Lubbock TX: Many questions unanswered in SWAT incident

"I want to know, was it necessary to have 24 SWAT team members out there, is that typical? ... I haven't gotten that report yet.

Another question I have is why did we go into that house? Why did we conduct that break and rake? For the life of me, I'm having a hard time understanding that.

It was 3:00 in the afternoon, you've got a man threatening to kill himself, he has not threatened to kill anyone else. ... Was it necessary to have that armored car out there for a domestic dispute? ... Was our SWAT team properly trained once it was out there?" --Mayor Sitton

"Probably in no other country is the devastation caused by restrictive firearm laws more evident than it is in Jamaica. Much of the criminality present today can be traced directly
back to the Gun Court Act of 1974, intended to 'take guns
off the streets, out of the hands of criminals, and to lock up
and keep gunmen away from decent society.'"

KABA NOTE: Also from the report: "Tanks and troops in armoured cars patrolled the streets of parts of Kingston last night as the Jamaican government struggled to restore order..."

The boy was downrange setting up targets. His father couldn't see him anymore and decided it would be a bright idea to resume shooting before finding his son.

The amazing, incomprehensible idiocy is surpassed only by the tragedy.

KABA NOTE: We accepted this submission as a reminder that: A)
this gun owner violated a basic rule of gun safety, B) the rest of us
didn't violate that rule, and C) he is the only one responsible for his
irresponsible actions -- none of us should pay for his poor judgement.

More than 100 Bay County residents can pick up their concealed weapons permits during the next week, after they took an oath Thursday to uphold a new gun law.

The law says local gun boards must approve permits for applicants who don't have a criminal record or a history of mental illness. Before, applicants had to show a need for a permit.

A West Carrollton High School freshman went straight to the office when he remembered he carried a pellet gun in his backpack. The boy told school officials that he had forgotten to remove the air-powered gun at home.

For his honesty, school officials gave him an automatic 10-day suspension with a recommendation for expulsion for one year. Ohio's "zero-tolerance" law, which makes it illegal to have a weapon on school property, requires the penalties, said Superintendent Rusty Clifford.

The handgun-safety test implemented in California was designed to get cheap, disposable handguns off the streets. But the state is finding that so-called "Saturday night specials" are passing safety requirements.

"They tried to make the test so tough that those guns wouldn't survive, but it obviously hasn't worked," said Bruce Cavanaugh, a former president of the California Firearms Dealers Association.

After he wrestled the gun away and had the woman safely handcuffed, he had another thought: "I'm not nearly as squared away on this as I need to be."
