"Democrats in West Virginia know that many of their state's voters guard their gun rights jealously..."
"That's why Kerry stood on a stage here last week, proudly hoisting a shotgun and telling a throng of mine workers that he would like to go 'gobble huntin' ' with them as soon as possible."
"The scene boosted Kerry's image with at least one voter attending Kerry's Labor Day rally. 'It cleared one problem up for me, with the guns,' said Paul Cooper ... 'He can't be against our guns, or want to take mine, if he's got one of his own.' "
------- It's idiots like Paul Cooper that will be the end of the right to keep and bear arms in America. Take a look at Kerry's voting record, Paul, instead of believing publicity shots of Kerry's supposed love affair with the "assault" rifle he owns, but wants to forbid to the rest of us. |

"Why on earth would John Kerry make his inaccurate, indeed, nonsensical comments about the 'consequences' of the expiration of the 'assault weapons' ban and President Bushs decision to let it expire? Perhaps he has simply given up on trying to convince those who believe in our constitutional right to own firearms that he is one of them. Thats the opinion of Kimberley A. Strassel, writing in The Wall Street Journal."
"Strassel says that no one has worked harder than Kerry to neutralize the gun issue, which worked against Democrats in the last election. But no one seems to be buying his act--that he supports gun rights, identifies with hunters, and is not your typical liberal, who thinks (or, perhaps, feels is the better word) that gun ownership automatically makes someone an irrational, rednecked, and about-to-run-berserk and shoot-up the neighborhood post office. ..." |

"New legal research by gun-law expert Alan Korwin indicates that merely accepting a gift shotgun from a private party out of his home state would be a five-year federal felony for Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, the Democratic candidate for President [see United States Code, section 922(a)(9)]. Giving him the gun would also be a felony [922(a)(5)]."
"National news reports picture Kerry proudly holding the gift in Racine, West Virginia, during a Labor Day celebration. Bringing the gun back to his home state would be an additional five-year federal felony, under the massive and bewildering federal gun laws, as previously reported by Bloomfield Press."
"The shotgun, identified in published reports as a semiautomatic Browning, was actually a semiautomatic Remington model 11-87. News reports suggesting it was a gift from Remington would be an illegal donation from a corporation to a candidate, and the value of the shotgun would exceed campaign donation limits as well." |

"By insufficiently pushing to renew the ban, Kerry said, 'Bush chose to make the job of terrorists easier and . . . the job of America's police officers harder.' "
"If Kerry really believes this, it would betray an alarming ignorance of both terrorists and crime-fighting."
"In truth, Kerry was just being hypocritical (nothing new there). After all, the Democratic presidential wannabe can't seem to get enough camera time posing with a rifle."
"And if he really wanted to chide anyone for letting the ban expire, he could have targeted Democrats." ...
"Crime plunged in the '90s not because of the ban, but because law enforcers got tough with thugs. Meanwhile, criminals even 'terrorists' like the Washington, D.C., sniper got their hands on deadly weapons despite the ban." |

"I have seen more inaccurate stories about the 1994 'ban,' both before it was enacted and now that it has met its well-deserved demise, than any other such issue in recent memory. Most of the inaccuracies seem to stem from a general lack of understanding about the ban and firearms in general. Before the 1994 ban, the term 'semi-automatic assault weapon' had previously been used only as a slang term by gun control advocates to describe any weapon they simply didn't like the looks of. Such a definition only became an 'official class' of firearms after the ban was adopted in 1994."
"The notion that after the ban sunsets there will somehow be more of these firearms 'out there' is completely false. Following the passage of the ban these firearms continued to be purchased by the same law-abiding citizens who purchased them before the ban, except that they bought even more of them." |

KABA Note: Technically, democracy means that the government does what the majority wants - whether right or wrong.

