MI: Suspected robber fatally shot at Wash Pointe Car Wash in Roseville

Police are investigating an attempted robbery that resulted in a fatal shooting that killed one of the accused robbers, Roseville police said.

The shooting happened at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wash Pointe Car Wash. Police said a man was at the car wash and was approached by two unknown subjects who revealed a handgun and attempted to rob the car wash patron.

The car wash patron was armed and police said he �exchanged gunfire with one of the alleged robbers.� During the shooting, one of the robbers was hot and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

In North Carolina, according to a Statutory Castle Doctrine, a person has the right to use deadly force to defend their home, car or workplace from an imminent threat.

�The occupant of a home has broad rights to use defensive force if someone is unlawfully and forcibly coming on to your property,� said District Attorney Greg Newman.

As of 2020, 23 states have a form of a �castle doctrine,� which says people may use reasonable force, even deadly force, if harmed and to protect him or her and their property.

But what is the rule in Nebraska?

We spoke with Holdrege Police Chief Dennis Damoude and he said Nebraska�s self-defense law is �Duty to Retreat.�

An altercation in Easton ended with a woman being shot, but now the injured woman is behind bars.

The Northampton County district attorney announced Wednesday that the shooting just over two weeks ago was a case of self-defense.

Tiasha Ennis, 30, is facing charges of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment in the incident on Monday, Aug. 17 in the 900 block of Ferry Street.

Like it or leave it, Americans love their guns.

�The first time I remember firing any type of firearm was with friends of my family,� said Jeff Bregman. �My parents were there we went out to the desert and I shot a little .22 rifle and a .38 revolver.�

Bregman�s passion for firearms has since grown now owning American Gun Works, a gun store in Glendale.

A man and woman have been charged with murder after an armed carjacking victim shot and killed their 18-year-old accomplice in self defense at a South County car wash over the weekend.

Police officers found Brandon Whitfield, 18, of the 1700 block of Rosado in Spanish Lake, 63138, dying of at least one gunshot wound when they responded to the scene at the Classic Car Wash in the 4800 block of Lemay Ferry Road around 1:17 a.m. Sunday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

ABC13 took a look at when Virginians can protect themselves and their property by force under the law.

Bedford County�s Commonwealth�s Attorney, Wes Nance, said The Code of Virginia does not explicitly say when someone can, and can't, use lethal force to defend themselves. Instead, he said Virginia relies heavily on case law to help make those determinations.

The stabbing reported on Tuesday in the 100 block of East Hillside Road was in self-defense, according to Laredo police.

Officers responded to the stabbing at about 9:50 p.m. First officers on the scene met with two men and a woman by the residence.

A man who had a laceration to the left side of his body was identified as Miguel Angel Salazar, 29. Police said he also had marijuana on him. He was taken to Laredo Medical Center in stable condition.

Earlier this week, prosecutors announced that the 28-year-old man who pulled a gun on a Royal Palm Beach Walmart shopper and his daughter would no longer face criminal charges, saying he was acting in self defense.

Prosecutors cited Florida�s �Stand Your Ground" law as part of the reasoning for not bringing charges. The controversial law allows a person to use deadly force almost anywhere if he or she feels their life is threatened or they are at risk of bodily harm.

Rittenhouse told a videographer with The Daily Caller that he went to Kenosha with a semi-automatic rifle to protect businesses from protesters.

�People are getting injured and our job is to protect this business. And my job also is to protect people. If someone is hurt, I�m running into harm�s way,� he said in the video.

Pierce tweeted a video of the call where the 17-year-old could be heard via speakerphone expressing gratitude to his support system. �I just wanna thank every single one of you from the bottom of my heart for the underlying support,� he said. �I just want to thank all of you for the mail I�ve been receiving. Nearly �80% of people in the city support Kyle Rittenhouse� as he prepares to stand trial for charges stemming from a violent riot, Your Content has learned.

The chair of the Kenosha Republican Party said that 80 percent of people support Kyle Rittenhouse � the 17-year-old who shot dead two rioters last weekend with an AR-15 rifle as they tried snatching it from him � and that the other 20 percent are people who �can�t stand the president.�

In a state with a rich history of guns and second amendment freedoms, situations on when and where you can legally defend yourself aren�t always as bulletproof as they may seem.

The castle doctrine or stand your ground laws are in force in Oklahoma and allow a person to defend themselves against threats to personal safety.

A person's right to defend their property against intruders using deadly force is something that is applied differently throughout the country -- especially when it comes to what a person can legally do if they feel in danger, and when they are allowed to act.

Dave Workman, editor-in-chief of Gunmag.com, said he is concerned about new gun owners who may not have a solid grasp on what is legal and what is not with their new weapon.

�They could end up being charged with a crime if they decide to take the law into their own hands,� he said.

Under the state's legal defense law commonly known as the Castle Doctrine, gun owners are allowed to shoot someone in self defense if there is an immediate threat to their lives, regardless of if they are at home, in a business or out on the street.

A home break-in is a situation nobody wants to find themselves in. But what can you do legally do in Alabama, if you act in self defense?

�If someone�s trying to break into your house, then you have a right to defend yourself from that circumstance,� defense attorney Tommy Spina said.

Spina explains you can use deadly or physical force when you're placed in fear of immediate physical harm, injury or death.

Facebook said it was removing content supportive of Rittenhouse and said that posts calling him a "patriot" qualified for removal.

On Twitter, which has removed posts praising Rittenhouse for violating its policy against "glorifying violence," hashtags like in support of Rittenhouse remained widespread.

Twitter said it had stopped certain terms from trending and appearing in search suggestions, but declined to disclose a full list, citing the risk of users circumventing those actions.

The lawyer for Kenosha killer Kyle Rittenhouse fumed that he was �going to take Jack Dorsey�s ass down� after Twitter blocked him as he tried to raise money for his client.

L. Lin Wood accused the Twitter CEO of censorship and said he would sue the social media giant for locking down his account for nine hours Tuesday.
