An auto sales company owner reportedly shot a man who police believe had been on a crime spree.

Police say that the 72 year old owner of Justice Auto Sales was asleep inside his Imperial, MO store when he awoke to the sound of an intruder, who entered the property through a hole in the barb-wire topped fence, tried to force open a door, and then finally broke a glass window to gain entry to the building. After a confrontation, the store owner is said to have fired his gun in self defense, striking the intruder and causing him to flee to the parking lot, where he fell dead from his wounds. Police believe that the intruder was behind a string of other break-ins and robberies, including one in which a gas station clerk was attacked.

The crime wave began in October 2008 and by the time Christmas rolled around the perpetrator was brazenly breaking into our homes in the early evening hours while we were home and awake and attacking men and women both.

We weren't dealing with the usual nickel and dime thief. Neighbors started whispering the word "psychopath" and sellers of security systems, surveillance cameras, guns, pepper spray and big barking dogs started doing a brisk business down in our 'hood.

The new neighborhood status symbol was a laser sight (for a gun). But "He" continued breaking in, each home invasion becoming more violent. The police were here in full force, in uniform and undercover, for months. The Sheriff's Department sent men and dogs.

No one in this country knows better than New Yorkers what devastation looks like. On September 11, 2001, the World Trade Center buildings and their surrounding area were reduced to rubble, burying nearly 3,000 Americans.

To this day, the images are difficult to comprehend; they show a concentration of man-made destruction unprecedented in the United States and perhaps anywhere on Earth.

New Yorks current murder rate pales in comparison to that of 2001, of course. But it also pales in comparison to what it was in other years gone by. Due in part to crime-fighting programs adopted under former mayor Rudolph Giuliani, New York Citys murder rate is only a fifth of what it was 20 years ago.

Mr. Bourke does your readers a disservice with his false portrayal of Dr. Gill. Dr. Gill feels we are already taxed more than enough.

He receives no money from the national Democratic Party or corporate special interest groups, and thus will not be anybodys puppet in Washington.

Mr. Bourke accuses Dr. Gill of catering only to the left-wing university elite. This is laughable Dr. Gill is a strong supporter of term limits, medical malpractice reform and our Second Amendment.

Mr. Johnson has been part of the problem in Washington for a decade. Dr. Gills independence represents something new in politics, and he will provide solutions.

A group of states seeking freedom from federal gun laws suffered a setback last week when a federal magistrate recommended dismissing a lawsuit by gun rights advocates who argue Congress has overstepped its bounds with gun control.

The magistrate upheld a ruling by the U.S. Department of Justice, which says courts have already decided that Congress can set standards on such items as guns through its power to regulate interstate commerce. The recommendation now awaits a federal judge in Missoula.

Some Republicans say that the Constitution needs to be changed because, as Sen. Graham said: "Birthright citizenship doesn't make so much sense when you understand the world as it is." He refers to the 14th Amendment and today's world.

The writers of the Constitution didn't account for things like: equality for women or nonwhites; nor guns that could fire many bullets in seconds.

- The Second Amendment applies only to single-shot weapons (like those that existed in the late 1700s).

"So now we have their so-called 'Political Victory Fund' afraid to take a stand and produce a political victory. What the hell else do they even exist for? And how does turning their backs on the best gun rights candidate in this race enhance their credibility in any race? The message that sends is, you can do everything in your power to promote that 'single issue' they say is all they care about, and they'll still hang you out to dry. That's some loyalty-building."

Spokane police say a 74-year-old pastor was reaching for a handgun in the waistband of his pants when he was shot by a sheriff’s deputy last month.

Pastor Wayne Creach was killed as he approached an unmarked police car in the parking lot of his Spokane Valley business after dark.

Police Lt. Dave McGovern said Tuesday that Deputy Brian Hirzel warned Creach several times to drop the handgun he was holding, and that Creach instead put it in the waistband. Hirzel ordered Creach to get on the ground, and struck him in the knee with a baton when Creach didn't respond.
