"... Rayl finally did come to the sheriff's department more than a month after the shooting to answer questions. As it turns out, Rayl told investigators that he was protecting his life. Sheriff Stradley said, 'It was a situation where individual came on his land in a threatening manner, came toward him in a threatening manner and the individual shot twice to get him to stay back.' The sheriff says Ricky Stamper continued to charge toward Rayl, so Rayl shot him in the face." ... |

"Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been a forceful advocate on a number of issues, to the surprise of many New Yorkers and the dismay of some. But there is no major issue on which he has been stronger than gun control. The mayor has testified before Congress several times advocating sensible regulation on the way firearms are bought and sold. He's even had the city sue shady gun dealers in other states whose wares came into New York City via the nation's vast gun-trafficking network."
"This week, he was in Harrisburg, Pa., to urge the Pennsylvania State Legislature to inject at least some sanity into that state's gun laws. ..." ... |

"I was even more dismayed to hear the typical liberal media response blaming lax gun control laws and the NRA for making weapons too easy to get."

What is wrong with this picture? Kill someone with a gun, you go to prison. Kill them with your car, it's a 2-year circuit court misdemeanor.
A 58-year old-woman runs into the back of a 50-year-old man on a motorcycle and the man dies. The woman gets 5 years probation, plus must pay $8,600 restitution.
A 20-year-old man runs a stop sign and kills a 20-year-old woman. He gets 90 days in jail, 5 years probation and must pay $12,950 restitution.
Does Judge Judith A. Fullerton think it is OK to kill someone with a car, but not with a gun? Dead is dead.

"Beatty had been arrested in Toledo for violating a park rule against concealed carry ... Beatty argued that the park ban was in conflict with State of Ohio law permitting concealed carry in Parks, since he had received a concealed handgun license. The City argued that it had the authority under Home Rule to ban all weapons in its Parks."

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
"Secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but secrecy ... censorship. When any government, or any church, for that matter, undertakes to say to it's subjects, 'This you may not read, this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know,' the end result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been hoodwinked; contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not anything. You cannot conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill him." --Robert A. Heinlein, "Revolt in 2100" (Pg. 68-69, Baen Books paperback edition, 1999 printing) |
