"Since the story broke and unfolded, those with hopes and expectations that truth and justice would prevail have been answered with disappointment, and the cynical realization that the matter will continue to be dragged on to where a full accounting of what happened -- and who knew and ordered what -- will probably be relegated to history. Thats provided the victors are interested in writing it."

The Pennsylvania man accused of killing a state trooper and wounding another trooper in an ambush is a military enthusiast who reenacted battles and may have been imitating Rambo, a fellow war reenactor told ABC News today.
The suspect, Eric Frein, is the subject of a massive manhunt in the woods of Pennsylvania where he has often disappeared for days for self-taught survival training. He has been placed on the FBI's most wanted list and there are two rewards totaling $175,000 for information leading to his arrest.

A proposed ordinance in Montville, New Jersey could give police officers broad powers including entering private property if underage drinking is even suspected.
As CBS 2s Christine Sloan reported, the proposal has some people questioning just how far police should be allowed to go.
Residents value their privacy in the upscale community of Montville in Morris County. But the proposed ordinance could change all of that.
Police officers under the ordinance could search homes with probable cause, and without a warrant, if they suspect underage drinking. ...
The proposal is so controversial that when it was heard in a local committee room, a vote was postponed until members could hear from the police chief.

Atlantic Citys city council just unanimously voted to ban selling or owning realistic-looking toy guns.
The ordinance bans the sale, possession or use of any imitation firearms . . . which arent bright, fluorescent colors or transparent, according to an article published in the Press of Atlantic City.
Anyone caught with an illegal toy gun can face a $50 fine and 30 days in jail.
The council pushed for the law because cops told them that real-looking fake guns are frequently used in robbery attempts.

SUBMITTER'S COMMENT: Why bother? At the rate "A.C." is going down the toilet, soon there won't be anything there worth robbing and the A.C. P.D. will follow Camden's into oblivion.

"I am presently in the process of reviewing our offices position on the appropriate resolution of this matter. With these insipid and officious 18 words did Shaneen Allens prospects improve for the first time since October of 2013.
A quick recap: Last year, a single mother of two named Shaneen Allen drove from her home state of Pennsylvania into neighboring New Jersey with a concealed handgun in her purse. Unaware that her carry-permit was not automatically accepted in all 50 states, Allen made the mistake of informing a cop who had pulled her over for a minor driving infraction that she had a gun in the back seat, and, having so confessed, she was arrested.

New Anti-Gun Strategies

To mark the tenth anniversary of the expiration of the federal ban on so-called assault weapons, the anti-gun lobbies made a surprising announcement: They are not attempting to push for a new ban. This is a smart decision, because there is more than one way to shrink the American gun culture. The assault weapon prohibition campaign of the last quarter-century was the most successful effort in American history to ban large numbers of guns. But, ultimately, it proved more harmful than helpful to the politicians who supported it and the groups that promoted it.

He cited language in the amendment that says "nothing in this section shall be construed to prevent the general assembly from enacting general laws which limit the rights of convicted violent felons." The motion emphasizes the inclusion of the word "violent."

Thomas' defense is latching on to that language to argue the legislature cannot pass laws to restrict the rights of non-violent felons.

Thomas' felony convictions were for driving while intoxicated and driving while revoked. He says those crimes cannot be considered violent.

Leonard Embody is no stranger to police.

He's been arrested or detained numerous times for walking around town with guns. His charges were all eventually dismissed, which may explain why he wasn't arrested on Wednesday as he paraded up and down the sidewalk in front of Hillsboro High School.

Witnesses say Embody was pacing Hillsboro Road, dressed much like a soldier, and it had a lot of people nervous. So nervous that 911 dispatchers had their hands full.

"He had a rifle across his back, and a Go Pro attached to his chest. I just thought that was kind of peculiar," one caller said.

Peculiar? Yes. Unheard of? Not so much.

A district court judge ruled Thursday that Highland Parks ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines does not violate constitutional rights under the Second Amendment, according to the city.

