"Following discussion with the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) the trade association for the firearms industry and many industry members, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) announced yesterday a major new ruling authorizing federal firearms licensees to use electronic (computerized) acquisition and disposition records provided the software used satisfies certain ATF requirements set forth in the ruling signed by Acting Director Michael Sullivan." ... -------
Submitter's Note: Not to sound cynical, but what happens to smaller dealers when the requirements keep changing, necessitating expensive updates? Or when 'allowing' electronic records becomes 'requiring' electronic records thus 'requiring' purchase of expensive software packages? And having these computerized records would sure make it easier for some future anti-gun administration to compile computerized lists of gun owners. |

"As of last Thursday, I, a 21-year-old female college student, have exercised my Second Amendment right to bear arms. I must say, as the only female at Turner's Outdoorsman, I felt somewhat out of place; however, I was confident that my decision to purchase a gun was a necessary and responsible choice. Having shot a firearm before, I passed the Handgun Safety Test, missing only a question pertaining to the age you must be before you can purchase a concealable weapon (I learned it is 21, not 18 as I had thought). After half an hour of paperwork and a handgun demonstration, I was on my way to the 10-day waiting period. ..." ... |

Supreme Court this summer negating the District's strict anti-gun laws and establishing for the first time that the Second Amendment clearly gives us all the constitutional right to have the capability of shooting one another. Since that time, Washington officials have tried to come up with city legislation that would preserve to some degree control over firearms in a city where gun violence is an every day occurrence." ... |

"Obama, interestingly enough, has tried for the last few months to portray himself as, if not exactly a friend to gun owners, at least not a mortal enemy. Obama likes to talk about 'audacity,' and I have to acknowledge that he has no shortage of it. Few things could be more audacious than to claim, with a legislative record like Obama's, that he is no threat to private gun ownership."
"Perhaps the most telling example of his rabidly pro-forcible citizen disarmament voting record can be found here."

He said of Senator McCain telling voters they would bring change and Governor Palin, 'they must think you're stupid.' Given his stances on the surge, social issues, and his past, Mr. Obama will regret those words."

Park Service regulations now allow guns only if they are unloaded and stowed."

"It's a suburban neighborhood, on Sunday morning. There is a three-way stop at which hardly anyone ever goes the other direction than the main one. But you often see a police car in the nearby parking lot, keeping his sharp eye out for evil lawbreakers. These are the dangerous criminals who slow down almost to a full stop that causes the car to shift back the other direction, but don't quite do this. Instead they do what is sometimes called a 'rolling stop' which stops short of full immobilization. The policeman in the car regards this as 'running a stop sign,' as if you paid no attention to it at all, and he'll give you a ticket whenever he catches you doing it." ... |

A central Pennsylvania police officer has been fired a month after his arrest on charges that he had sex with a 16-year-old girl he met online.
State police say former Altoona Police Officer Herrick Johnson met the girl through a site that promoted law enforcement careers. State police say the 49-year-old Johnson drove to Indiana to pick up the girl at her family's home in July.
Johnson was charged last month. The Altoona City Council fired him Wednesday night.
City Manager Joe Weakland says the firing was made retroactive to Aug. 29, the expiration date during which Johnson could have appealed to keep his job.
But Weakland says Johnson never asked for a hearing. |
