The real community need is for gun courses on the existing laws about guns, such as the federal law requiring private sellers to go to a gun dealer to have a background check performed on any nonresident buyer, and gun safety courses about accident prevention and crime prevention. Education is our most important tool with regards to gun safety and ownership, not draconian economic measures of punishment on law-abiding citizens.

This son of a Methodist preacher was only 15 years old when he first had a price placed on his head. Before he went to prison, upwards of 40 men had fallen to his guns, including one he shot through a hotel wall for snoring. Like many on the outlaw trail in the percussion era, he usually carried more than one revolver, as reloading a cap-and-ball handgun under fire was not a quick or easily completed task.

Todays modern knives are marked by one-handed deploymentthat is, you can open the knife with one hand. Those that require two hands to open, while sometimes beautiful and good, tend to be dated (which is something you may actually like). Auto-opening knives colloquially known as switchblades are readily available. But due to legal restrictions and increased complexity, theres really not much point in pursuing them.
There are about a dozen ways to get a knife open with one hand, but here are a few of my favorite, and most common, deployment methods.

Appeals court judges had tough questions Tuesday for attorneys defending a District of Columbia law that makes it difficult for gun owners to get concealed carry permits. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit heard arguments Tuesday in two cases involving the law, which requires people who want to carry a gun in public to show a "good reason to fear injury" or another "proper reason" to carry the weapon. Reasons might include a personal threat, or a job that requires a person to carry or protect cash or valuables. Fewer than 100 people have been granted a concealed carry permit under the law, and lower court judges have disagreed on whether it is likely constitutional. |

The mainstream press is once again trying to spin away from positive coverage about armed citizens and the fallacy of so-called gun-free zones in its reports about the St. Cloud, Minnesota mall shooting and the hero shooter, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today. There have been very few references to the fact that Jason Falconer owns and operates a private business in which he teaches firearms and self-defense skills to armed private citizens, noted CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. He is a firearms instructor and competitive shooter, and his skill with firearms certainly paid off for the citizens of St. Cloud last Saturday.

Recently, national headlines frequently report about campus violence and safety concerns. So its not terribly surprising to find that companies and organizations pioneering safety-geared technology have been on the rise. Companies and organizations such as these have not only become more prevalent in the market but also in the University News inbox. Unfortunately, safety on college campuses across the United States has become less than guaranteed. According to the latest statistics from the U.S. Department of Education, in 2014 there were 40,870 criminal offenses reported on college campuses nationwide.

As more information emerges in the investigation of the weekend mall attack in Minnesota, one fact is emerging that the gun prohibition lobby will feverishly not acknowledge: Good guys with guns make a difference. Much is being made by the mainstream press of the fact that the good guy in this case, Jason Falconer, is an off-duty police officer. But hes also a private businessman, and reports say he is a part-time officer in a different jurisdiction. Essentially, at the time and place he fatally shot alleged mall slasher Dahir A. Adan, Falconer was an armed private citizen who owns and operates a business called Tactical Advantage Firearms Training in Waite, a community located just west of St. Cloud.

Responding to an ad featuring Jason Kander assembling an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle blindfolded, a new commercial from incumbent U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt retorts: "When it comes to the U.S. Senate, Missouri voters know what's important." The commercial is also the Blunt campaign's latest reminding Missouri voters of his challenger's support for Hillary Clinton. Kander, a war veteran serving as Missouri Secretary of State, used his unusual ad to argue that a candidate can be pro-Second Amendment while still supporting background checks and certain restrictions. The commercial has received national attention.

A new Harvard-Northeastern study showing Americans increasingly buy guns for self-defense rather than sport has persuaded one of the studys authors to conclude that Americans buy guns because of fear. The findings of the study were published by the UK Guardian, which quoted Harvard researcher Deb Azrael suggesting Americans buy guns because of increasing fearfulness. She suggested that suicide and other potential dangers of guns might be diminished if we could somehow address that fear. |

On Friday, Inflatable Front Yard Halloween Pumpkin Donald Trump finally admitted that the President of the United States was born in the United States. It was national news, because everything Trump says is national news. The Birther conspiracy is/was among Trump's biggest lies, and it was the catalyst for his batshit political ascension. But another well-known Trump lie is that Hillary Clinton "wants to take your guns." As in, upon taking office, she will literally instruct law enforcement officials to come into your house and violate your Constitutional rights. That entire premise is a lie. |

Too often when we think of protecting ourselves and our family we only focus on training with guns to deal with a criminal attack. And, while this is certainly important, it is only part of the real picture. If you look at statistics, you are far more likely to have to deal with serious injury in the home or the workplace. You are far more likely to drive up on a serious vehicle accident than you are a gunfight. Yet, too many of us have no training in dealing with serious trauma. Worse yet, well-meaning folks mighy do exactly the wrong thing while trying to help an injured person. |

California, to its credit, has some of the toughest gun control laws in the country. And they got a bit tougher this summer after Gov. Jerry Brown signed six bills which, among other things, required instant background checks for people seeking to buy ammunition, banned most people from owning high-capacity ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 cartridges and barred bullet buttons that make it easier to reload semi-automatic rifles. Now, with Proposition 63, voters have the opportunity to impose additional restrictions. Despite a few niggling concerns, we encourage a yes vote on Proposition 63 to send a loud and clear message to the pro-gun lobby that California voters want more, not fewer, limits on access to firearms. |

Hillary Clinton has said Australias 1996 gun banand subsequent confiscation and destruction of over 650,000 guns from pump shotguns to rimfire .22 rifles from lawful people like youis an idea worth considering on the national level.
Australians beg to differ.
Today, 20 years after Australias gun ban, gun crime is skyrocketing in Melbourne, Australias second-largest city. And now politicians are talking about passing new gun-control laws to further disarm law-abiding Australians.
