Connecticut-based Mossberg announced this week it is expanding its line of 940 Pro autoloading shotguns with the release of Field, Snow Goose, and Waterfowl models. The series originally kicked off last year with the input of competitive shooters Jerry and Lena Miculek to produce the 940 JM Pro 12 gauge. Now, the new 940 Pro Waterfowl and the 940 Pro Snow Goose, featuring Cerakote metal surfaces, chrome-lined barrels, HIVIZ TriComp sights, and camo-finished stocks and forends join the line. |

Hornady Zombie Max (Z-MAX) ammunition was a special line created for killing zombies. Yes, thats right zombies. No longer in production, this specialty ammo was basically a fun gimmick with surprisingly good performance. Paired with a cool packaging design, Hornady Z-MAX made for a great conversation piece and was very popular among shooters mainly because nobody knew how long it would be in production. Here are some of the features and uses of these fun zombie bullets (other than zombie control, of course). The official webpage also has a fun video and a great disclaimer thats worth a read. |

RIO was established by parent company MAXAM Outdoors in 1896, a global leader in the explosives industry and provider of munitions to more than 60 countries. They entered the American market at long last in 2002, and are now considered a major international player in shooting sports. Curiously, RIOs parent company MAXAM was founded by Alfred Nobel, who is both the inventor of TNT and the founder of the Nobel Prize, which, of course, includes the Nobel Peace Prize. |

Americans just keep buying guns! This record-shattering trend, which began in early 2020, just keeps going. Last months background-check numbers rose from Julys and are the second highest of any August on record. According to data from the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), more than 1.3 million background checks were conducted for the sale of a firearm via the FBIs National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) in August, bringing the annual number up to more than 12.4 million; in fact, that number isnt far from the 13.2 million checks that were conducted up to this point last yearthe very year that shattered all previous records. |

Bans on modern multi-purpose semi-automatic firearms have been pushed by anti-Second Amendment extremists for decades. The real question is how to take out these bans. Many of the states that have these bans are said to be deep blue states, and the same goes for localities. The best solution, of course, is to have a pro-Second Amendment legislature that prevents such bans from being enacted in the first place, or which can repeal said bans quickly.

Yesterday, NRA-ILA filed an amicus curiae (or friend of the court) brief in support of a petition to the United States Supreme Court challenging ATFs 2018 rule that classified bump stocks as machine guns. This is the second time NRA-ILA has filed an amicus curiae brief in a case challenging this rule in as many months. ATF had determined that bump stocks were not machine guns on ten separate occasions from 2008 to 2017. But that changed in 2018, when ATF announced that it would review its regulatory definition of machinegun. |

Al Capone ranks among the most notorious gangsters in history. His name and face are synonymous with the proliferation of gang violence during the Prohibition era, and hes widely assumed to have been responsible for ordering the 1929 gang hit infamously known as the "St. Valentines Day Massacre." To his family, though, he was known as a father and grandfather affectionately called Papa. In 2021, nearly 75 years after his death, the Capone family is auctioning off several of Al Capones personal items, including a .45 ACP-chambered Colt 1911 known to be his favorite. |

When Ruger introduced its Mini-14 in 1973 it didnt take enthusiasts long to become enamored with the nimble semi-automatic carbine so reminiscent of the M1 and M14. The versatile gas-operated, piston-driven guns were compact, built to the companys rugged standards and chambered in 5.56 NATO. One of the few complaints, however, was the fact that cartridge limited the guns ability to be used during big game season in many regions of the country. |

Ive used the toolbox a lot over the years, not just hunting and fishing. By observing the situation and evaluating it effectively, I was able to eat fish and hunted meat, but I was able to prevent troubles. Over the last few decades, the number of people participating in traditional outdoor sports has tended to decline sharply. Indeed, hiking and biking trails are full of people. Crossing Brazos you can see many kayaks paddling, but with little access to fishing and hunting areas, only stubborn hunters and anglers, or their families, have their own hunting and fishing. The land continues those traditions. |

Back when most of the hunters I knew used primitive arms, such as M1903 Springfields and 4X scopes, the variable riflescope was just starting to be accepted. This was in the mid-1960s. Most shooters still think of variables as a modern development, even though Zeiss (who else?) first began marketing practical riflescopes that would change magnification back in the 1930s.