Matthew Scully, the vegetarian author of the book, "DOMINION: The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy," shows that he capable of writing so many inaccuracies in one article that it would take pages and pages to properly rebut.
There are few humans who actually want animals to suffer. But his lumping of all hunters into one group that doesn't care about animal suffering shows that he knows as much about hunting and hunters as he does about football bats.
The typical vegetarian is deprived of many of the essential nutrients and amino acids that a brain needs to properly function. Thus, his disturbed view of hunting and hunters is easy to rationalize to his nutrient-deprived brain. |

"So there you are. Lifting the ban is no big deal. Not in Wayne's World anyway. As for those Nervous Nellie cops, I have this bit of advice. The next time you and your 17-round Glock 9 come up against a mutt with an AK-47 and a 30-round clip, just remind yourself that the difference is purely cosmetic."
"And don't forget to duck. If you have time."
------- Of course, if you talk to the majority of the rank-and-file cops, and not the elected or appointed chairborne police bureaucrats, you will find out most of them supported the sunset of this worthless law. But to Rossie, the guys who are out there risking their lives against armed criminals don't matter. It's the politically appointed or elected police chiefs who matter most. |

"The fact is that all semi-automatic firearms use the same technology that's been around since the 19th century, when the first such mechanisms were designed. The forces of expanding gases from a fired cartridge cycle the action and load the next bullet to be fired. Because of this action, 'semi-autos' also are called several names such as gas-operated, self-loaders, autoloaders or just plain automatics for short. The trigger has to be pulled each time a shot is fired."
"Thus, semi-automatic firearms are not the fully-automatic machine guns that the anti-gun crowd would have you believe, and they are incapable of indiscriminately spraying a non-stop hail of bullets into ranks of defenseless people, which the gun grabbers claim." |

"Ive found that in most cases, people who would like to see the so called 'assault weapons' ban renewed have taken their position because they have been fed propaganda from anti-gun organizations and the liberal media. This has led them to believe these arms are the weapons of choice for drug dealers, gang bangers, terrorists, the Tooth Fairy, and even Barney the dinosaur. The anti-gun movement agenda has managed to creep into the minds of the misinformed by various means including TV ads, rallies, organized marches and just plain obscuring the truth and dividing the entire issue, which in turn have spawned a steadfast political platform that freedom-hating politicians can use in the hopes of garnering additional votes." |

"It is not a 'need,' it's a freedom of choice. We live in a free society, so we all have to take the good with the bad. Gun violence is terrible, but it still happens. The violence rate is lower in places where it is easier to carry a gun. Assault weapons are in a class of their own, however."

"A free state with gun-wielding citizens to protect their lives and property by lethal force is not the object of a police state or a member of the Global Governance Village. Our founders thought it necessary to leave the defense of this nation, particularly on home soil, as part of the duty of the citizenry. Now it is solely the privilege and prerogative of the military and local police. No help wanted from citizens, get back indoors."
"Loyal leaders would call on the national guard to protect our southern border here in Arizona, the open gateway for illegal aliens of all nationalities to enter the United States with no visas, no papers, no permission, no real identity, and leave a trail of garbage, ruined grazing land, dead animals belonging to Arizona ranchers, and some dead people (Americans) on their route to establishing residence in the USA. Of course the media photos are always of pregnant women wanting babies born in America, another 'for the children' smokescreen for allowing the cultural dilution of the nation and heavy drains on its natural and financial resources. The American citizens (of various original ethnicities) who live along that border could stop illegal immigration, but if they try, the governor of Arizona threatens them! Those who protest against this travesty on justice are castigated as radicals, hostile militias, and heartless, trigger-happy wretches by the media here. National media ignores the plight of the border citizens."

"Microwave weapons that cause pain without lasting injury are to be issued to American troops in Iraq for the first time as concern mounts over the growing number of civilians killed in fighting." "The non-lethal weapons, which use high-powered electromagnetic beams, will be fitted to vehicles already in Iraq, which will allow the system to be introduced as early as next year."
"Using technology similar to that found in a conventional microwave oven, the beam rapidly heats water molecules in the skin to cause intolerable pain and a burning sensation. The invisible beam penetrates the skin to a depth of less than a millimetre. As soon as the target moves out of the beam's path, the pain disappears." |

------- "The nation's capital city will soon suffer a brazen insult at the hands of the House of Representatives as a legislative majority prepares to vote for the decontrol of guns in the city - that's right, a majority of lawmakers, sworn to 'insure domestic tranquillity' for the nation, would make D.C. stand for Dodge City. As far as election year pandering goes, the impending vote to legalize handguns and semiautomatic weapons on the streets - striking down the home-rule wishes of Washington's citizens - may answer the question of how low Congressional politicians will go in bowing to the gun lobby."
------- DC could only wish to have the violence rate of Dodge City. According to an article by Ryan McMaken of the Mises Institute, "As with Dodge City, the excitement in the Old West in general has been much overstated. All the big cattle towns of Kansas combined saw a total of 45 murders during the period of 1870-1885. Dodge City alone saw 15 people die violently from 18761885an average of 1.5 per year. Deadwood, South Dakota and Tombstone, Arizona (home of the O.K. Corral), during their worst years of violence saw four and five murders respectively. Vigilante violence appears to not have been much worse."
How many murders did DC have in 2003? 248. |

