AL: Maybe its not the guns

We dont have to live like this.

The only reason we do the absolute only reason is politics. Weve allowed the firearm industry to turn gun regulations into a white-and-black political issue, divide us up and then gridlock our spineless, hopeless lawmakers into doing absolutely nothing. Ever.

Guns are the number one killer of kids.

More than car accidents. More than illnesses. More than accidents.

Number one.

If literally anything else killed kids at such a rate, wed regulate the hell out of it.

Austin reportedly went outside with his own firearm and demanded that Weisner leave. That's when, according to detectives, Weisner started yelling and reached into the center console of his truck.

"Austin heard a sound he felt was consistent with the racking of a gun slide and saw corresponding movement," the sheriff's office wrote.

Detectives said Austin then fired multiple shots at Weisner, claiming he was in fear for his life. Austin went back inside the house and called 911.

According to the sheriff's office, Austin McMann has cooperated with the investigation and is claiming self-defense.

Gray was interviewed by law enforcement last year after he made online threats about carrying out a school shooting, according to investigators. His father, who also was interviewed, told officials he had hunting guns in the house but his son did not have access to them.

The shooters ability to obtain the semiautomatic rifle, any signs warning he would actually carry out a shooting and his motive are focuses for investigators digging into the United States first mass campus shooting since the start of the school year.

Gray was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. He will be charged and tried as an adult, said Chris Hosey, director of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

IL: Illinois Public Transport Carry Ban Ruled Unconstitutional as Four Passengers Murdered on CTA Blue Line

Rockford, Illinois Federal Judge, Iain Johnston has ruled Illinois concealed carry ban on public transportation unconstitutional, yet it is clear that just days after the murder of four CTA Blue Line passengers, city officials and policymakers still dont get it or simply dont care. The U.S. District Judges decision pertains specifically to Illinois residents who have already been vetted and approved for concealed carry permits, a bad look for opponents of the ruling as they are unable to stop criminals from carrying firearms and committing murder but have instead targeted law-abiding citizens, callously leaving them unable to defend themselves in Chicago, one of Americas most violent and crime-ridden cities.

One person is dead after what appeared to be a self-defense shooting in Daviess County.

The Daviess County dispatchers sent deputies to a home on State Road 257, north of the East Fork of the Wabash River bridge.

The caller said a man, later identified as Kevin Wilson, 59, from Washington, pulled into the driveway, armed with a gun, and started arguing with her husband, David Goble.

When Goble said he noticed Wilson was pointing a gun at home, Gobile fired his weapon twice at Wilson. Wilson got back into his vehicle but later died due to his injuries.

Louisianas Second Amendment sales tax holiday is set for this weekend, allowing residents to purchase firearms, ammunition, and hunting supplies without state sales tax. The annual event usually takes place in September. West Monroe Senator Steward Cathey says its a popular tradition for gun enthusiasts and hunters preparing for the season.

Particularly, where Im from up in North Louisiana we see people coming from Arkansas, Mississippi, Texas into our communities just for this weekend alone.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Wednesday, as part of a coalition of 19 attorneys general, filed an amicus brief in support of Cook County, Illinois assault weapons ban. The brief, filed in Viramontes v. County of Cook, urges the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals to uphold a lower courts ruling that the law is consistent with the Second Amendment.

As part of our ongoing commitment to stand behind commonsense gun safety measures for all Americans, we urge the court to uphold Cook Countys ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, said Attorney General Bonta.

Despite Lies Spread by Trump and the NRA, Harris and Walz Do Not Want To Take Everyones Guns Away

Falsely accusing politicians of secretly wanting to take away all guns simply because they support commonsense gun violence prevention policies is a tired page in the corporate gun lobbys playbook that uses lies and fear to protect its own interests. These types of slippery-slope arguments were levied against the 1994 Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, a popular law requiring licensed gun dealers to conduct federal background checks on firearm customers, and are still frequently used to oppose popular bipartisan policies including universal background checks and extreme risk protection orders.

Ed.: If gun control is so popular, why are Harris/Walz proxies lying about their anti-gun policies?

