Last week, OFCC was first to report that law enforcement agencies in Ohio are not in agreement on Ohio's amended CCW bill.

We also reported that the Buckeye State Sheriff Association (BSSA) had asked both the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) and Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) to a meeting, the purpose for which is to get the major law enforcement agencies in agreement on this important issue.

We are now pleased to report that the Fraternal Order of Police has accepted the invitation.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

The Michigan Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal of a lower court ruling that communities can't ban handguns from public buildings.

The decision is a victory for the Lansing-based Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners. The group challenged Ferndale's ban on guns in city buildings.

The Michigan Court of Appeals threw out the ban earlier this year when it ruled in favor of three residents who had sued to defeat the ban.

Gun-rights groups are praising both the appeals court and state Supreme Court's decision.

Ferndale Mayor Bob Porter said he is stunned the court ignored widespread support for the ordinance.

An editorial rant by the leader of South Africa's primary gun prohibition organization...
-------
"What is bad for the gun dealer might just be good for the South African public overall."

"Gun violence is a major problem in South Africa. We have one of the highest firearm-related murder rates in the world; more than 30 people die from gunshot wounds every day (more than from all forms of motor car accidents combined) and guns are used in 80% of armed robberies, which have soared in number in the last few years."

"Some might blame this on illegal guns, but the divide between legal and illegal guns gets more and more blurred all the time." ...
-------

The divide gets blurrier in direct proportion to the advent of new, more restrictive gun prohibitions -- because more people are turned into criminals at the stroke of a pen, and more people are choosing to disobey laws that place them at the mercy of the many armed and violent thugs on the loose.

Court Rejects Gunmakers' Appeal

WASHINGTON (AP) - "Two gunmakers who challenged Congress' authority to ban the manufacture, sale and possession of semiautomatic assault weapons lost a Supreme Court appeal Monday."

"The court, without comment, rejected an appeal that said Congress exceeded its power to regulate interstate commerce when it outlawed such weapons in 1994."

"The 1994 law, an amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968, defines semiautomatic assault weapons to include a list of specified firearms and "copies or duplicates of the firearms in any caliber.' "

"Navegar Inc. and Penn Arms Inc. challenged the federal ban in 1995."

"Florida-based Navegar, doing business as Intratec, manufactures two semiautomatic pistols, the TEC-DC9 and TEC-22, which are among the specifically banned weapons."

"Pennsylvania-based Penn Arms makes the Strike 12, a 12-gauge revolving cylinder shotgun. All such shotguns are treated as semiautomatic assault weapons under the 1994 law." ...

The manufacturers' position is entirely correct, of course. But the judges apparently prefer serving their employer rather than serving liberty -- a common malady among public servants these days.

"He had a permit to legally carry a handgun for eight days, before committing a crime. Now, he's the first Minnesotan to have his handgun permit suspended under the state's new gun law."

"When the new handgun permit law was debated here at the capitol opponents feared it would turn Minnesota into the 'wild west.' That has not happened, but one Minnesota man does have the dubious distinction of being the first to lose his right-to-carry for committing a felony with his handgun."

"These tire skid marks mark the end of his right to carry a handgun in public...at least for now." ...

"According to the criminal complaint, Petersen's brother began ramming his car into a retaining wall and the side of his house. When he wouldn't stop, Damian Petersen "emptied the entire magazine" of a semi-automatic handgun into the car's engine, in an attempt to 'kill the motor.' " ...
-------

NEWSFLASH FOR THE "REPORTER" WHO WROTE THIS STORY:

Anyone legally allowed to possess a handgun in Minnesota can carry it in any way he or she chooses on his or her own property. Concealed, open, whatever. This includes this particular person. The fact that he had a concealed weapons permit is irrelevant to the facts in this case -- because it happened on his own property. He could have shot his violent brother's car whether he had a permit or not. And in common law, if his brother was destroying his home with his car, he had every right in the world to protect his property anyway.
