Second, I havent met a law enforcement officer yet who thinks the good guy/bad guy rationale makes sense. And they will clearly tell you that until they control the scene, anyone with a gun in their hand will be treated like a bad guy. Is empowering common citizens to take policing into their untrained hands a good idea? |

When most people buy a gun for self-defense, they immediately feel better, and sometimes even invincible. Now, Im prepared! Thats the downside of hope.
...
But dont take my word for it. Consider the tragic case of Franklinton, North Carolina woman Tracy Williams. Her abusive ex-boyfriend, previously arrested 89 times, was reason enough for her to buy a gun and obtain her concealed carry license. When attacked yet again by the man, she fired once and hit him in the leg, at which point her gun jammed. She was unable to clear the jam or bring a second gun that she had available into the fight. She ran and was murdered. Her ex-boyfriend was able to not only load his gun but use it during the attack. |

Leah Gunn Barrett, the poorly-educated and dishonest director of New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYGV) recently suggested that women were too weak to defend themselves with firearms.
Maybe the flaccid vegans Barrett hangs out with in New York have that problem, but that message must not have penetrated as far as Dayton, Ohio, where a woman shot and defeated a home invader yesterday morning. |

Sarah Merkle finished her homework near midnight, but something was keeping her up. There was something about this moment she couldnt let pass. She may be only 15 years old, but something was telling her to speak out, to try to correct a momentous wrong that state leaders were on the cusp of establishing as law.

Las Vegas Valley mothers have banded together with others across the nation to demand stricter gun control laws.
A rally on Thursday was part of National Day of Action. The local group is called Moms Demand Action, and although some of them said they support the Second Amendment, they said their cause is protecting children.
Today was inspired by Andy Parker, the father of Alison Parker, the reporter who was killed two weeks ago. He said that he was going to do whatever it takes, Moms Demand Action member Sue Brooks said. |

People rallied on Thursday afternoon in downtown Asheville and across the country asking for gun sense.
The crowd echoed the father of one of the WDBJ TV shooting victims. They said when it comes to gun violence, enough is enough. That's something one man in the crowd knows too well.
Harry Pryde doesn't want you to be in his position.
"Our daughter was one of the 32 victims at Virginia Tech in 2007," he told the crowd.
The size of the crowd roughly matched the number of victims in the Virginia Tech shooting. |

Americans own an outlandish number of guns. The United States, which makes up only 5 percent of the global population, leads the developed world in civilian gun ownership, with over 42 percent of the total number of civilian-owned guns on the entire planet.
The United States also leads the worlds developed countries in gun violence with four times the amount of homicides by firearms than the next country on the list Switzerland.
One recurring argument that pro-gun politicians like to flaunt is that two of the jurisdictions with the strictest gun laws Chicago and Washington, D.C. have the highest rates of murder and crime.

Now lets head north to Tennessee. This surprised me, but in retrospect, it shouldnt have. A state representative has introduced a new bill that would allow public concert venues to ban guns at live events.
Think about that for a second. In Tennessee, you can legally carry a gun to a concert becausewell, its your Second Amendment right. Yes, concerts are often environment with raised emotions. Yes, I believe they serve alcohol at concerts (not to mention the drinking that goes on in the parking lot). And yes, Im pretty sure theres a little bit of drug use at concerts. Why would anyone think that taking a gun to a gig is a good idea? |

The typical vision of an Army office is set on an Army base, separated from the local community, doing "Army things." But, a unique feature of the U.S. Army Recruiting Command and its Soldiers is they are embedded in the community. In College Station, local business owners recognize the presence of their uniformed men and women and not only thank them, but try to help protect them.
Master Renee Nolte owns and operates a martial art studio, which teaches multiple forms of martial arts, including Krav Maga. After the Chattanooga recruiting station shootings, Nolte decided that would not happen in her community. Not if she had something to say about it. |

Weve come a long way since the Wild West days of carrying guns just on our hips.
A former Topeka woman has developed a way that only a woman could appreciate to carry a gun, in a discreet, pretty, and slimming style.
It was just simply patriotism, said Anna Henry, Founder and CEO of Dene Adams, LLC. I wanted somebody to do something about it.
Fed up with ugly, awkward, uncomfortable holsters not designed for women, the single mom of four started experimenting. |

When a criminal uses a firearm to commit a crime in America politicians, news media people and others with disdain for the view that the Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States guarantee to Americans an individual right to own firearms call it gun violence. The criminal is deemphasized and is absolved substantially of responsibility, and the responsibility is placed on an inanimate piece of hardware -- a gun -- as the violent perpetrator of the crime. |

Chuck Woolery, a long-time hit game-show host -- Wheel of Fortune, Love Connection, The Dating Game -- and a U.S. Navy veteran, is a strong defender of the Second Amendment and a harsh critic of the liberal media who relentlessly push gun control. As Woolery explains about assault rifles in the video below, "the real assault weapon is the liberal media, they are attacking your constitutional rights."
If you support the constitutional right to keep and near arms, you'll enjoy what Chuck Woolery has to say, with the facts, with his wisdom and with his biting wit. Enjoy! |

The best we could hope for is to identify a higher-risk group of people whom we could target for preventive treatment. But the only truly reliable, foolproof clinical intervention is long-term institutionalization, meaning we would need to hospitalize or incarcerate members of that higher-risk group.
Here we get into "Modest Proposal" territory. Who would make up such a higher-risk group? All people with a mental illness? Perhaps all people with certain mental illnesses such as schizophrenia or autism or narcissistic personality disorder? Because men seem to perpetrate most of these crimes, maybe all men with certain mental illnesses? Disgruntled former employees? Troubled young men who live with their parents? Postal workers? |

Milwaukee Police Department Chief Edward Flynn is calling for stricter sentencing for violent offenders to counter the city's spike in homicides, which are up almost 70 percent this year compared to the same time period last year. Flynn has consistently criticized Wisconsin gun policy and called for harsher sentences for individuals carrying firearms illegally.
Flynn, who made his remarks recently at an "On the Issues" public forum hosted by Mike Gousha at Marquette University, quickly dismissed a community-based policing model that has seen success in Racine, while acknowledging that his views might not be popular. |

Marcus Luttrell, the former Navy SEAL who was the subject of the book and movie Lone Survivor, has a chilling warning for Islamic extremists planning to attack American citizens at home:
Self-defense is what the Second Amendment is all about.
I know youre watching, so pay attention, he begins in a new promotional spot for the National Rifle Association. You hate my freedom, my religion and my country Dont ever confuse me for my politicians or my media. I am an American, free born and free bred My freedom is more powerful than anything you can possibly do. I will say what I think, worship according to my beliefs, and raise my children how I see fit. |
