Three San Antonio police officers are accused of having several women sign contracts agreeing to do anything as part of an investigation, including have sex with them.

Officers Aaron Alford, Alejandro Chapa and Emmanuel Galindo were charged Thursday with official oppression. Chapa and Galindo were also charged with aggravated sexual assault and compelling prostitution.

Police say an investigation began when a woman told Live Oak police in June that she had been sexually assaulted by an officer.

Usually, a person claiming self-defense must go before a judge to prove the claim is justified. Now, a new bill by Rep. Dennis Baxley (R-Ocala) shifts that burden onto the prosecutors. He also helped write Stand Your Ground 10 years ago.

One of my concerns too is that there were people pleading to lesser charges, simply because they cant take the risk with a 20-year possibility of jail time, said Baxley. So, many people that were exercising self-defense wind up making pleadings, which they shouldnt be put in the corner.

His bill comes on the heels of a recent ruling by the Florida Supreme Court that states shifting the burden would require prosecutors to prove their case twice.

Every legislative session Texas lawmakers fight to make access to guns less restrictive. In the past lawmakers would use state crime statistics to push gun legislation at the capitol.

But a new study published in the Journal of Criminology by researchers at the Texas A&M Health Science Center School of Public Health may be poking holes in claims that increasing the number of conceal handgun permits leads to less crime.

The studys leading researcher Dr. Charles Phillips said past studies on the issue were limited to just a before and after snapshot on crime rates from a statewide perspective.

It doesnt matter if state law allows people to openly carry guns on the University of Michigans campus, the university argued in a recent court filing, because only U-Ms board can set U-M policy, the Detroit Free Press reported Tuesday. Thats because, in U-Ms view, the Michigan Constitution exempts U-M from having to pay attention to a state law banning local governmental units from making weapons laws.

Seven years after the U.S. Supreme Court struck down the District of Columbias ban on handguns, D.C. has lost another gun case before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbiaone that involves the very same plaintiff, Dick Heller.

In the latest case, Heller v. District of Columbia, a three-judge panel has thrown out several gun registration requirements that were clearly intended to discourage gun ownership and make it more difficult to own a gun in the nations capital.

Did you ever see the 1978 Vietnam movie The Deer Hunter where, in a prisoner-of-war camp, Viet Cong captors forced American soldiers to play Russian Roulette?

In a very real way, thats exactly what President Barack Obama is forcing our servicemen and servicewomen to do every time they set foot on the gun-free zone of a military facility. Hes forcing them to surrender their safetyand too often, their livesto a suicidal policy based on anti-gun ideology.

t is important to recognize that there are Pro-2A law enforcement agencies out there, and they need our support whenever possible.

Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard is a very upfront proponent of Second Amendment rights and fully embraces law-abiding citizens who choose to exercise their right to carry. We wanted to take a moment and make you aware of a fundraiser being put on by the Dallas County Sheriffs Office at the Des Moines Rifle and Revolver Club in Van Meter (Sunday, September 27th).

But Im a guys guy, because I love men that hit stuff, and at least know about guns. Im not a gun guy, I dont shoot animals or people. When we were kids, my dad put us through a YMCA class. We know how to load em, clean em, put em away, store em, and never point them at people. Thats just the rule: You dont get mad and go get a gun. We just learned about them. And then put them away, and none of us ever used them again. The truth of it is, AK47s look dangerous, so they want those outlawed, but a Winchester 3030 is actually, in my mind, far more dangerous.

In July, the mobile car-hailing service Uber fired an Austin, Texas, driver after he discharged a handgun during an altercation with a passenger. It wasnt the first time an Uber driver has engaged in gunplay; the company announced in June that it would ban both drivers and fares from carrying guns, but many drivers either claim ignorance of the policy or choose to carry for self-protection anyway. Meanwhile, Airbnb, the online lodging empire that rose from humble couch-surfing beginnings, has yet to offer an explicit policy on hosts or guests possessing weapons. As more Americans come together to exchange goods and services in the so-called sharing economy, where do guns, and people carrying guns, fit into the brave new landscape?

We are in a cultural conflict where freedom is under attack on many fronts. I chose to talk about self-defense. Self-defense is more than a right we reluctantly tolerate. It is more than a private choice. In this culture war, people who love liberty should advocate for a better culture rather than watch as they lose their rights one by one. Self-defense is a virtue we want to actively support across our culture.

New Hampshire District Judge Paul Barbadoro issued an opinion Thursday on the companys administrative case against Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives and granted the agencys motion for summary judgement.

Pay special attention to the Second Amendment. Kayak ownership is not protected under our constitution, our guns are.

There is a very important reason why no law or regulation should ever be attempted to limit our right to bear arms and never cause our personal defense to be compromised.

A recent letter about U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham was rude, but more importantly, it was incorrect.

Graham voted FOR the federal background check system for new gun purchases.

He also led the effort to have people deemed mentally incompetent by a court to be added to the background check system so they cannot purchase a gun, a real-life problem that occurred in Charleston a couple of years ago.

Even on an issue as sacred as the right to keep and bear arms, Boehner is a sell-out. Gun Owners of America (GOA) is rightly calling for Boehners ouster as House Speaker due to his overt lack of support for the Second Amendment.

In a published statement, GOA said: As long as John Boehner is Speaker, your gun rights are in danger. After all, remember in spring of 2013, when the pro-gun community was engulfed in the battle of the century over the Bloomberg/Obama gun control agenda? John Boehner could have nipped gun control in the bud by pronouncing that gun control would be dead on arrival in the House. Instead, he said that the House will consider any gun control proposals sent over by the Senate.

At some point, we should finally realize that the only solution to gun violence is the stoppage of the sales of guns and ammunition. Only the military and police should be permitted their use for our protection.

We can accomplish this with an amendment to our Constitution and the abolishment of the National Rifle Association.

Four Democrats proposed a measure in the U.S. House to establish a code of conduct for firearms dealers and shame so-called bad apples.

The measure, proposed by U.S. Reps. Ruben Gallego (Ariz.), Eleanor Norton Holmes (D.C.) Mike Quigley and Robin Kelly (Ill.) earlier this week, would require the Justice Department to establish a voluntary code of conduct for federal firearms licensees that would earn the dealer a Good Neighbor certification.

The sponsors, all with a long history of supporting anti-gun legislation, contend their bill is needed to help combat gun violence.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government that is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself. JAMES MADISON
