Traditionally, Ill be in the midst of an elk season one month from now, and Ive got all of my hunting gear together, the truck is gassed up, my rifle is clean, got gas for the camp stove, which means Ive got plenty of time to fill out a ballot and vote.

Around the rest of the country, many of you may be just getting into whitetail deer seasons, or waterfowl and upland bird hunting is heating up. So, since this is a reminder, theres no excuse for not voting. If youre going to be in the field, nows the time to get an absentee ballot, fill it out, and stick it in the mail or a drop box.

The 18-year-old school shooter in Uvalde killed 19 kids and 2 teachers using assault rifles and ammunition he purchased legally.

Despite that fact, Texas Republican leaders claimed that stricter gun laws wouldnt help. They also insisted that providing more armed guards (or arming teachers) would. There is ample evidence from research studies, prior school shootings, and states and countries with stricter gun laws that both of those claims are false.

Attorney General Paxton joined a multistate letter led by Tennessee and Montana that is being sent to the CEOs of American Express, Mastercard, and Visa due to their problematic targeting of 2nd Amendment rights. Backed by gun-control advocates and the International Organization for Standardization, these companies new policy takes direct aim at lawful gun owners by creating a merchant category code to track purchases at firearms stores.

The structuring of the code and its vague nature suggest that the policy has nothing to do with promoting public safety, but is intended to collect data on millions of Americans who shop at gun stores and to track firearms merchants themselves.

A lawyer challenging provisions of New York's new gun law argued that the state restricts people from carrying weapons in too many places, telling a federal judge Thursday the rules affect not only people on busy Manhattan streets but an upstate pastor on his church's property.

The argument was made during a hearing before Judge Glenn Suddaby in Syracuse as he decides whether to temporarily order a hold on provisions of the law while the federal challenge to its constitutionality continues.

A handful of residents at a Lower Alsace Township meeting Thursday night repeated the concerns theyve voiced since the start of summer: Gunshots from a private range on Wolters Lane are disrupting nearby homeowners lives and threatening their safety.

In response to those concerns, supervisors voted 3-0 to advertise a new, stronger firearms ordinance.

This is the most aggressive form of what youve asked for, Supervisor Todd Weikel told residents.

The new rules would tighten the language around when guns can be shot and only permit shooting in the township from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern called for tighter regulations on Internet speech, suggesting that disinformation should be treated like gun control, The Daily Fetched reported Saturday, citing her address to the United Nations General Assembly. Ardern called for disinformation to be treated like bullets, bombs, or nuclear weapons, arguing that a lie online or from a podium does not immediately kill people like the weapons of old but could be more dangerous in the long run.

We came together as communities to minimize these threats, Ardern declared. We created international rules, norms, and expectations. We never saw that as a threat to our individual liberties rather, it was preservation of them.

A federal judge in Seattle has scheduled a trial to start more than a year from now regarding the legal challenge to Washington states new restrictions on high-capacity gun magazines.

Judge David Estudillo of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington set Dec. 4, 2023, as the opening day for what is scheduled as an eight-day bench trial regarding the Second Amendment Foundations lawsuit against the states ban on sales of new large-capacity magazines for handguns and rifles.

The law, which took effect on July 1, prohibits the sale of gun magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds, along with the manufacturing, distribution or import of such magazines in Washington.

The court has a 6-3 conservative majority, with Jackson joining a liberal bloc that has been relegated to issuing strongly worded dissents in the most important decisions. For example, the court's conservative majority powered rulings on back-to-back days in June overturning its 1973 precedent that had legalized abortion nationwide and expanding gun rights by declaring that the U.S. Constitution protects an individual's right to carry a handgun in public for self-defense.

A Reuters/Ipsos survey conducted after those rulings showed a majority of Americans holding unfavorable views of the court.

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms Louisville Special Agent in Charge Shawn Morrow explained Thursday that guns modified with machine gun conversion devices or "auto sears" are making their way onto the street in significant numbers in what he called a "new phenomenon."

