"I'm an American Airlines captain. How utterly absurd that so few can kill thousands by taking over airliners with box-cutters."

"The airport security procedures mandated since Sept. 11 wouldn't have prevented it, and won't deter it from happening again."

Lengthy but excellent article that gives background on Afghanistan and the Taliban's rise to power.

Contained in this article is the Taliban's "model" for citizen disarmament and how many Afghans initially welcomed their rule and gave up their arms because of the Taliban's promise of "peace" and "security." Today, we are all too painfully aware of the results of lawless law enforcers.

A coalition including the American Civil Liberties Union and People for the American Way on the left and Gun Owners of America and the Rutherford Institute on the right joined in a statement asking Congress "to consider proposals calmly and deliberately with a determination not to erode the civil liberties and freedom that are at the core of the American way of life."

Send your Rep and Senators a copy of Freedom from War.
Tell them to read Stage III (p.18-19).

Tell them you emphatically disagree with the proposal to create a National Homeland Security Agency, another step toward totalitarian world order envisioned in our nations 40-year-old general disarmament program, outlined in State Department Publication 7277, "Freedom from War".

Every U.S. attorney district has been directed to establish an Anti-Terrorism Task Force by U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft.

The task force will act as a conduit of information about suspected terrorists between federal and local agencies; serve as a coordinating body for the implementing the operational plan for the prevention of terrorism; and serve as a standing organizational structure for a coordinated response to a terrorist incident occurring in that district.

Congress feels little urgency to grant President Bush new anti-terrorism police powers, a contrast to its speedy approval of money for relief efforts, the military, higher security and ailing airlines.

Attorney General John Ashcroft had asked for congressional action by this weekend. Instead he was called to testify Monday and Tuesday before the House and Senate judiciary committees on the need for the measures.

From all appearances, and as a result of recent circumstances, I could be considered a threat to our national security. There is only one piece missing from this equation: criminal intent.

Without criminal intent, none of the above is threatening. While it is clearly impossible to eliminate criminal intent from the world, and while we must react to recent events, we should not be frightened. The good guys still outnumber the bad guys by a large margin.

More than 800 pairs of scissors, 79 knives and a dagger were taken from passengers at Honolulu Airport's security checkpoints. Nail files, can openers and box cutters -- like the ones that were used during last week's hijackings -- were also taken away.

Prior to last week's attacks, passengers were allowed to carry blades as long as four inches onto aircraft. But security experts say that those days are gone and will likely never return.

Starting Friday, you can not enter the short-term parking lot unless you allow police officers to search your car. They're looking for anything suspicious. The search takes less than a minute, and police don't search under seats or in bags, which raises some questions about effectiveness.

The searches allow the airport to comply with tougher FAA security measures. The new regulations don't permit parking within 300 feet of the terminal without a police inspection.

At the moment, the principal beneficiaries of the right to bear arms are American Muslims, who have come under attack by those who somehow hold them responsible for last week's horrific events.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the people to keep and bear...arms shall not be infringed. A well regulated militia, composed of the body of the people, trained to arms, is the best and most natural defense of a free country... James Madison, I Annals of Congress 434, June 8, 1789.
