HOUSTON Police say two Bryan men were shot, and one of them killed outside a McDonald's in North Houston. However, the victims are actually the suspects in this case, because police say they were shot by a man they were trying to carjack.
Investigators say it happened Tuesday night at around 9:30 on the 7500 block of the North Freeway in Houston.
The carjacking victim was in the McDonald's parking lot returning a Redbox movie when two men armed with guns approached him demanding his car keys and cell phone, according to Houston police.
What the alleged robbers didn't know is their victim is a concealed handgun license owner.

Before the introduction of the Sig P938, a 9mm version of their P238, I had bought a new P238 Two Tone which came with plastic grips because I did not want to pay for fancy ones since I was going to replace them with Hogue Rubber grips. I still own the Sig P238 as do many other senior citizens around here, but never did a review, so here it is. It is very comfortable in my hand. At the range I found it very accurate and could do head shots at 10 yards all day. Out to 25 yards I was putting them in the chest area about 90% of the time. The whole gun is black.. The grips are black finger grooved Hogue rubber that have a palm swell that makes the gun fit your hand better. It has the standard Sig night sights, manual safety, etc.. |

As a young lad I read all the James Bond novels. Then the movies came out and I was in hog heaven. I would attend them alone because they were double features, Goldfinger and Dr. No, and you could sit in the theater and watch them over and over again. I spent whole days watching Bond movies. Of course, who could help not falling in love with the PPK. I remember that at first Bond used a Beretta but was forced to switch to the Walther PPK whose .380 round would be like throwing a brick through a glass window. Exact words used at the time. What did I know, I was only familiar with revolvers used in crime and cowboy movies at the time. |

According to Reuters, "The recall battle drew more than $3.5 million in campaign contributions. But the vast majority of the funds - nearly $3 million - came from opponents of the recall drive who support stricter gun control..." A notable amount of it came from outside Colorado. Mayor Bloomberg sent a personal check for $350,000 from New York. Eli Broad, another multi-billionaire, sent $250,000 from Los Angeles. |

The Republican Party hasn't been known for its sterling record on disability rights lately. Last December, 38 GOP senators memorably tanked the UN Convention on Persons With Disabilities over the pleading of former Senator Bob Dole, walking past his wheelchair to cast "no" votes and sparking widespread outrage among disability rights groups. In the past week, however, many disability groups have applauded an Iowa law allowing blind residents to carry concealed handguns, a rule change that has raised eyebrows from Iowa sheriffs to The Colbert Report. |

Gun control opponents took to City Hall Monday evening to voice their displeasure with both proposed and current restrictions and firearms.
State Rep. Gailanne Cariddi, D-North Adams, held a public hearing to gauge public opinion and receive feedback on the 65 proposed firearms bills currently sitting before the Joint Committee on Public Safety and Homeland Security.
Cariddi, who sits on the committee, said she would take local residents recommendations to the State House to be heard by her colleagues.
Further restrictions
The overwhelming majority of the crowd of more than 40 people was opposed to further restrictions on gun ownership.
"I live in an area with a lot of law-abiding gun owners," Cariddi said. |

Applying this perspective has led Freemen to stop paying taxes of all types, in particular income taxes, as well as no longer using state identification, including vehicle license plates, drivers permits, and birth certificates issued by the Canadian government. Freemen typically flaunt their distaste of firearms regulation as well, on the grounds of self-defense. They also eschew their legal birth names, invoking So-and-so of the ____ Family instead. |

In two rulings announced on Thursday, the Illinois Supreme Court came down on the side of the Second Amendment and the right to keep and bear arms.
In People v. Aguilar, the IL Supreme Court agreed with the U.S. 7th Circuit Court in Moore v. Madigan that there is a Constitutional right to carry a firearm outside the home for self-defense. In the case of a seventeen year old youth in possession of a handgun while in a friends yard, the Court held that there is a Constitutional right to carry a firearm outside the home for self-defense and therefore found that AUUW, for simply having a loaded, uncased firearm when not on your own property or place of business was unconstitutional and reversed Aguilars conviction. |

Published in the fall 2013 edition of Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons, Jane M. Orient, M.D. pens an article in which she picks apart both the current and previous attempts to address gun violence as a health problem rather than a crime problem.
Orient starts by explaining how the reliance on flawed public opinion surveys, misstatements about the current background check system, and use of emotional, inflammatory rhetoric belie the claim that the case for gun control is supported by evidence-based medicine, when, in fact, she claims it does not. |

Many media outlets have become incredibly adept at subliminally phrasing stories and headlines with the intent of marginalizing the Second Amendment and law abiding citizens who wish to have the choice of defending themselves.
A perfect example of this appeared yesterday in the Los Angeles Times. Their coverage of the Colorado state recall election featured a headline which read; In Colorado, gun control advocates cite caveats amid NRA win. |

In the unanimous ruling, written by Justice Robert R. Thomas, the court states, As the Seventh Circuit correctly noted, neither Heller nor McDonald expressly limits the Second Amendments protections to the home. On the contrary, both decisions contain language strongly suggesting if not outright confirming that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms extends beyond the home.
This is one more court rejection of claims by anti-gunners that the right to keep and bear arms is somehow confined to the home, said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. |

I think the result is correct, because Hellers reasoning does indeed apply to carrying for self-defense in most public places, and not just in the home. Indeed, Heller and McDonald v. City of Chicago had no occasion to squarely confront this question, because they dealt with total handgun bans, including on home possession. Heller does speak of the right of law-abiding, responsible citizens to use arms in defense of hearth and home, and stresses that the D.C. handgun ban extends to the home, where the need for defense of self, family, and property is most acute. Heller, 554 U.S. at 635, 629. |

However, that ruling was quickly overturned when a federal appeals court ruled that the good and substantial reason requirement was constitutional. Of course, the SAF appealed that ruling and is now hoping that the U.S. Supreme Court will hear the case.
In the meantime, those on both sides of the gun divide are reacting to the death of Kris Lee.
Cody Jacobs, an attorney with the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence, told the Baltimore Sun that this does not change our position that law enforcement should have discretion to decide who has the right to carry a gun in public, noting that the may-issue law is reasonable. |

Police detained two men openly carrying AR-15 rifles near Saturday's farmers market, setting off a debate this week about response at the highly attended event.
Appleton police say they received three 911 calls about the pair that appeared around 9 a.m. with the rifles.
Much of the situation was recorded and posted to YouTube, setting Internet discussion groups ablaze debating the situation with many claiming the police overreacted and violated constitutional rights. |

It's comforting to know that some things don't change. Even though the news is dominated by the explosive situation in Syria and the tumult over the provisions of ObamaCare, Cable News Network's Piers Morgan still found time on Thursday to devote to his favorite subject: gun control.
I'd like to suggest a new amendment to the Constitution: the right NOT to be shot/killed by a gun, the CNN weeknight talk show host posted on Twitter. It wasn't long before he was the subject of tweets declaring him the dumbest man alive and noting that murder is illegal already. Thanks for your input. |

The police are there to protect the public and this could have been an extremely serious situation. It scared a lot of people, [Alderman Curt] Konetzke said. I have no qualms about what they did. It caused a lot of nervousness my wife and daughter were at the event, it could have been a disaster.
Konetzke said he expects the city to vigorously defend any legal challenge of the detainment. In 2011, the City of Madison paid a $10,000 settlement to a group of gun activists that sued police over a stop at a Culvers restaurant.
Appleton police have been tightlipped about the situation that could bring legal challenges. |
