Incident where "a bullet grazed a woman's head" ... "The first Deputies, who had come by boat, did not arrive until 40 minutes later" (than the Fire Department/Paramedics, who would not move in until the scene was "secured"). I reckon they need some full-time Police or some trained Deputized armed citizens.

A convicted 8-time rapist is about to be set free again--into a community of women (LA area) who don't have the right to bear arms. His doctors and the DA are against release--but a judge overruled them, saying that monitoring him (cost: $100k/year) was better than imprisoning him (cost: $30k).

GPS monitoring will prove that he was at the scene of the crime with his next rape victim--but it won't stop the rape, and she won't have a gun. Sexual predators 1, women 0.

Attorneys for Army Spc. Michael New will submit a Petition of 'Certiorari' to the Supreme Court on September 10, a move which may well "exhaust the military remedy," as they were instructed by civilian courts in late 1995.

Only one issue is allowed to be brought to the attention of the Supreme Court in this case -- that of whether a soldier accused of disobeying an order has the right to introduce evidence which might prove the order was unlawful.
