Standing outside a hotel ball room near LAX on Saturday where 400 gun rights advocates from around the country gathered for the 20th annual Gun Rights Policy Conference, Wilder tried to explain the stigma that he and his fellow devotees of the 2nd Amendment were up against.

U.S. District Court Judge Jay Zainey ordered the New Orleans Police and St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office to stop taking weapons from law-abiding people and return any they already took in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. *.*.* Imagine that. The New Orleans police having to abide by the law and a judge who interprets it instead of trying to make a new one.

A recent poll conducted by the National Association of Chiefs of Police indicated that almost 64 percent of police commanders and sheriffs favor a law allowing private citizens to carry concealed firearms for protection.
At the same time, there are outspoken opponents of gun ownership, such as Senators Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Diane Feinstein (D-CA), who are carrying concealed weapons, according to WABC Radio's Mark Levin.
Not only does Schumer carry a handgun, the New York City Police Department also provides armed escorts for the good senator.
And then we have Senator Diane Feinstein on the Left Coast who possesses something more rare than a conservative Republican in San Francisco, an unrestricted concealed weapons permit. |

TALLAHASSEE - Enter Florida at your own risk. That's the message supporters of gun control are sending in an ad campaign designed to warn visitors about Florida's new law allowing victims to shoot first in self-defense without fear of prosecution.
The law, passed by the Florida Legislature in the spring and signed by Gov. Jeb Bush, takes effect Oct. 1. That's the day the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence will start its newspaper ad campaign in London, Chicago, Boston and Detroit and hand out fliers to arriving passengers at Miami International Airport.

Kathy Hill won't hunt bears because she doesn't eat them. Lara Madison loves shooting pistols for the joy of watching things blow up. Gary Davis brings extra handguns and ammunition to Sunday morning fellowship sessions. Others compare their passion to church and baseball. There are thousands of sportsmen and sportswomen like them who form the membership of local rod and gun clubs. These gun owners say the uninitiated misunderstand their character-building passion for firearms and the role their clubs play as athletic and social institutions. They say they are responsible people who enjoy a good time in good company. They are not recluses. Club officials say their membership forms the fabric of their communities. |

On Friday, Schweitzer took aim at firearm owners, announcing a statewide gun-safety initiative and championing proper handling and storage of firearms.
Schweitzer is working in conjunction with local law enforcement communities and the National Shooting Sports Foundation to support a national initiative called Project ChildSafe.
"Protecting our children is a family value," Schweitzer said. "In Montana, having guns is a family value, too. I think we can do both." Funded through grants from the U.S. Department of Justice, Project ChildSafe is conducting a series of community safety events across Montana.

Although the New Hampshire Attorney Generals Office ruled on Friday that a Sept. 15 shooting at a Rochester home was justified, the law governing self defense doesn't provide a license to kill, legal experts say. Investigators determined Geoff Hamann of 80 Pine St. in Rochester was justified in using deadly force when he shot and killed Brian Gaedtke, 21, of Fremont after he had broken into Hamann's home. |

Witnesses told the Orlando Sentinel that the incident started when an undercover officer tried to break up a tailgate party. When he encountered resistance, they said, he fired three shots into the air. An Orlando Police officer saw the man with the gun and shot him several times, the newspaper said.

Since its inception, over a million people have participated in the program. As this number continues to increase, hunting-related accidents have declined steadily. This downward trend has made hunting one of the safest outdoor sports.
