Houston County sheriff's deputies say the fatal shooting of a man in the Pansey community near Dothan was result of an ongoing domestic dispute and was an apparent case of self defense.

Sheriff's Capt. Antonio Gonzalez told The Dothan Eagle newspaper that 42-year-old Ricky Ingram died early Sunday in his father-in-law's yard in the Pansey community.

Gonzalez said a preliminary investigation showed Clinton Hobbs shot Ingram, his son-in-law, when he came into Hobbs' yard and came toward him with a knife.

Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd said Ingram apparently died after being shot in the chest.

Gun rights advocates such as Wrye dodged a bullet last week when a state bill that would have made it illegal to carry unconcealed firearms in California escaped consideration on the final day of this year's legislative session.

Fearing a Republican filibuster, Democrats decided to set the bill aside so others deemed more critical could be considered, officials say.

Assemblywoman Lori Salda a, D-San Diego, introduced the legislation known as Assembly Bill 1934. It's supported by the California Police Chiefs Association and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, she said.

MIAMI (AP) -- Turns out the person three men tried to rob at a cash machine is a Miami-Dade police officer.

Police say the off-duty officer was withdrawing money from the ATM.

Submitter's Note: Go Figure... If you attack an armed person, you may not get exactly what you came for. Kudos to the armed citizen. That he was law enforcement, just helped with the investigation phase.

A local story, which aired on KFSM-TV this weekend, is creating quite a stir in the national gun rights circle. National writer David Codrea first reported on the account in his Examiner article here.

While the news chronicle by KFSM is lacking in many details, these facts are known:

* The Arkansas State Police stripped Wayne Irelan of his CHCL license.
* Irelan is a Purple Heart recipient, wounded in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
* The Irelans receive a small stipend from the Veterans Administration, due to Waynes wife Lana taking over the family finances.
* The Veterans Administration has declared Wayne Irelan mentally incompetent due to Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome.

A homeowner who grabbed a rifle from his house and fired warning shots in a confrontation with a group of men on his lawn faced arraignment on criminal charges Monday as his family said he was defending his home from a threatening mass of strangers.

George Grier, 30, fired rounds into the ground and air from an assault-style rifle after arguing with a large group of men gathered outside his Long Island home Sunday evening....

His sister, Caprice Rines, said Grier feared for the safety of his wife and two small children when about 20 men converged on his Uniondale lawn after two of them began quarreling. He didn't know the men, who ignored his requests to leave and kept approaching the house, she said.

Uecker's office was approached by Ohioans for Concealed Carry and Buckeye Firearms Association to back this legislation, not only because of the fear of repercussions from their employers, but also because citizens were concerned about how to protect themselves in transit from home to work.

"Employees should not be discriminated against just because they choose to exercise their Second Amendment rights," Uecker said.

"This legislation will prevent intrusive company policies on personal freedoms and possible dismissal based on the merit that management does not agree with the individual's right."

...

"Parking lot" legislation was first introduced in 2002 in Oklahoma.... Since then, 13 states have passed the law.

The intruder who punched out a Chandler man while stealing beer at a keg party picked the wrong victim.

The man, who had been attempting to defend his wife during the beer theft, had a permit to carry a concealed weapon. Fearing for his life and under attack, he pulled out a gun and fatally shot two men believed by police to be gang members early Sunday morning.

"People in Arizona carry guns," said Detective David Ramer, a Chandler police spokesman. "You better be careful about who you are picking on."

Ramer said police have concluded the shooter, who fears reprisals and whose name is not being released, acted in self-defense and have cleared him of any potential wrongdoing in the shooting deaths.

Pierce says the governments brief against al-Awlaki, ..., could have broader, more foreboding implications on U.S. homeland security long-term.

Where does this end? Who is the terrorist? What if a pastor counseled someone that abortion is the worst sin there is and then the person counseled went and bombed one or two abortion clinics. Thats terrorism, he said asking whether the U.S. government might then go after the pastor for counseling a terrorist.

So how can we be sure some future administration wont take an incident where someone is fed up with taxes, suffering from depression and commits an act that can be called terrorism, that (the government) wont sweep up everyone connected with that person.

Ed.: Imagine how such loose rules could be applied to gun-owners and gun-rights groups.

A Supreme Court decision could alter what riders here see in ads on city buses and trains and in transit shelters.

Pro-gun images, which are banned under an ad policy of the San Francisco Metropolitan Transportation Agency, showed up recently on posters for a conference for the Second Amendment Foundation, a gun rights group based in Washington.

The group spent $10,000 to have the posters, which feature a woman with a shotgun, hung at bus stops.

The poster's red type reads: "A violent criminal is breaking through your front door. Can you afford to be unarmed?"

Theres nothing more annoying than getting a complaint about my gun collection from a feminist with a tattoo on her lower back. I dont let anyone irresponsible get near my guns so that no one gets killed. When the feminist lets irresponsible men near her tattoos theres a better chance that someones getting aborted.

All kidding aside (was I kidding?), in recent months I have been hearing more and more complaints about my gun collection from people who read my columns this despite the fact that the columns make them angry. (Im glad these folks dont own guns!) Some of those complaints have come to me directly. Some have been directed towards the authorities and my employers at UNCW.

Find out why

- According to The New York Times, posters for the Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg film The Other Guys were altered in San Francisco. Here is the original poster

The article states that in San Francisco, where the San Francisco Metropolitan Transportation Agency bans the use of gun imagery in ads, the ads and posters in transit vehicles and stations had the guns removed. They were either replaced with pepper spray cans, police badges or the hands were simply bare. Pro-gun groups as well as second amendment advocates are using this to challenge the agency's ad policy, citing the U.S. Supreme Court's June 28 decision in the case of McDonald v. Chicago as grounds to have firearms featured in ads.

When Alan Gottlieb, founder the Second Amendment Foundation, read on a gun law blog that Mr. Wahlberg and Mr. Ferrell had been stripped of their weapons, he promptly had 16 posters printed to promote the groups gun rights policy conference, which is scheduled to be held here.

To his surprise, the posters were installed last week in what his organization called in a press release something of a coup.

We were prepared to go to court and sue if they did not put them up, Mr. Gottlieb said. Having a gun is a constitutional right.

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed in an eastern Columbia apartment on Monday morning, but police said there is evidence the shooting happened in self-defense.

... The 22-year-old female resident of the apartment also suffered a gunshot wound to the lower leg during the episode.

...

Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jessie Haden said the victim shows a St. Louis address. She said in an earlier news release that he is the former boyfriend of the woman who lives in the apartment. He instigated the incident, she said Monday afternoon.

The (victim) went in brandishing a gun. From the information investigators got at the scene, he was shot in self-defense, Haden said.
