"Besides the cursory newspaper articles about how John has hunted since a child (a la Clinton in 1992), John Kerry espouses the belief that there should be reasonable controls placed upon gun ownership and availability. The only issue gun owners may have with this is that every restriction that comes along is reasonable to him. Like Clinton, the 2nd Amendment is about hunting. And like Clinton, he believes he should tell us what is reasonable and what we need." |

"Legalization of marijuana, loosening of immigration laws and levying of vetoes on proposed government bills were some of the many subjects tackled by libertarian presidential candidate Michael Badnarik during two separate speeches on campus last night." ...

"Islamist terrorists in Beslan, Russia, are currently holding hundreds of children hostage, threatening to execute them. No one knows how this horrible situation will end; but we do know that it could have been prevented. Decades ago, Israel adopted a policy that swiftly ended terrorist attacks against schools. Earlier this year, Thailand adopted a similar approach. It is politically incorrect, but it does have the advantage of saving the lives of children and teachers. The policy? Encourage teachers to carry firearms." |

FULL TEXT BELOW:
A 17-year-old at Arsenal Technical High School accused of bringing a pellet gun to school and leading police on a short chase Friday has been suspended, authorities said.
The trouble began when students at the school, located at 1500 E. Michigan St., notified an Indianapolis Public Schools' police officer about 7:30 a.m. that they believed the teen had a gun.
When officers arrived at a courtyard where a group of about 20 students had gathered, the suspect reportedly threw the pellet gun into a trash container and took off.
No one was hurt, police said.
Officials questioned the student and said an investigation would determine if the teen would ultimately be expelled or arrested. |

"Smith & Wesson has launched a program to communicate better with customers and stage events in Springfield and elsewhere to draw gun buyers."
"The program is dubbed Club 1852 in honor of the year in which Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson first went into business together. Almost 10,000 customers have signed up for the program in the several months Smith & Wesson has been shipping information about it with new products."
"The program will include a series of shooting and social events, including an annual meeting in Springfield for program members." ...
------- Poster's Note: I believe I communicated with S&W quite well. They sold out gun-owners by signing the agreement with the Clinton administration and I told them I would never buy one of their guns, ever, under any circumstances, until they repudiated the agreement and apologized to law-abiding gun owners everywhere. Then when they said the CA .50 cal ban was "premature" (i.e. it's not wrong, or evil or unconstitutional, just premature) I wrote them again telling them that again, they had lost a potential customer (and enclosed copies of the receipts for my .45 Para-Ordnance, my .357 Ruger and my 9mm Baby Eagle). |

"With Congress set to come back from its Summer District Work Period on September 7, only a handful of legislative days remain before the Clinton gun ban is due to expire on September 13."
"With time running out, two things are certain:
1 - The anti-gunners will re-double their efforts to expand and extend the ban (in fact, next week, the Brady Campaign will once again roll out its typical and ongoing dog-and-pony PR show to blame inanimate objects for the acts of criminals)
2 - and we can not take anything for granted!" |

"The Brady Law's background checks have stopped more than a million felons, fugitives and stalkers from buying guns. The assault weapons ban has saved the lives of police officers and innocent civilians. And if you abuse your spouse, you should lose the right to purchase a firearm. And machine guns on our streets? Mr. Coors must hunt some pretty remarkable deer."
------- 1 - Read a history book, Mr. Brady. Pick up the Federalist Papers and the Anti-Federalist. Examine what the Second Amendment is really about. It is not about hunting.
2 - The Brady Law's background check may have stopped fugitives, felons and stalkers from purchasing guns, but ONLY where background checks are performed - via legal means. The last time we checked, Mr. Brady, criminals, for the most part, do not purchase their weapons via legal means. And as far as we understand, Mr. Brady, black market gun dealers do not perform background checks.
3 - The "assault" weapons ban has been completely useless. There is no data to indicate that it has saved ANYONE's life, except maybe the Korean shop owners who used these weapons in 1992 to save their lives and property from the LA rioters. |

"Student hunters, martial arts enthusiasts and paint-ball fiends are welcome to live on campus or in fraternity and sorority houses, but they must lock their weapons up at the UMaine Department of Public Safety, where a room is earmarked for that purpose." ...
"A 2003 nationwide poll of 150 schools showed that UMaine is one of only 11 schools that has storage facilities for guns on campus, according to Alliance for Justice, an association of advocacy organizations." ...
"If students want to keep their weapons close at hand, they have no other option. University policy prohibits students from keeping or using weapons, including firearms, BB guns, bows, rockets and slingshots anywhere on campus, or in vehicles driven on campus."
------- Of course if a student is attacked on campus or in a frat house, they'll have time to run to the "gun room" and get their firearm for self defense, right? Right? |

"Worried that even showing a starting pistol in a car ad might encourage gun crime in Britain, the British communications regulator has banned a Ford Motor Co. television spot because in it a woman is pictured holding such a 'weapon.' According to a report by Bloomberg News, the ad was said by regulators to 'normalize' the use of guns and 'must not be shown again.' "
"What's next? Toy guns? Actually, the British government this year has been debating whether to ban toy guns. As a middle course, some unspecified number of imitation guns will be banned, and it will be illegal to take imitation guns into public places."
"And in July a new debate erupted over whether those who own shotguns must now justify their continued ownership to the government before they will get a license."
"The irony is that after gun laws are passed and crime rises, no one asks whether the original laws actually accomplished their purpose. Instead, it is automatically assumed that the only 'problem' with past laws was they didn't go far enough. But now what is there left to do? Perhaps the country can follow Australia's recent lead and ban ceremonial swords." |

Fifth letter on the page
"While Kooinga is correct in his inference that Great Britain and Australia have very restrictive gun control laws, he could hardly be more wrong regarding those countries' crime rates."
"The Seventh United Nations Survey on Crime Trends shows that, in 1999 for example, compared with the U.S., Great Britain had 32 percent and Australia had 40 percent of the total recorded homicide rate per 100,000 population."
"The same survey shows that the corresponding figures for homicides committed with a firearm are 4 percent for Great Britain and 11 percent for Australia, again compared with the U.S. figures per 100,000 population."
------- Of course statistics confirm that crime has risen significantly after gun control was implemented in both countries, while America's crime rates have been declining steadily.
So yes, "Gun controls work well..." to disarm the victims and make them vulnerable to armed thugs. |
