For the past few years, pretty much everyone outside the group has been wondering what the heck is going on with the National Rifle Association. Its a major presence in American politics with millions of members who vote and a decent amount of money, and it played a big role in electing Donald Trump president. Lately, however, the organization has been in the news mainly for its crazy internal politics and alleged financial mismanagement.

America is currently experiencing one of the worst ammo shortages in living memory. You could literally trade someone their kidney for a box of 50-rounds of steel cased 9mm. Its that ridiculous. I decided to see if Canada was also experiencing an ammo shortage. On August 5, 2020, I visited two Canadian stores that sell ammo in Brockville, Ontario, Canada. The first was a Canadian Tire, which is basically the Canadian equivalent of Walmart. |

A board that oversees Michigans Capitol building on Monday put off making a final decision about whether to ban guns there, more than four months after armed protesters opposed to the governors coronavirus shutdowns entered the building.
The Michigan State Capitol Commission voted against two motions to ban all long guns and the open carrying of any gun at the Capitol, with commissioners saying they want to meet with lawmakers to discuss funding for enforcement before making a final decision. Both motions would allow law enforcement to still carry weapons.
In April, a number of protesters carrying guns took part in a protest at the Capitol against Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for closing down businesses due to COVID-19 concerns. |

The current demand for guns in America is so great that the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Checks System (NICS) is giving a higher number of delays and, in many cases, allowing the sale to be completed because time for the check expires.
A NICS check is designed to take only minutes, ideally being instant. However, there are cases where the FBI reviewers do not immediately find the records they need so they have an option to delay the check, giving reviewers three business days to complete it. If, after three days, they still have not found incriminating records on the would-be buyer, the sale is allowed to proceed.

In a recent opinion article, William McGurn, a member of The Wall Street Journal editorial board, tells us he just got a permit, in New Jersey, for a gun. He then asks what so many first-time buyers are asking this year: Do other Americans buying guns for the first time find it as grating as I do to learn that we need government permission to exercise a constitutional right? |

Jefferson Countys 2018 law regulating commercial shooting ranges is a valid exercise of the countys police power and does not violate state or federal constitutional rights to bear arms, according to a state Court of Appeals opinion. In November 2018, after the county adopted rules governing the permitted operation of shooting ranges in unincorporated areas, Sequim resident Joe DAmicos Fort Discovery Corp. and three other plaintiffs sought to invalidate the new rules by suing the county in Clallam County Superior Court. |

The annual Gun Rights Policy Conference moves to the world wide web this year, offering virtual attendance due to COVID-19. The gathering will still boast a stellar list of speakers but, unlike previous years, will not require participants to travel to attend. This marks the first time in 35 years the event hasn't been hosted in-person. Last year, the GRPC was held in Phoenix, Arizona with the largest attendance in conference history. Second Amendment Foundation founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb said the move to digital will hopefully open the door to an even larger audience in 2020.

Recent resident questions about use of force by gun owners on their own property and in public prompted police to explain more about the laws. A man with a CCW permit, for example, came to the Middletown police station recently to ask about his rights to self-defense if he was at political rallies with a firearm and protesters became heated, and a man raised some concern when he walked a child to a school bus stop with a rifle strapped to his back, according to Major Eric Crank.

We may not yet be in a full-blown zombie epidemic, but if you were to visit California or New York, you might think it was. There is even a gun writer physician down here in the Mississippi Delta who thinks it might be coming soon. Of course, he works in the emergency room of a local hospital, so theres no wonder he is a gun writer on the side. For purposes here, well define a zombie as one of those drug-crazed, blown-out-minded derelicts high on PCP, uppers, downers, coke (not the drink) or whatever, whom you can see virtually anywhere these days on the inner city streets, downtown Seattle, or outside the fancy restaurants in San Francisco. |
