Under Senate Bill 535, licensed holders are now allowed to carry handguns in churches and established places of worship. Senator Donna Campbell of New Braunfels filed the bill, that went into effect on September first. Campbell said the previously existing statute was "confusing and clunky." The new bill clarifies "the Legislature's intent to treat churches in the same manner as other privately owned establishments in Texas." Churches can still prohibit guns with signage if they choose to do so.

In a unanimous opinion issued Aug. 29, judges Kenneth Ripple, David Hamilton and Amy St. Eve, of the U.S. Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, said the two Cook County residents who appealed a dismissal of their Second Amendment challenge argued from the same losing position as the plaintiff in a 2015 case. The law at question is the Blair Holt Assault Weapons Ban, a November 2006 amendment to the Cook County Deadly Weapons Dealer Control Ordinance that defines assault weapon and large-capacity magazine, and makes it illegal to manufacture, sell, offer or display for sale, give, lend, transfer ownership of, acquire, carry or possess either item in Cook County. |

The state isnt here to give you everything you wantnot even if what you want is extraordinarily popular with your fellow Americans. This is, no doubt, disorientating for voters who grew up believing they live in a democracy. In reality, our un-democratic constitutional bulwarks temper the vagaries of the majority. Had every Athenian citizen been a Socrates, James Madison quipped, every Athenian assembly would still have been a mob.

Lawmakers around the country are making a renewed push to ban high-capacity magazines that gunmen have used in many recent massacres, allowing them to inflict mass casualties at a startling rate before police can stop the carnage. Nine states have passed laws restricting magazine capacity to 10 to 15 cartridges, and the Democratic-led U.S. House plans to consider a similar ban at the federal level in the coming weeks. |

Lorin Michki is a young artist who is making a lot of noise with his detailed firearm illustrations. In an era of digital design, Lorin has gone old school, leveraging his traditional skills with pen and ink to visually connect with the golden age of firearms, illustrating gunpowder, steel and wood in all its glory. I found it quite interesting to meet a member of the next generation of American gun ownersa man who celebrates his Second Amendment rights with a pistol and a pen, and finds them both mightier than the sword.

Mormon church declares: No guns in church. This is the new rule from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Note, it makes an exception for only ones law enforcement officers. Since the Mormon Church is always lead by a man said to be a prophet of God (the highest prophet since he leads the Church), this is a big deal. Unless LDS members can challenge the authority of their President, they MUST accept this ruling as from God. |

If timing is everything, the management at Walmart may have just made a decision thatat least in Washington Statemay hurt its bottom line, as the store announced Tuesday it is discontinuing sales of handgun ammunition, according to the Washington Times.
The Washington Department of Licensing reported Tuesday that the number of active concealed pistol licenses in the Evergreen State has risen to more than 629,000. Thats up more than 1,550 CPLs from Aug. 1, and for the year, an increase of more than 29,500 active licenses since the first of the year. |
