a cop!' They couldnt tell me what a cop looked like, but they were pretty sure it wasnt me . . ." ... |

"Rugers take on Col. Jeff Coopers scout rifle design has been extremely popular. A short, relatively light weight bolt-action Jeep of a rifle chambered in .308 that can handle an awful lot of jobs really well for a large number of gun owners. Whats not to like? Now Rugers announced an expansion of their Gunsite Scout Rifle chambered in lighter-shooting 5.56/.223. The new chambering is priced the same the original at an MSRP of $1039 for most models. Press release after the jump . . ." ... |

"On August 20, 2014, the National Gun Victims Action Council issued a press release calling for a ban of 'Smart Scope' Military-Style Precision-Guided sniper rifles, manufactured by Texas-based TrackingPoint, from being sold to the public. These weapons, legally sold to civilians, allow even people who have never fired a gun to hit a target the size of a soup can from 1,000 yards away every timethats 10 football fields or over half a mile."
"Promptly, the pro-gun outlets guns.com, Outdoor Life and Ammoland and Lee Williams of the Herald-Tribune issued pleas for sympathy and 'understanding' for this weapon while non-gun extremists remained chillingly silent." ... |

"As usual with such laws, there were provisions for those establishments who didn't want permit holders to bring their guns inside, and the board of the synagogueI'm calling it Temple Ben Judah herewas meeting to discuss whether or not the synagogue would post."
"The one board member kept quiet until everybody was done. 'Is it my turn now?' he asked."
"Yes, it was."
"'Are you sure?' He was trying to be patient."
"Yes, they were sure. Let him rant for awhile. No harm." ...

"Montana Republicans this week accused Democrat John Lewis of having anti-Second Amendment friends such as U.S. House Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, who came to Montana recently to campaign for Lewis, who is running for Montanas lone House seat. The GOP said Hoyer has a 0 percent rating from the National Rifle Association. Supporting gun control or appearing anti-gun can cause big problems at the polls for Montana politicians."

"Missouri Republicans are clashing again with Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon on guns, as lawmakers approach a vote today that could overturn his veto of legislation allowing teachers to bring firearms to school and other residents to carry them openly in public."
"After multiple setbacks, a veto override would mark a victory in Missouri for backers of expanded gun rights. A measure that would have voided federal gun control laws died in the final hours of session this May. Nixon vetoed a similar bill last year that could have subjected federal officers to state criminal charges and lawsuits for attempting to enforce federal gun control laws." ... |
