A Metro Detroit man involved in a 2014 shooting is advocating for gun safety and protection, especially among children.

Marcus Weldon was leaving a Christmas party in December 2014 when he stopped by a gas station. Dressed up as Santa Clause, Weldon was helping a woman change her tire when someone approached them and tried to rob them.

Weldon said what began as a physical confrontation resulted in a gunfight that night. Ever since then, he has been advocating for gun safety and protection.

Weldon says he has been licensed to carry a weapon for over nine years and has been properly trained, even in firearms law.

I do frequent training, not only with self-defense, but also in safety," Weldon said.

The 12-gauge pump shotgun is touted as the ultimate home defender. Its far from a one-trick-pony and about as general-purpose of a firearm as you can buy. A shotgun can take the place of a rack of assorted rifles as long as youre shooting at shorter distances, and can be used for hunting, garden pest control, guarding the family campsite, and, of course, defending your home.

In his new book, "Break It Up: Secession, Division, and the Secret History of America's Imperfect Union," leftist journalist Richard Kreitner expresses doubt that the country can hold together, or should. As he notes, English colonists came here to separate themselves from their rulers. Our revolution amounted to the colonies' secession from the British Empire.

A little-noticed casualty of Democrats impeachment push against President Donald Trump last year was gun control, Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., says.

In an interview for my book Abuse of Power: Inside the Three-Year Campaign to Impeach Donald Trump, Massie noted that the president was ready to pull the trigger on a federal law allowing orders to disallow possession of a gun because of extreme risk, commonly known as a red flag law.

Ive told my colleagues, the one good thing to come out of impeachment is that it knocked gun control in the head, Massie said.

Hoosiers rightful Second Amendment rights are well protected in Indiana by Governor Eric Holcomb, said John Weber, the Indiana State Director for the NRA. Governor Holcomb proudly signed laws that support law-abiding gun owners, and therefore keep our communities and state safer. Recent surveys find that about 40% of adult Americans own a gun or live with someone who does. A majority of those gun owners cite protection as their primary reason for owning a gun, and most believe the gun or guns they own make their homes safer. But research has consistently shown that households with guns are actually less safe with markedly higher risks for accidental deaths, suicides and domestic homicides.

Each side of this dispute has a different account of the incident, as well as witnesses and evidence they interpret as supporting their claims. We are currently analyzing claims from one group that protesters may have physically restricted Mr. Schroerlucke from moving in a public space, prompted a specific reaction, as well as protesters account that Mr. Schroerlucke was restrained to prevent him from attacking others, WVCPD said in a Thursday press release.

Youre innocent until youre proven guilty. I think when all the footage comes out, theres going to be a lot more clarity because it was pure self-defense, said Sullivan.

One of the most prominent claims he makes is that the NRA is not the "well-oiled, data driven lobbying machine" it appears to be from the outside and that LaPierre often said their operation is "all smoke and mirrors."

Powell expounded on that point in an interview with Fox News on Friday.

He said that the tens of millions of gun owners in the United States are going to turn out in elections and hold accountable politicians who aim to curtail gun rights no matter whether the NRA is successful and spending money or not.

With just over seven weeks remaining until American voters elect a new president and Congress, the National Shooting Sports Foundation is out with its 2020 Congressional Report Card, and if Capitol Hill was a public school, almost every Democrat would flunk.

With but a few exceptionssuch as Senators Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Jon Tester (D-MT) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), Rep. Sanford Bishop (D-GA), Rep. Anthony Brindisi (D-NY), Rep. Jim Costa (D-CA) and a handful of othersevery Democrat received an F grade. Manchin gets a B+, Heinrich scored C+ and Tester gets a C from the NSSF.
