"Those who complain about the lack of any real punitive outcomes must realize that there is only one way to alter this reality. That is if they become force multipliers, and share information that will otherwise remain confined to limited niche readerships. That means they must also actively demand action from their representatives with 'or else' consequences, and recruit others to do the same. Absent a commitment to do that, and if the 'profiles in apathy' inertia prevails, expecting anything to change is unrealistic." |

Washington State lawmakers should take the hint from Tuesdays recall vote in Colorado that supporting extremist gun control, whether in the form of legislation or an initiative, can have a toxic effect on their careers, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.
Voters in two Colorado districts encompassing Colorado Springs and Pueblo ousted a pair of Democrat state senators who helped pass restrictive new gun laws in the Centennial State earlier this year. One, State Sen. John Morse, was president of the Senate. The other, Angela Giron, had been thought to be in a safe district where Democrats outnumber Republicans by a wide margin. |

Some students at H. W. Byers High School in Slayden, Miss., said their show of patriotism got them called to the office. The school planned to use part of its Spirit Week activities as an opportunity to remember the 9/11 attacks. But a handful of students apparently misunderstood the dress code policy for Patriotic Day. Kelton Stewart and Clay Earnest are students at the school. Kelton, a sophomore, said they thought it would be okay on Patriotic Day to show their love of country, Were remembering people from September 11th in the Twin Towers. |

It seems a lot longer ago than just eight months. Back on January 16 of this year, President Obama sounded what was intended to be the keynote of his second term by saying that he intended to introduce a raft of legislative proposals intended to tighten controls of gun ownership. With the memory of the slaughter of little children at the Sandy Hook Elementary School by a mad lone gunman fresh in the minds of the new Congress, some believed he would succeed in not only getting gun-control bills passed but also in routing the National Rifle Association in such a manner as to break their hold on Washington power forever. |

The recent uproar over armed EPA agents descending on a tiny Alaska mining town is shedding light on the fact that 40 federal agencies including nearly a dozen typically not associated with law enforcement -- have armed divisions. The agencies employ about 120,000 full-time officers authorized to carry guns and make arrests, according to a June 2012 Justice Department report. Though most Americans know agents within the Drug Enforcement Agency and the Federal Bureau of Prisons carry guns, agencies such as the Library of Congress and Federal Reserve Board employing armed officers might come as a surprise. |

The weeks after a gunman killed 20 schoolchildren in Newtown, Conn., were characterized by a new optimism about a goal that had seemed elusive for almost a decade: tougher gun laws. The shooting was called on more than one occasion a game changer.
In the nine months since, although supporters of stricter legislation have won some victories, those high hopes have been tempered by a series of losses, most notably in April when the Senate defeated several measures to strengthen gun restrictions and then last week in Colorado, where two state senators who had backed stronger gun laws lost recall elections. |

I think that NYCPD should retrain their offices to aim for the bystanders. In this way, the odds are that they will miss the bystanders and hit the suspect instead. Like they say in Vegas, go with the odds.
One has to ask, why were they shooting at someone who was trying to die by getting hit by a car in the first place? Seems kind of counter productive to try to shoot someone trying to kill themselves, especially when innocent bystanders are shot instead. Perhaps now, you can understand why parents do not want armed police in their school. We already had one incident of a SWAT member having his gun fired by a student while still in his holster and once again the NYCPD had proven that it cannot hit a moving target.

For the last few years I have remarked to my wife that I have noticed that TV characters who played their roles as tough guys and gals, were starting to cry and get emotional more and more. This seemed to mirror what I was seeing in America where many men were being raised in single family homes, by their mothers. Look at the 50% divorce rate and the fact that the mother usually gets child custody and you will see what I mean.
What has happened to our macho heroes? Have they been replaced by heroes who are also very emotionally sensitive, to reflect the what is happening in America. Kill and strangle 100 guys during the day and then go home and weep because you missed your kid's birthday.

Chief Deputy Sheriff Marc Lancaster said on Sept. 13 that the four classes held since April have been filled to capacity and that those in attendance have been asking a lot of questions.
Highly publicized school shootings prompted record sales of license-to-carry permits here, the sheriff said, with many permit buyers being first-time gun owners. |
