From time to time, I take my life in my own hands and write a column that I know lots of people will not like. This is one of those times.
The headlines in Milwaukee say homicides are up 80 percent. In Chicago they are up 23 percent. In Charlotte five more are dead in a drive-by shooting. The United States is on schedule to set a record of gun deaths in 2015.

The 14th anniversary this weekend of jihadist deadly attacks on domestic United States targets underscores the ongoing need for law-abiding individual citizen firearm rights," gun dean John M. Snyder said here today.
"Armed Americans must be ready, willing and able to stop murderous Islamists anywhere and anytime," Snyder added. "The anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks reminds us of this." |

Seattle is attempting its own version, prompting lawsuits from three gun-rights groups including the National Rifle Association. But the city's case may be quashed before it starts.
As proposed, the tax effective in January would add $25 to the purchase of each firearm sold in Seattle, plus 2 or 5 cents per round for ammunition, depending on the type. It's estimated to raise $300,000 to $500,000 annually for gun safety and violence-prevention programs, The Associated Press reports.

Hunters, anglers and trappers in South Dakota will notice now when logging into their account through the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks (GFP) online licensing system that their small game, fishing or trapping license has a bar code in the upper right hand corner.
This bar code allows GFP conservation officers to electronically scan the carry licenses on smartphone devices (Android, iPhone, etc.) while in the field in lieu of a paper copy. |

Drones are increasingly making their mark in the arsenal of US police forces, operating in a legal gray area and sparking concerns of constant surveillance of civilians.
The specter of armed drones surfaced with a law passed in North Dakota last month that allows police to equip the aircraft with teargas. "It's still a bit of a Wild West," said American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) policy analyst Jay Stanley. Since 2012, government agencies can use small drones -- weighing less than 55 pounds, or 25 kilograms -- under certain conditions and after obtaining a certificate from the Federal Aviation Administration.

Andrew Cuomo, as we all know, is a hard driving, focused strategist. This occasionally Machiavellian politician sometimes doesnt stop to consider the consequences of his actions. When it is appropriate, I have pointed some of those instances out. On the other hand, there are times when I really admire the mans courage. His stance on gun control, for example, deserves our support. The reaction to his SAFE Act was immediate and dramatic. A lot of Americans and New Yorkers, particularly upstate New Yorkers, love their guns.

I'm responding to the letter by Richard A. Damon in last Sunday's Billing Gazette. He's right about the violence in our country being a learned behavior, generational and endemic. But he draws wrong conclusions from these facts as he blames a symptom (guns) instead of the source (societal decay).
Just look at Chicago, St. Louis, Detroit and the other large metropolitan centers and what they have in common. For the most part, they're run by Democrat politicians, have the most restrictive gun laws, gang violence, drugs and police forces under siege.

Its one thing for the media to misconstrue the words of Second Amendment advocates, but its another level entirely when they lie about their own article. Lets continue reading:
About midnight Tuesday, deputies said, John Heisler crept onto the property and tried to break in through a front window. Andrews and her boyfriend, 47-year-old Alton Pyles, heard a loud crash and ran outside.

TTAGs #WhateverItTakes campaign was something of a success, internet-wise. After posting pro-gun pics riffing on Everytown for Gun Safetys #WhateverItTakes anti-gun agitprop, we leveraged our Google ranking to knock the antis efforts below TTAGs #WhateverItTakes position in Google search. We were also happy to see the rest of the gunblogosphere including the new, feisty NRA take up the challenge. Thanks to all who helped.

On September 9th 2015, the members of the Tucson City Council took a vote. It was a very interesting vote in that it could go down in history as one of the dumbest and most pointless votes in the history of my hometown. And it was unanimous. The seven members of the city council (all Democrats), including the Mayor and Vice Mayor, voted to support gun control legislation. If you read that carefully, youll see why thats so inherently insane . . .

Regarding gun violence:
Unfortunately, all societies have mentally ill people. Most societies don't arm them.
We also arm the angry, the violent, the jealous, bad guys, good guys, guys with a beef, good guys-who-turn-bad-guys, the responsible and the irresponsible.
In some cases, does anyone even know who it is we arm?shooting chapter is the first of its kind, in this part of the state. |