"Quoting from a book entitled 'Street Sense for Women,' Sneddon told a group at a recent self-defense training course, 'How Not to Become a Victim,' that one in 10 Americans will be the victim of crime - a broken window, a sliced tired - during his or her lifetime. One in five Americans, he said, will be a victim of violent crime - murder, rape, robbery or aggravated assault." ...
"Sneddon said that average, everyday citizens have to learn how to take care of themselves because there aren't enough police officers and, consequently, police have to be reactive instead of proactive." ...
"Sneddon and Uniontown police Capt. Ronald Kozak both said that everyone is capable of carrying pepper spray, and they encouraged those in attendance to purchase it."

"Below is a press release from the Second Amendment Foundation, a pro-gun lobby. Before you read it, here are some facts put out by the Chicago police department: According to the police, in 2003 Chicago had the fewest number of homicides since 1967, when 552 people were murdered in our city. The statistics for the year 2003 are the more impressive when one takes into account the 'particularly violent spring' the city had. And it was not only the murder rate that declined. The overall 'index crime' rate (which tracks nine major violent and property crimes), went down 4.4 percent from the previous year's numbers. Some specific figures: aggravated battery went down 18.3 percent; criminal sexual assault went down 10.5 percent; and violent crime went down 10.7 percent. Nonetheless, Chicago (with 599 murders total for the year) once again ended up as the nation's murder capital. New York, which has about three times the population of Chicago, had three fewer murders. And Los Angeles, the nation's second largest city, had less than 500 homicides. So, what is Chicago doing wrong?" |

"Ten years ago a tough crime bill was passed to protect America. They made sure that criminals couldn't get their hands on assault weapons. There were record drops in violent crime all over America, including gang violence and school-related murders. We saw assault weapon-related crimes drop 65 percent."
------- Here we go again. Same pabulum. Different newspaper.
For the record:
1 - An alleged 65 percent drop in "assault" weapon related crimes means absolutely nothing if your initial sample is inadequate. These weapons were used in less than 2 percent of crimes committed with firearms to begin with.
2 - This ban did NOT make sure that criminals didn't get their hands on these weapons. Columbine happened AFTER the ban was implemented.
3 - There has been absolutely no evidence that the drops in crime in the US had anything to do with the 1994 ban. |

"California 'has always had much stricter laws. But the problem is when you don't have a national law, it just makes it easier for people to bring those 19 weapons here,' police Chief William Bratton said."
------- Right. It's the fault of the states that have more respect for the Constitution of the United States and the right of the people to keep and bear arms than you do that you cannot control your criminal element. That's why everyone should be at the mercy of oppressive tyrants and armed criminals, so they can be just like you. |

FULL TEXT BELOW:
With the expiration of the "assault weapons ban," Second Amendment rights have been restored to 1994 levels. Second Amendment rights help protect our freedom from tyranny.
Don't give away your freedom because it has no sporting purpose. You may not want a military type weapon and think they are a danger to society. Many also think you don't need a SUV and that they are a danger to society. Does that make the case to ban them?
Having freedom means others will have freedom, too. Think before you vote to take freedom from others. You may be the one to lose a right you care about next. |

"AK-47s and Uzis remain banned under a 1989 federal law. However, collectors can obtain the weapons after going through a lengthy process to obtain a federal license."
"Connecticut has seen a drop in violent gun crimes over the past 10 years. Some advocates say the combined federal and state bans contributed to this decrease. Now, they worry if the lack of a federal law could allow people to bring the newly available weapons across the state line."

A security guard was shot inside the state Capitol on Monday afternoon by someone who then fled in a vehicle, authorities said.
The victim's condition was not immediately released.
The building was locked down, with employees ordered to stay in their offices.
The shooter entered the north entrance and shot the UNARMED guard at about 1:45 p.m., then fled, said Secretary of State's spokesman Randy Nehrt.
The Capitol has no metal detectors, and its officers are NOT ARMED.
-- "Trust us... we'll protect you"... yeah, right. Maybe you can speak to the BG using harsh tones. Scouling might help, too.
