"I'm OK with it. My family might not be because they didn't see the film," Byers Sr. said. "I've seen the film. You know, when I seen him do that... it was like, 'Why?'"

Vice President Kamala Harris backed a total ban on handguns in San Francisco, California, during her time as the citys district attorney, according to a story published in the San Jose Mercury News in 2005.

Harris backed San Francisco Proposition H, which would have enacted a total ban on possessing a handgun in San Francisco with few exceptions, as well as the sale, possession, manufacturing and distribution of all firearms and ammunition in the city, according to San Jose Mercury News. Her past support for the measure stands in contrast to her recent insistence during her 2024 presidential campaign that she is not taking anyones guns away if elected.

A significant point of legal debate is whether the weapons covered by the Illinois law have historical precedent dating back to the Constitutions founding, a standard set by the Supreme Court in the 2022 case New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen.

In closing arguments, plaintiffs attorney Andrew Lothson argued that the law is unconstitutional because all items included are useful for self-defense, while Illinois Attorney Generals office representative Kathryn Hunt Muse contended that the banned assault-style weapons share functional similarities with military rifles like the M4 and M16.

Attorneys have 30 days to submit written briefs and proposed findings to Judge Steven McGlynn...

While the federal lawsuit is still pending, it depends on how Maryland law defines reasonable grounds in the states ERPO law. The U.S. District Court has asked the Maryland Supreme Court to interpret the term before the federal case continues. The court is being asked to clarify two legal questions: What legal standard does reasonable grounds imply in Marylands red flag law, and can an ERPO be issued based on a standard less than probable cause?

This case is about how so-called red flag laws can be weaponized against private citizens, said SAF founder Alan M. Gottlieb. Were asking the Maryland high court to define the meaning of reasonable grounds in the state ERPO statute to help make our case in federal court.

During a White House event Thursday, Biden is expected to sign an executive order designed to address the trauma inflicted on children by active shooter drills in schools as well as tackle the threat of machine gun conversion devices, which are small devices that can be made with a 3D printer and turn a handgun into a fully automatic weapon. The actions are timed to this weeks one-year anniversary of Bidens creation of the first-ever office of gun violence prevention which he launched, in part, to identify additional ways to tackle gun violence from the executive branch without Congress.

In a unanimous opinion, the Illinois Supreme Court says Illinois State Police can revoke a persons Firearm Owners Identification card once theyve been charged with a felony.

Capitol News Illinois reports the case involves a father and son who were charged with felony reckless discharge of a firearm for shooting their guns in the air over Fourth of July weekend in 2016.

Their FOID cards were revoked, but when the charges were downgraded to misdemeanors and they pleaded guilty, their FOID cards were re-issued. The pair then sued the state, claiming they were denied their Second Amendment rights to self-defense during the time they were facing felony charges.

Too many federal courts engage in a quiet or open mutiny against SCOTUS authority. SCOTUS must correct one such rebellion by a panel of the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals by granting certiorari in Oakland Tactical Supply v. Howell Township, a Michigan case.

In Oakland Tactical, the company was denied permission by Howell Township, using zoning regulations, to create and operate a 1,000-yard shooting range. Other circuits have examined this question and have determined that the Second Amendment protects ancillary items and activities related to the core and reserved constitutional right, including the right to practice and train with firearms.

On September 25th, U.S. Senator Jim Risch (R-Idaho) introduced the Modern Firearms Safety Act, a bill aimed at prohibiting states from enforcing handgun rosters. These rosters, which include lists of pre-approved handguns, often require manufacturers to incorporate features such as microstamping, loaded chamber indicators, and magazine disconnect mechanisms. According to Senator Risch, these requirements hinder the ability of law-abiding citizens to purchase firearms of their choice and pose unnecessary burdens on manufacturers.

California already has some of the strictest gun laws in the U.S., even without the legislative package of 24 new bills signed into law. Gun-rights supporters opposed some of the new measures.
