"Less than a day after she was sentenced to probation for stealing more than $200,000 to support a gambling habit, a former Ramsey County sheriff's deputy was back at the casino."
"Prosecutors said Tuesday that after her sentencing this month, Lori Elizabeth Kratzke wasted little time in feeding her addiction, embarking on a 14-hour 'gambling spree' at Treasure Island Resort & Casino near Red Wing, Minn."
"The transgression moved Ramsey County District Judge Elena Ostby, who on Sept. 5 placed Kratzke on probation for 20 years, to have the woman immediately taken into custody to serve 30 days in jail." ... |

"My wife and I are gun owners (self-defense purposes only), and we also have concealed-carry permits. In Arizona, an individual without any felony convictions or a domestic-violence history can legally own and openly carry a firearm. If you register and take a concealed-weapons-permit class, then pass the background investigation, Arizona will issue you a concealed-weapon permit. ..." ... |

A Glen Burnie man was arrested yesterday on charges that he fatally shot an acquaintance, nearly a year after Anne Arundel County police first questioned him in the killing. Todd Alan Poorman, 27, was indicted Friday by an Anne Arundel County grand jury in the Nov. 4, 2005, death of Michael Leo Rousseaux, 28, of Severna Park, Anne Arundel County prosecutors said.
"This is the first step in the justice department," said Phil Rousseaux Jr., the victim's brother. He said any suggestion that Poorman fatally shot his brother in self-defense was "ridiculous."
Since Rousseaux's death, Poorman has been charged with drug possession, traffic violations and other offenses in Annapolis and Baltimore, court records show.

"The bulk of this story is basically a re-printing of a post reply I made to a thread at TheFiringLine.com(a.k.a. TFL), along with a couple little changes and additional material and commentary. The title of the TFL thread is 'Why the HKP7 is Superior to the Glock', and it was posted by 'Sundance'. For the record, I have to say I disagree with Sundance's position. The HK P7 and Glock 19 were created for different purposes. The P7's raison d'etre is as a police weapon. Specifically, it was created for the German police. It was thus designed for combat in an urban environment. The Glock 19 (G19), being derived from the larger Glock 17, shares that weapon's intrinsic design purpose, which is as a sidearm for war. ..." ... |

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Missouri mother is angry that her first-grader was suspended from school over a plastic toy gun.
"I asked her, 'You're going to suspend my son for 10 days for this? He cannot harm a soul with this,'" said Danielle Womack, whose son, Tawann Caskey, was suspended from Milton Moore Elementary School in Kansas City.
The incident will stay on Tawann's permanent school record. But Womack said her son does not understand why he's not in school.
"We regret that this happened. My feeling is that by not giving any exceptions, this young man will not bring a toy gun to school again," Budesheim said.
Submitters Note: No, he will probably bring a real gun the next time. |

Republican Congressman Mark Kirk today received the endorsement of the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence, the nation's leading gun violence prevention organization. Kirk has a record of standing up to the special interest money of the gun lobby, including a vote against the gun industry's number one legislative priority. In 2005, by voting against a bill to give a legal shield to negligent gun dealers, Congressman Kirk clearly sided with the public's interest and against those who profit by putting guns into the hands of criminals. Kirk also recently voted in favor of child-safety locks for handguns, and to permit the District of Columbia to maintain its gun laws. |

"When you think of all the anti-gun laws that are currently on the books, can we honestly say that these laws have provided a benefit to society?"
"For example, by banning guns on school grounds, teachers and principals are not able to defend students from any type of attack. The gun bans are ignored by criminals leaving everyone on campus defenseless. On the other hand, teachers in Israel are routinely armed and Israel has not had an attack of any kind since it armed its teachers." ... |

... "The Arkansas Democrat goes on, 'Under Arkansas Code Annotated 5-2-607, deadly force can be used in self-defense if a person reasonably believes that an attacker is about to commit a felony 'involving force or violence ' or if the attacker is 'using or about to use unlawful deadly physical force.' The same law also states that deadly force cannot be used in self-defense in situations where an individual can retreat 'with complete safety.' Determining whether Mitchell was right to shoot, and if he could have instead retreated, will take time to determine, Jegley said. 'Is the truck running? Is the truck blocked? There are a number of factors that coincide in the analysis,' Jegley said. ... Hastings said police remind those applying for a concealed-weapon permit that criminal or civil liabilities could result after shots are fired.' Emphasis added." ... |
