Responsible gun owners defended themselves, but you didn't hear it in the news. Instructor Tracy Thronburg talks about three new examples.

First story- You're a 69 year old woman. Your house was broken into earlier that day. You hear the intruders come back at 11 at night.

Second story- Youre walking in your backyard with your son when an armed stranger runs into your yard. The intruder shouts at you and raises his gun. You are carrying concealed.

Third story- A couple are standing in front of their house when they are attacked by three teens.

Guns are deployed in domestic situations by both men and women but in most of these cases, men deploy the guns for harm, sometimes even for mass murder as in this case, while women deploy the guns in self-defense. Further, when women do defend themselves with a gun, more often then not, they are charged and even tried and convicted for homicide.

After gaining traction in several states last legislative session, permitless carry is now picking up steam in Wisconsin.

Earlier this week, a Senate committee voted along party lines to pass SB 169, which removes the licensing requirement for those who want to carry a concealed firearm for self-defense. The National Rifle Association is strongly supporting the measure.

The bill was introduced earlier this year by state Sen. David Craig and state Rep. Mary Felzkowski, and boasts 39 co-sponsors.

Concealed weapons could be carried in Wisconsin without a permit under a right-to-carry bill headed to the state Senate for a vote as soon as next month.

The Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary and Public Safety Committee voted 3-2 along party lines Tuesday to pass the measure. Democrats objected, saying it didnt make sense to allow for the carrying of deadly weapons without any training or licensing requirements.

This bill supports the people who want to weaken firearms laws, and I think we should strengthen them, said Democratic Sen. Fred Risser, of Madison. We have a problem in this country with too much liberalization of firearms laws and this just adds to it.

Michael Bloombergs gun control advocacy group plans to spend more than $1 million on the upcoming Virginia gubernatorial race, despite its failure to flip the state senate in 2015 on the back of a similar spending push.

The Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund, a New York-based gun control advocacy organization, announced Thursday plans to contribute $700,000 to Democratic candidate and current Lieutenant Gov. Ralph Northam and another $300,000 into Democratic Attorney General Mark Herrings re-election bid, The Washington Free Beacon reports.

Ohio Republican lawmakers are drawing a line in the sand when it comes to gun owner rights.

Nearly 40 GOP lawmakers are signed on as sponsors of a stand your ground bill that would remove the duty to retreat from a threat.

Current law allows individuals to act in self-defense if someone attacks them in their home or vehicle, but this GOP proposal would take self-defense a step further, reports The Cincinnati Enquirer.

A federal appeals court panel has unanimously upheld the Seattle Police Departments policy on the use of force by officers.

The department adopted the policy under its 2012 reform agreement with the U.S. Justice Department. The policy dictates that when necessary, officers shall only use objectively reasonable force, proportional to the threat or urgency of the situation. It also requires them to use de-escalation techniques when its safe to do so.

A group of about 125 officers sued to challenge the policy, saying it would unreasonably restrict their Second Amendment rights to use their service weapons for self-defense.

Should those we entrust to save our lives be denied the right to protect their own?

Some lawmakers in Ohio dont think so. Last week, they advanced a bill regarding whether the state should forbid first responders from being armed for a full floor debate .

House Bill 79 applies exclusively to tactical medics, and would allow them to be armed after extensive training and approval from law enforcement. Certain agencies in Kentucky and Ohio have already allowed staff to carry with no known incidents.

An Austin-area bakery has announced that it will be shutting down its Facebook account after a recent incident turned its Yelp and Facebook pages into a full-blown gun rights debate.

About a year and a half ago, the Baguette et Chocolat in Bee Cave, Texas, made the decision to ban open and concealed carry in its shop. But one customer, Robert Farago, forgot to leave his gun in his car during a recent visit and entered the shop with a handgun visible under his T-shirt. The owners then dialed 311, which dispatched two police officers to remove Farago.

The ruling from the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the use of force reforms put in place by federal mandates under the Obama administration that required police to use only objectively reasonable force, proportional to the threat or urgency of the situation, the Associated Press reports. The unanimous ruling strikes down a lawsuit filed by a group of more than 120 Seattle officers in 2014 who claimed that the strict reforms infringe on an officers right to self defense and the Second Amendment.

Beginning Jan. 1, Oregon courts will be able to grant petitions to temporarily prohibit a person from having a firearm and other deadly weapons for up to a year. That is, if law enforcement or household members can prove the person poses a danger to self or others.

While some believe Senate Bill 719 infringes on the rights of individuals, others are confident the bill will help combat gun deaths especially suicide.

A Wisconsin state lawmaker has proposed a bill that would let people ban themselves from owning handguns as a suicide prevention measure.

The proposal, filed as LRB-3529 by Democrat Rep. Melissa Sargent, would allow people who may be at risk of suicide to ban themselves from being able to buy handguns in Wisconsin.

Individuals who choose to take part in the Firearm Self-Exclusion Program would have the choice of excluding themselves from handgun purchases for one, five or 20 years, with the first year being irrevocable.

Most concealed-carry permit holders understand the potential pitfalls of traveling with a firearm, given the outrageous patchwork of state laws involved in even a short interstate trip. And while we havent posted much about reciprocity of late, important national concealed-carry reciprocity legislation is still in play and needs your help now to gain passage.

According to a recent update from NRA-ILA, U.S. Rep. Rob Goodlatte, R-Va., who is chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, has signed on as a co-sponsor for the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017. H.R. 38 now has 212 co-sponsors, and according to NRA-ILA, its prospects in the House are looking better each week.