In a landmark ruling, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals determined that a federal prohibition on gun ownership for marijuana users is unconstitutional in certain circumstances, citing the Second Amendments protection of the right to bear arms. The ruling involved Paola Connelly, a Texas woman who was charged for possessing firearms while occasionally using marijuana.

The courts decision builds on a 2022 Supreme Court ruling that expanded gun rights under the Second Amendment, particularly emphasizing that disarming individuals based on occasional drug use contradicts historical firearm regulations. This case serves as a significant challenge to federal laws that limit gun ownership based on past marijuana use.

In the lawsuit Oakland Tactical Supply v. Howell Township, petitioner Oakland Tactical was seeking to construct an outdoor firing range on its property located in the agricultural residential district of the township, which the plaintiff considers a suitable location for that use, as evidenced by the fact that the township permits other similar commercial uses in the district (such as the rock quarry formerly operated on the property in question) and in fact freely allows target shooting on the property, so long as it is done privately rather than in a commercial setting.

The Georgia State Senate leadership has taken action to investigate firearm safety by establishing the Safe Firearms Study Committee. This committee will examine the need for firearm lock boxes or safes and other options. We had the first of three open hearings on August 20, 2024, to review and discuss the issues.

I am honored to serve on this committee, appointed by leadership, due to my steadfast commitment to Second Amendment rights and my lifelong experience with firearms.

Looking back, I shouldnt have had to do that in secret with a few close family friends. Fortunately, in California, where Ive lived for most of the past 20 years, families and community members dont have to.

In 2014, California enacted the first Extreme Risk Protection Orders. Otherwise known as red flag laws, these orders empower families and community members to deescalate potential violence by temporarily restricting access to guns for individuals deemed to be a threat to themselves or others through a gun violence restraining order.

These are raw counts, not relative totals. There were 437 million residents in the countries included in IHMEs Western Europe data in 2021, about 92 million of them under age 20. There were about 262 million Americans under 18 in 2023, including about 8.5 million in Georgia that year. But more Georgia children than European kids were killed by firearms.

Ed.: There are about 73 million Americans under 18, not 262 million. Heck, there are only about 345 million Americans total. There is a reason people, justifiably, don't trust WaPo.

Advocates for gun violence prevention testified Thursday, at times through tears, before the Georgia Senates Safe Firearm Storage Study Committee about the fear and discomfort they felt after a shooting the day before at Apalachee High School in Winder left two students and two adults dead.

I had a lot of things prepared to say, but Im just going to sit up here and cry, apparently, said Sarah Walker, a member of the group Georgia Moms for Change, which advocates for safe gun storage and other measures.

In a speech scheduled to tackle economic issues on Thursday, former president Donald Trump echoed a conspiracy theory debunked by law enforcement, claiming that a Venezuelan gang had taken control of a large section of Colorado.

Speaking before a crowd at the Economic Club of New York in an event at which he promised to extend tax cuts on the ultra-wealthy and massive tariffs on consumer goods, Trump repeated the conspiracy theory that Aurora police debunked.

You saw in Colorado this week, a group from Venezuela . . . rough ones, rough ones . . . they took over large sections of a town, large sections of an area of Colorado, the former president said. Aurora, has anyone been there? I think youd better stay away for a while.

A Georgia gun owner's attorney asked a judge Wednesday to halt enforcement of a Savannah city ordinance that imposes fines and possibly jail time for people who leave guns inside unlocked cars.

The lawsuit by Clarence Belt could ultimately determine whether city officials successfully found a niche where they can legally regulate gun safety in a state where Republican lawmakers have widely abolished restrictions on owning and carrying firearms.

Career progressive politicians and gun control activists of all types looked to an event at a Georgia high school on Wednesday and spoke out in unison before the facts were known, calling for more restrictions.

After an active shooter event at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia a town of 19,000 about 50 miles north of Atlanta state law enforcement provided a series of statements in the incident. This included the fact that the suspect was taken into custody by local authorities early into the event.

With little to go on other than the terse statements, within minutes Democrats from the White House on down broke out the gun ban spin machine and began cranking out calls for quick action.
