GOA Alerts -- To underscore the danger of this abuse of power, and the danger it poses to gun owners, consider a Denver Federal appeals court decision a few weeks after the August conviction of Abby Newman.
The court, by a 5-4 decision, furthered the erosion of the Fourth Amendment by allowing police to ask stopped motorists (like Newman) whether they have a loaded gun even if officers don't suspect weapons are in the vehicle. |

"in the next few days or weeks, we're gonna hear The Powers That Be in DC try to push a federally-mandated smart-card national ID ... "For your own good and the good of our country." Anyone who resists this could risk, in the present climate of high emotions, being branded as "unpatriotic" "and "unsupportive of national security."
So rather than merely resist, here's my idea on how to deal with this impending Big Brother national ID nastiness." --Tina Terry |

"I harbor no ill will toward those agents who interviewed me. I realize that they were just following orders. Like other Americans who are Muslims or of Arabic ethnicity, I earnestly support the FBI's attempts to vigorously investigate this heinous terrorist act and bring those responsible to justice.
What I do not appreciate is being singled out for questioning merely because of my faith, my ethnicity or my legitimate political activism." --Riad Z. Abdelkarim |

As US military planners prepare the final details of a retaliatory strike inside Afghanistan, they seem keenly aware of what's known in the intelligence community as "blow-back."
Defined as US-made weapons and military expertise that are turned against US troops, "blow-back" is a distinct possibility - perhaps an inevitability - in Afghanistan, according to US intelligence sources, military analysts and weapons specialists. |

"I believe that Americans have completely misunderstood the events of 9-11. The attack was not a direct assault on the United States primarily for the sake of making us fearful. It was part of a recruiting campaign. The response of the street people in Palestine was what he had in mind. He gave alienated Palestinians an event to celebrate." --Gary North |

"What about our right to privacy? Our right to keep and bear arms? Our right to freedom of the press? Our right to worship as we choose? How long will it be until these are all construed to be illegal acts of terrorism? ... One Gun is all that it would have taken to stop the box-cutter wielding terrorists." --Danny Keeling |

The people who are targeting innocent Americans because they speak Arabic or vaguely resemble Osama bin Laden also are guilty of terror. Our difficulty now is in separating real from imagined threats.
"The willy-nilly sale of guns to those who suffer from prejudice, ignorance and fear can pose as much a threat as bin Laden, especially when the paranoid gun buyer views his government and fellow Americans as the enemy." --Tallahassee bureau chief John Wark can be reached at 850.222.8382 |

"The United States will remain vulnerable to terrorist attacks unless law enforcement agencies are given a wide range of new counterterrorism tools, including improved wiretap capabilities and easier access to voice mail and Internet users personal information," Attorney General John Ashcroft told lawmakers Monday.
But momentum for passage of anti-terrorist proposals has slowed in Congress, and some members are questioning the constitutionality of some of the tools Bush seeks. |

A new type of gun could cause authorities problems, however, because it doesn't look like a gun it looks like a cellular telephone. |

A report on the Congressional hearings regarding arming airline pilots.
Some of the "objections" raised:
"I don't think the pilots want to get into a gunfight at 31,000 feet."
"the risk [of] a stray bullet going through a passenger window. That could lead to rapid decompression."
"if pilots are fighting hijackers, they might be hard-pressed to return to their control chairs."
"What if a handgun accidentally discharges in the cockpit?"
"What if the hijackers themselves have guns and a shootout ensues, with passengers caught in the middle?" |

Wherever standing armies are kept up, and the right of the people to keep and bear arms is, under any colour or pretext whatsoever, prohibited, liberty, if not already annihilated, is on the brink of destruction. St. George Tucker, in his edition of 'Blackstone's Commentaries,' 1:300 (1803). |
