Direct questions about firearm ownership when it has nothing to do with medical care is simply pushing a political agenda, which doesnt belong in exam rooms, Brodeur said. If physicians are worried about safety then I encourage them to give the safety talk to all patients. It is important to note that firearm safety talks are not prohibited at all.
The next step in the saga will also occur in Cookes court, as combatants ready for a federal court fight that will likely wind its way to the U.S. Supreme Court. In the meantime, physicians will retain the upper hand in the battle that has fittingly been dubbed Docs versus Glocks.

In Polite's case, he said he got into an argument with a girlfriend that escalated into pushing and shoving. Police came; an arrest was made. Again, standard practice.
He went to court May 1, 1998, represented himself and learned that if he pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor, he'd pull no jail time and leave with a $100 fine and $80 in court costs.
"I don't remember hearing anything about any federal gun law," he said. |

All together, the downtown Cleveland and four suburban locations collected 706 guns, easily surpassing Cleveland-only buybacks in 2007, 2008 and 2010. |

University officials are in the process of determining whether a new legal opinion by Virginia Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli would let students carry guns on campus.
JMU's current policy prohibits any faculty, students or visitors from carrying a weapon, concealed or otherwise, on campus.
"[We're] reviewing the attorney general's opinion and how it may or may not impact our current weapons policy," university spokesman Don Egle said. "Then, once that review has concluded, we will be able to determine the actions necessary, but that will happen after our review is complete." |

"'God, Guns and Guts made America free, and we will fight to keep all three,' is a popular slogan in Middle America," gun law expert John M. Snyder noted here today.
"Although the phraseology may seem trite to some," he added, "it actually encapsulates significant philosophical insight to which tens of millions of Americans ascribe. It's as true today as it ever was.

It states that if you are somewhere you are legally entitled to be, you dont have to attempt to retreat, or let a person who is threatening your life retreat, before using deadly force to protect yourself.
If Gov. Lynch is right, and unjustified killings increase after this law takes effect, then obviously this provision should be revisited.
But we share the Legislatures doubt that the law will unleash a rash of criminality in the state. |

"Anytime you have a wounded animal it can be dangerous," John Fraley, spokesman for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, told the AP. "But usually, grizzlies are considered more aggressive than black bears."
Fraley estimated the bears age at 6 to 8, based on its weight of 400 pounds. "Thats a good-sized grizzly bear," he said, adding that it was said the grizzly was one of about 45 living in that are of northwest Montana and northern Idaho.
Meanwhile, Idaho has updated its legislation to clarify that it is legal for people to harm grizzlies in the defense of themselves and others. |

Barber acknowledges those who don't have a gun may try something else. "But they are much more likely to survive an attempt by another method."
She also acknowledges reducing access to lethal means may not prevent a suicide, she said. "We don't have a 'one-size-fits-all' solution for suicide prevention."
Counselors at the Central Wyoming Counseling Center recognize that when they receive calls from people who say they are suicidal, said outgoing director Mike Huston.
They conduct "lethality assessments" to inquire about personal issues including guns, Huston said. "The availability of firearms is a big deal." |

Shortage of weapons for practice is making it difficult for the Kozhikode District Rifle Association to sustain the interest of youths in the shooting sport. The district had won the championship in the open sight category in the recently concluded 44th state shooting championship. At a time when 10 members of the association are preparing to participate in the Mavalankar shooting championship to be held in Ahmedabad from October 11 to 21, it does not have weapons required for the peep sight or aperture type category. |

Residents also commissioned a survey of 120 respondents, 80 percent called the club a liability. One wrote, residential areas are not the place for shooting ranges or any type of gun activity. There is plenty of land away from family areas where this can be done.
The clubs attorney questions the survey. You don't get to move next to a new neighbor and then force the neighbor to move and I think that what this is about. It's that simple. |

Anyway, the liberty-hating fascists over at the Brady Center (hi, guys!) have made it abundantly clear that this bill is part of their national anti-civil rights campaign, and they certainly want Governor Brown to sign this bill. Will he? Well, Browns a liberal Democrat so probably yes, as soon as he thinks up a good-enough reason to endorse making it illegal to carry an unloaded gun openly. Whether the US Supreme Court lets him get away with it is, of course, a completely different question |

Firearms are being returned by police in a majority of domestic violence cases where one of the parties has a gun licence.
Figures obtained from the NSW Police firearms registry under freedom of information laws show up to 2309 licences were suspended in domestic violence cases from 2008 to 2010 under sections 22 and 23 of the Firearms Act. The figures show only 512 people lost their gun licence over the same period under section 24 of the Firearms Act because they were subject to an apprehended violence order. |

Retired pilot Pete Rock still travels a lot, sometimes on the ground and sometimes in the air. "I have a small airplane and we fly all over the east and southeast in that," said Rock. Rock has a concealed weapons permit from Florida and carries a gun with him whenever he travels. He says that it keeps himself and his family safer. But because every state has different gun laws, legally traveling with a firearm can be a hassle when you cross state lines. |

Some bad ideas refuse to die. Include in that category an extreme proposal percolating in the House to strip states of their authority to decide who may carry a concealed loaded firearm. This gift to the gun lobby, the subject of a hearing last week by a House Judiciary subcommittee, is nearly identical to a provision the Senate defeated by a narrow margin two years ago. |