In his ruling, Judge John Darrah concluded that the city had a public interest in banning military-style firearms, and that the ban did not significantly burden the constitutional right to armed self-defense.

Highland Park has established a close fit between the ordinance and its stated objective of providing for the protection and safety of its inhabitants, Darrah wrote.

On Friday, the 19th of September 2014, anti-self-defense group North Carolinians Against Gun Violence will hosted a Memorial Service for Nigel Scarlett, who was killed by gunfire on December 11th of 2011.

They will undoubtedly once again call for bans on firearms, firearms registration disguised as Universal Background Checks, and further restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms.

Conspicuously absent will be any mention of the fact that Nigel Scarlett was a convicted felon. Previously convicted of Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, plus a wide assortment of misdemeanors including illegally carrying a concealed firearm, Mr. Scarlett is sadly typical of homicide victims.

It appears a man who shot and killed a woman at a Memphis home Thursday might have done so in self-defense.

Police found the man, who has not been identified, standing in the yard at 3416 Wythe holding a gun and wounded.

Inside, a woman who had been shot several times was found dead.

Police say a man and his girlfriend were fighting.

At some point the girlfriends sister, 31-year-old Melania Cook, came to the house.

Police say Cook pulled a gun; the man grabbed his gun, and both fired.

The man was taken to the Regional Medical Center to be treated for his wounds.

Spokesman-Review editorialist Shawn Vestal published an opinion piece today, entitled, Study: Criminals easily skirt law buying guns online.

Like most firearms-related pieces in the progressive media, it was editorially dishonest. Vestals study came from Michael Bloombergs Everytown, which has been nailed time and again for fabrication and exaggeration by even left-aligned sources such as CNN and Politifact.

In a stunning editorial yesterday, the Washington Times used events earlier this week half the world away in Australia to bluntly illustrate why, instead of eroding the Second Amendment, this nation should be strengthening and nurturing the right to keep and bear arms that the amendment affirms and protects.

So holds Fotoudis v. City & County of Honolulu (D. Haw. Sept. 17, 2014). The court held that Hawaiis laws banning gun possession by all aliens both violated the Equal Protection Clause by discriminating against legal permanent resident aliens, something the federal government generally may do but states generally may not and violated the Second Amendment. Prof. Josh Blackman has more details.

Billboards are dotting several major New Jersey roadways in support of a Philadelphia mother who is facing weapons charges after she voluntarily told police she had a legally owned gun in her vehicle during a minor traffic stop.

The New Jersey Second Amendment Society, the Second Amendment Foundation and Gun Talk Radio raised approximately $4,000 to purchase four massive signs located on Route 322 and Route 40 in Atlantic County after some of the members from the gun rights advocacy organization learned of Shaneen Allen's story.

So far, it hasnt been much of a fight. The anti-gun Washington Alliance For Gun Responsibility, supported by Seattle millionaires like Bill Gates and Paul Allen, has already raised more than $7 million in support of I 594.

The pro-gun side has raised only $1.3 million. The NRA which just dropped $1.4 million in the Arkansas Senate race has put only $191,000 into the fight.

Not surprisingly, polls show the anti-gunners pulling ahead, with seventy percent of voters favoring the background checks bill. According to gun rights activist Barron Barnett, many gun rights supporters in Washington arent even aware of what is going on. He recently wrote:

Next week, according to WJLA and the Associated Press, the Washington, D.C. city council will vote on a proposal that will create what will essentially be a mirage; a concealed carry law that will allow the police chief to deny pretty much on a whim any District resident who applies for a carry permit.

It will likely be challenged in court as a violation of the spirit, if not the letter, of a court ruling earlier this summer that struck down the citys ban on carrying handguns outside of the home. Under the proposal, according to the Washington Times, permits might only be granted to people who can prove a genuine need. Everyone else will be out of luck, the newspaper indicated.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
I now think the only way to control handgun use is to prohibit the guns. And the only way to do that is to change the Constitution. M. Gartner, then President of NBC News, USA Today, January 16, 1992, pg. A9