"The more it fires, it has a tendency to ride up," Morrow said. "The opportunity for bystanders and innocent civilians to be injured is significant."

Morrow described the power of the guns modified with the piece by saying just one pull of the trigger can allow for dozens or even hundreds of rounds to be shot in seconds.

While she agreed with Mizeur that more could be done legislatively to ensure public safety in legal gun purchases, the woman expressed dismay at the endless flood of illegal guns used in crime in Baltimore.

Indeed, thats a huge problem, and an exasperating one. For years, police have said the majority of illegal firearms in Baltimore come from states with more liberal gun laws.

Last year, partnering with Bloomberg-funded Every Town USA to track the flow of illegal guns into Baltimore, Mayor Brandon Scott reported that more than 60% of firearms seized by police were from outside Maryland while 82% were from outside the city.

We were also successful in expanding school choice options under Education Freedom Accounts and stopping public schools from telling children that they were racist because of their race (so much irony there I dont know where to begin).

We joined Vermont and Maine in becoming a constitutional carry state two sessions ago, and were able to stop several bills that wouldve made hunting, renting and self-defense almost impossible in most of the state.

Gun control advocates are ready to start grabbing pitchforks and torches in their attempt to drive out firearm manufacturer advertisements. They fear that todays advertising is running to a tipping point where they need to rally the villagers to chase the monster pieced together by mad gun advertisers out of town.

Todays gun ads, they claim, are a horrific menagerie of toxic masculinity, fearmongering and anti-government militancy. Except none of that is true. Gun controls efforts are more like a witch hunt, and more like Monty Pythons version of one depicted in the cult classic, The Holy Grail.

Over my about twenty years of teaching civilian, military, and law enforcement handgun students, both beginners and experienced ones, I have observed several of the same rudimentary mistakes and common problems in shooting that continually repeat themselves. There are five shooting problems that occur frequently and can be deadly, so I want to point them out and give you several tips to overcome them. I have learned that all of these problems are related to the most basic and fundamental contemporary principles, tactics, and techniques for effective shooting.

U.S. Senator Roger Marshall, M.D. has introduced the Stop Harassing Owners of Rifles Today (SHORT) Act, new legislation that protects American citizens 2nd Amendment Rights from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) proposed registry for firearms with stabilizing braces. In the House of Representatives, U.S. Congressman Andrew Clyde (GA-09) introduced an identical bill.

The ATFs federal gun registry is just the latest proof that the Biden Administration has no understanding of firearms and only seeks to limit American citizens ability to rightfully own firearms of their choosing, said Senator Marshall.

I think its dangerous, said Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) in an interview with the Gray Washington News Bureau over the credit card companies unveiling merchant codes which could be used to track gun purchases.

Hawley says he strongly disagrees with the plans of Visa, Mastercard, and American Express to use a new merchant code to categorize gun purchases.

In a tweet on September 13, calling it a big threat to Second Amendment rights.

On the same day Hawley posted his tweet, he also sent a letter to credit card company CEOs asking them to reconsider.

Unless they at some point wanted to interfere, said Hawley. We know thats the case. We know theres no real business reason for it because they havent ever done it.

We now have a new framework for how the federal prohibition on felons owning guns could be constitutional.

District Judge David Counts of Western Texas upheld the conviction ban this week. Thats despite the fact that he struck down the federal ban on people indicted for felonies receiving firearms just a few days beforehand. And he did it under the Supreme Courts Bruen standard, making him among the first to apply it to federal law.

His logic will sound familiar to anyone who followed his opinion in the indictment case. After calling into question the constitutionality of the indictment ban under Bruens text-and-tradition standard, he did the same for the conviction ban.

Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi says he wants the City Council to draft an ordinance limiting where guns can be carried.

Blangiardi is getting out in front of a public hearing scheduled for Tuesday to finalize rules that will allow Oahu residents to carry firearms in public. The state and counties need to craft new policies on gun carry following a U.S. Supreme Court decision earlier this summer that overturned Hawaiis ban against being able to carry guns outside the home.
