In an article meant to argue that owning a gun makes ones home more dangerous VICE magazine stated: good guys with a gun dont really exist. They make this claim in contraction to academic work proving otherwise. For example, Florida State University criminologist Gary Klecks academic work on self-defense gun uses shows a minimum of 760,000 such uses each year, and notes that the number could be as high as 2.5 million. Klecks has never been countered with empirical evidence.

Kent State University says it will allow a rally in support of Second Amendment gun rights to be held on campus as long as no one brings a gun to the event. The northeast Ohio school last month told recent graduate Kaitlin Bennett to stop advertising an open-carry rally because she lacked permission and was no longer a student.

President Donald Trump likes to take credit for a booming economy. But its not booming for one of his core constituencies: the gun industry. After watching guns fly off the shelves during the Obama years, sales have gone flat since Trump's election in 2016.

As a teen, I eagerly looked forward each autumn to Jimmy Robinsons annual waterfowl forecast in the October issue of Sports Afield magazine. It was the barometer for how filled with fowl our fall would be. We didnt know and didnt care that it was based largely on the continents primary breeding grounds in the Prairie Pothole Region and thus had little application to us. We just knew that if Jimmy said so, then it was going to be a successful season.

Small game and archery deer season open today (Sept. 15). Hunters can expect a mixed bag this season. DNR Tower area wildlife manager Tom Rusch gave his annual outlook for the fall. He started with the biggest influence, the weather. Last winter we started out cold and snowy with deer season. We didnt have deep snow, but we had over 15 inches on the ground for a good chunk of winter, said Rusch.

Dont judge a book by its cover, even skinny, bespectacled 11-year-old Braden Michalak. The Canton youngster weighs 70 pounds soaking wet and stands just 5-foot-2.

But Braden might as well be 10 feet tall when he is steadily and confidently manning a .177 caliber air rifle inside Michigan State Universitys Olympic training and education facility for firearms shooters.

Each Saturday, Braden shoots for more than three hours with the MSU Junior Rifle Team at Demmer Center, which is a USA Shooting-certified training center for those with aspirations to compete on an Olympic team.

Just when you thought Trenton gun banners had run out of bad ideas, these attention starved politicians simply start recycling stuff thats already outlawed in New Jersey. On Monday, September 17st, 2018, the Assembly Judiciary Committee is meeting to consider A.3129. This bill would make it a crime to acquire parts for the purpose of manufacturing an unserialized firearm. The Senate passed the companion version of this bill (S.2465) with amendments earlier this spring.

J.D. Martinez's 2nd Amendment Stance Isn't Controversial; It's Patriotic

Someone recently dug up an old pro-Second Amendment Instagram post by Boston Red Sox star J.D. Martinez, in which the potential Triple Crown winner posted a picture of Adolf Hitler featuring the quote, To conquer a nation, First disarm its (sic) citizens. Martinez captioned the post, This is why I will always stay strapped! #thetruth. Needless to say, the discovery triggered a torrent of stories about the controversial nature of Martinezs 5-year-old post because, apparently, disagreeing with a Hitlerian sentiment is now a provocative position. As it turns out, Hitler never said the words in Martinezs pro-gun meme, although the dictator indisputably embraced a policy of disarming, in both rhetoric and action.

While the battle over gun rights is intensifying statewide in Washington, Seattle gun owners are being targeted for regulatory harassment with the citys new safe storage requirements, and the Edmonds City Council has predictably accepted free legal representation in its own gun control effort, according to grassroots activists who argue that none of the new requirements will prevent a single crime.

With a sweeping anti-gun-rights initiative vote looming in Washington, that states liberal Democrat governor may have just added more momentum to the grassroots campaign to defeat the gun control measure by deciding he would no longer sign certificates for the winners in a police marksmanship competition because the program involves the National Rifle Association.

As Hurricane Florence clobbers the Carolinas, millions of residents have evacuated, leaving thousands of homes and businesses empty, including an especially attractive target for looters: gun stores. The Carolinas are home to more than 3,300 federally licensed firearms dealers, but with law enforcement stretched thin during the storm and its aftermath, criminals can take advantage.

We all recall that moment when we graduated from our BB guns to something with a little more pop. For most, the .22 LR was their first experience. This was the case for me, and I can almost smell the gunpowder, hear that high-pitched crack, and picture my father standing over me proudly as I punched holes in paper or flipped pop cans in the air. Weve come a long ways since tube-fed .22 LRs with iron sites and shooting pop cans. I recently took my kids out to tinker with a couple of new Savage rimfires, and their excitement made me feel young again. And, I must admit, I was a little giddy pulling the trigger myself.

This article has three possible leads. First: Its 1991 again, apropos of the Democrats effort 27 years ago to scuttle the nomination of Associate Justice Clarence Thomas to the U.S. Supreme Court with suspiciously timed charges of Thomass supposed perverted sexual harassment of Anita Hill.

A new program to limit the sale of bullets in Wayne County is being proposed by a member of the Wayne County Commission. Were giving you a look at the plan before its released to the world - and getting reaction from both sides. Woodlawn Cemetery, it may seem like a macabre place to hold a press conference but Reggie Reg Davis is doing exactly that.

The busiest part of the year for Maine's bear hunt is entering its final days while the seasons for deer and moose draw closer. Most Maine bear hunting takes place during the season in which it's legal to use bait. The bait season ends on Sept. 22. It's still legal to hunt bears until Nov. 24, though the season slows down considerably.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A strong body makes the mind strong. As to the species of exercises, I advise the gun. While this gives moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprise, and independence to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks. Thomas Jefferson, Encyclopedia of T. Jefferson, 318, Foley, Ed., reissued 1967.
