An extensive report by Aero-News Network about the provisions of
section 361 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2001. Yet another attempt to slip particularly onerous legislation in through an appropriations bill. This over-reaching legislation pushed by the OAS (!?!) and the DoD gives DoD authority to track down and "demilitarize" _any_ items which once belonged to the US government. There are links to the bill text at the end of the article.

AUGUSTA The head of Maines powerful sporting lobby charged Friday that the states failing grade on handgun control dished out by a Washington, D.C., activist group was totally ridiculous.

Weve got more firearms per person than any state other than Alaska and we have one of the lowest crime rates, said George Smith of the Sportsmans Alliance of Maine. That obviously hasnt been cranked into their formula. So more laws arent necessary here or even pertinent to the situation.

"With alberta ranking dead last in gun licensing compliance in canada, tens of thousands of firearms owners in the province could soon run the risk of becoming criminals."

"With just four months remaining until all firearms owners must acquire a licence, officials with the federal Canadian Firearms Centre say only 16% of Albertans have acquired or applied for the document. That compares to a national average of 40%, said David Austin of the government agency."

"On Wednesday, the teen loaded and cocked the gun, then put it to the temple of a neighborhood 8-year-old and threatened to pull the trigger, police said."

"Cedaredge Mayor Bill Miller thought he was doing his town a favor when he recommended a deer hunt within the town to rid it of an overabundance of the creatures."

"He was responding to a dozen Cedaredge residents who had called the town hall recently complaining that deer were eating their roses, colliding with their cars, chasing their dogs, ambling around in herds in the middle of streets and stripping gravestones of their floral memorials."

Criminals who are stupid enough to use a cigarette lighter shaped like a gun in a city where people can carry are not smart enough to live through prison. If the justice system will just put these fools behind bars, they're done.

Glad the officer succeeded - safely.

"HALIFAX (CP) - While Canada's police chiefs have maintained their commitment to Ottawa's firearms registry, rank-and-file officers are split over the controversial issue. Members of the Canadian Police Association approved a resolution Friday that sets aside debate on whether to support the gun control law until next March.

Saskatoon Police Const. Grant Obst, president of the group, said it's clear they want to give the federal government more time to "get its act together."

"A Toronto teen was taught a tough lesson yesterday -- handguns plus alcohol can equal a "senseless" death and a 32-month prison term for manslaughter."

"I hope you've learned your lesson, sir," said Justice David Watt after sentencing Gurpreet Singh, 19, for killing close pal Kamaljit Dhandwar, 18.

"Dhandwar was shot in the face and died on Dec. 28, 1998."

This is happening in Bangkok, but it directly relates to the dangers of licensing and registration:

"Police will issue a regulation to revoke the gun licences of people SUSPECTED of crimes involving use of firearms, even though they have not been convicted of an offence."

"These suspects have not been prosecuted because police do not have evidence to substantiate charges against them."

Thank God this story didn't end in tragedy. "Anti-gun nuts" need to understand that registration would not have prevented this guy from getting a gun.

This is a book for sale for the people (who you know) that think Al's great. Just the fact that you could write a book of his lies should be a wake up call for them.

"This is the story of the life and lies of Al Gore, as written by David N. Bossie and Floyd G. Brown"
