The Missoula City Council last night received a proposed ordinance that will likely put the western Montana council in the crosshairs of the Montana Shooting Sports Association (MSSA) because it allegedly wont square with state statute, according to KECI News, the local NBC affiliate.
While challenging state law on gun regulation may seem stylish and progressive in Seattle, Washington, it just might not be greeted with zeal anywhere outside the Missoula city limits. At issue is a desire by members of the council to require background checks on all firearms transactions that occur inside the city, ostensibly closing the so-called gun show loophole. |

Though Wal-Mart has a policy against roughing up shoplifters, it cannot fire workers for relying on their rights to self-defense, the Utah Supreme Court ruled.
A federal judge had sought guidance from the state court before ruling on a wrongful-termination action brought by five individuals whom Wal-Mart fired after their involvement in physical confrontations with shoplifting customers.
Wal-Mart's policy specifies that an employee must "disengage from the confrontation" if a shoplifting suspect becomes violent. |

I am pro-choice. I prefer to make it my choice whether or not my life ends on the day someone else decides it should. I will resist government removing my choice because of the urging of self-righteous people who wish to soothe their delusions by imposing their will.
I read the article about the outcry because of the attorney general's opinion that licensed handgun-carry permit holders cannot be banned from public festivals. This does not introduce a new peril into public gatherings as some politicians allege. There have always been handguns at public festivals. The carriers are simply undocumented. |

The Florida Legislature has been stockpiling a number of gun bills that would dramatically increase the presence of firearm visibility and broaden the definition of where guns are allowed. These bills will be decided upon during the upcoming legislative session in January 2016.
One such bill would enable citizens who already possess a concealed weapons permit to open carry in public. The bill is being championed by the Republican father-son team of State Rep. Matt Gaetz, who filed the bill, and State Sen. Don Gaetz, who is sponsoring it. |

Joel Wright, 41, was shot once in the head Tuesday night at a Winchester home that was occupied by his ex-girlfriend and another man, according to St. Louis County police. Wright had threatened the couple earlier that evening, police said.
Wright pounded on the front door, which was opened by the other man, authorities said. That man, who was armed, told police he urged Wright to leave, but Wright forced his way inside and, as he did so, reached toward his back. The man then shot Wright, believing he was reaching for a weapon, the shooter told investigators. |

There are many trade-offs when developing a Personal Defense Weapon (PDW). It needs to be light and compact, while chambered in a reasonable defensive cartridge. Firepower should be plentiful and easily replenished, and accuracy shouldnt suffer as a result of shorter barrels or reduced sight radius. PDWs are often chambered in 9 mm or 5.56 NATO, although more exotic rounds like the 5.728 mm and 4.630 mm are found in some of the original models of the species. |

Danny Burt is caught in the bureaucratic morass known as New Jersey Gun laws. In 2013, someone filed a temporary restraining order against him, which, according to New Jersey law, meant the state had to temporarily confiscate the 21 guns he owned. Among his collection was an M1 Carbine, the kind that hundreds of thousands of American GIs carried across the mud of Europe and dragged through the sands of the Pacific as they fought the Axis powers during World War II. Burts was a family heirloom, given to him legally in 2006 by his grandfather, who had carried the rifle through the war. |

Nearly half of Americans believe the federal government has grown too big and too powerful and see it as a threat to their rights, according to a recent Gallop poll.
The poll results found 49 percent of Americans believe the feds pose an immediate threat to the rights and freedoms of ordinary citizens. Although the number of Americans with this view has not changed much in the last five years in Gallop surveys, it represents a tremendous increase from 2003, when just a third of Americans polled by Gallop felt this way.
Gallop writer Frank Newport interprets the results as a strong sign of partisan sentiments. |

On Friday, September 18, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals issued its opinion in Heller v. District of Columbia (Heller III), striking down four onerous registration requirements and upholding several others.
The Heller III case is the continuation of the landmark Supreme Court decision confirming that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms and string down D.C.s total handgun ban and its requirement that long guns be locked or disabled at all times. As a result of the ruling in the original Heller case, D.C. was forced to overhaul its firearm laws. |

Supporters insist that allowing people to legally carry concealed handguns reduces crime, but that has not been the result in at least four states that have tried it, including Texas, according to a newly published academic study led by a Texas A&M researcher.
The study published in the Journal of Criminology looked at the connection between crime rates and concealed handgun permits for each county in Michigan, Pennsylvania, Florida and Texas.

The state Legislature on Thursday failed once again to override a veto by Governor Christie, this one involving the purchase of a firearm by someone with a record of mental illness, but the Senate president vowed that the measure will not die.
I am committing to you right now it is coming back until it gets passed, said Stephen Sweeney, D-Gloucester, who fell two votes short of the required two-thirds majority to override the veto. |
