Of those who died on September 11, 2001 during the terrorist attacks, all were martyrs, but some were also heroes. The passengers of United Airlines Flight 93 were not helpless victims. They stood up for themselves and for others, and while they were not able to save their own lives, they diverted the plane from its target. Due to their bravery, no one on the ground was hurt, though everyone in the plane was killed. |

Were not sure much would surprise us if we could share candid reflections with fellow Americans on the events of Sept. 11, 2001. We suspect that private thoughts from so varied a people on such a dreadful anniversary could be eerily similar, wildly divergent, or a sour colloid somewhere in between. Any of the possibilities seem to us entirely explicable.

In the course of this God-awful, drink-inspiring, litter-runt of a presidential election, it has become common to hear it said in certain of the Rights more histrionic quarters that conservatism has failed and needs to be burned swiftly to the ground.

The award-winning playwright E.M. Lewis grew up in rural Oregon, surrounded by guns. There were shotguns by the back door as protection against an intruder, because police were an hour away. She learned to shoot on a date with her husband-to-be. I own a gun, she writes in her autobiographical play, The Gun Show. Where I come from, its the kind of present guys give their women folk after theyve been going out for a while: paper, cotton, leather, linen, automatic handguns.

Here we go again. Smith & Wesson (NASDAQ:SWHC) reported blowout earnings for its fiscal 2017 first quarter earlier this month, and analysts right away predicted that the good times have come to an end for the gunsmith. But just like last time, they're misreading the data and arriving at the wrong conclusion. Smith & Wesson revenue isn't going to fall but will instead continue its impressive growth streak -- and here's why.

Gun grabbers are camouflaging sinister plans with slick catchphraseshoping youll barely notice when they pickpocket your pistol. Hillary Clinton is quietly building a massive gun grabber army. Its up to you to halt her momentum. Gun grabbers die hard because they insist on believing the same anti-gun theories even after encountering facts disproving their theories. They also die hard because its nearly impossible to defeat them. Which means, we must try harder. |

The Obama administration upped its commitment to get the United Nations Arms Trade Treaty ratified, a tall order since a bipartisan coalition of 50 senators have already said they oppose the gun treaty Secretary of State John Kerry signed three years ago. Second Amendment advocates are concerned the treaty could provide an international law rationalization for a national gun registry in the United States, and is overly vague. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
[The American Colonies were] all democratic governments, where the power is in the hands of the people and where there is not the least difficulty or jealousy about putting arms into the hands of every man in the country. [European countries should not] be ignorant of the strength and the force of such a form of government and how strenuously and almost wonderfully people living under one have sometimes exerted themselves in defence of their rights and liberties and how fatally it has ended with many a man and many a state who have entered into quarrels, wars and contests with them. George Mason, "Remarks on Annual Elections for the Fairfax Independent Company" in The Papers of George Mason, 1725-1792, ed Robert A. Rutland (Chapel Hill, 1970). |
