It was the first day back in session for Pennsylvania House Representatives, and one activist group wasted no time calling on the Legislature to take action. Moms Demand Action gathered in the Capitol Rotunda to show their support for the proposed Extreme Risk Protection Order Bill, sponsored by Representative Todd Stephens (R- Montgomery).
By advancing that Bill, we can save lives in Pennsylvania. Theyve studied it in Indiana, theyve studied it in Connecticut, and its saving lives there. Its time that we start saving lives in Pennsylvania, Rep. Stephens explains.
House Bill 1075 would implement Extreme Risk Protection Orders in Pennsylvania. |

Evil walks among us, hidden by a smile, a handshake, a pat on the back, an offer of help. Always looking for the weak, the vulnerable, the gullible, the one in the wrong place at the wrong time. Prey.
Bad things happen to good people when and where it happens, we have no say as to the time or place. All we can do is to be prepared for the possibility of having to deal with that evil.
Prepared, not paranoid. Prepared.
There is no law that can protect us from such evil as that which occurred in El Paso, Dayton and so many other places. Particularly, when that law prohibits the law-abiding from acting in their own self-defense, it makes them victims without recourse.

Standing on the sidewalk outside his school's K-12 campus, superintendent Steve Guerra sweeps his hand across endless acres of farms, woods and marsh that surround his school and the 810 students inside.
Any direction Guerra stands north, south, east or west law enforcement is at least 20 miles away from Addison Community Schools, which sits remotely along the borders of Lenawee, Jackson and Hillsdale counties.
Guerra, who spent the summer reinforcing nearly 130 school windows with security film and adding 60 new security cameras, estimates police response time to his main school building from any three county sheriff's departments is between 13 to 38 minutes.

The Legislature's top two Republicans say Democratic Gov. Evers wants to take people's guns away.
"It's widely known that we believe this legislation poses threats to due process and the 2nd amendment rights of law-abiding citizens," reads a statement from Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald and Assembly Speaker Robin Vos.
The bills have virtually no chance of clearing the Republican-controlled Legislature. The GOP has long insisted that restricting access to guns won't stop mass shootings and would infringe on Second Amendment rights. They say the answer is focusing on mental health. |

According to a newly released report by the Giffords Law Center, New Hampshire's death rate by violent acts involving guns is 30 percent below the national average.
Advocates on both sides of the issue agree that the states death rate 10.3 gun-related deaths per 100,000 people -- is still too high, but both differ greatly on what's at its root.
On the heels of the New Hampshire Senate upholding the governor's veto of three gun-related bills, advocates in favor of regulation said their concerns about safety begin with how easy it is to get a gun in the Granite State. |

A Wednesday night shooting near Lillington appears to have started from a fight between a father and son, according to the Harnett County Sheriffs Office.
Deputies were called to the home at 795 Brown Road off of Cool Springs Road around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday after a domestic dispute escalated into a reported shooting.
Harnett County Maj. Aaron Meredith told The Daily Record an argument over repair work to a vehicle resulted in 65-year-old Robin Brown shooting his 35-year-old son Robin Brown in the leg.
Its still under investigation, but we believe it was done in self defense, Meredith said. Because it appears to be self defense, no charges have been filed at this time. |

Anti-gun activists and politicians often ask questions like, "who needs these 'weapons of war'?" As if demonstrable "need" is somehow a prerequisite to exercising a constitutional right, and as if the latter term actually means something concrete. The concept of a "good guy with a gun" is also mocked and diminished after mass shootings in which armed citizens did not intervene, anecdotal evidence that ignores the many instances in which law-abiding gun owners do, in fact, defend themselves and others. |

Brittany Wynn was born and raised in Houston County. She felt safe up until she went off to Gordon State College and started seeing more violence through her siblings, who still go to school in Houston County.
"When this particular incident happened, it really just kind of put more fire under me to get it going and get it started quickly after seeing how it affected my sister," says Wynn.
She's talking about a homicide in Perry back in July where a 16-year-old boy was shot by two girls and later died in the hospital.
Police say the shooting may have been self-defense, but Wynn says the boy was a classmate of her sister's. |

Cortney has covered the reaction from most Democrats in response to former Congressman, failed Senate contender, and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Robert Francis O'Rourke's plan for massive gun confiscation. It seems they all want him to shut up and never again say "hell yes" when asked if he wants to take everybody's AR-15s. He has not exactly explained how he expects this to happen, just that it is a moral imperative to willingly give our weapons of self-defense over to a government that simultaneously has a history of white supremacy (according to Beto). |

We should think this way because policy makers do, even if their personal choices conflict with public policy decisions.
Their homes are nestled behind walls, gates, and fences with alarmed security present. People with firearms are typically nearby to protect their every move. Moreover, their appeasement of radical voices does not carry over into their personal lives. No one is camped on their manicured lawns shooting heroin or taking a dump in their planters.
Finally, when a person of notoriety is victimized there is usually a severe penalty to pay, because true justice is always demanded from the self-righteous. |
