Doctor defends armed self-defense in California medical journal.
Some medical organizations have called for more gun laws. This California doctor replied with facts. -There is no epidemic of murder with a firearm. -More gun laws will not reduce violent crime because gun laws don't work. -Gun laws are a political distraction from the real sources of violence.

Christopher Lapinski, the operations manager at Last Stand Readiness & Tactical, a gun shop in Sacramento, is considering moving his operation out of California, thanks to the states continued determination to restrict gun sales further. In the meantime he is enjoying a booming business, especially in handguns, as Californians rush to buy them before they cant. As Lapinski told Fox News: The whole anti-gun movement taking guns from [law-abiding] citizens literally has everyone and their grandmother buying firearms before they cant get them anymore. |

Chicago has reached a crisis point for gun violence. Voices from various public officials have recently suggested that the solution is to increase the penalty for gun possession. They suggest that a "war on guns" needs to be launched, with longer prison terms providing victory. They are sadly mistaken. |

I can really shoot this gun, you might say, or you may admit: I cant hit a thing with this gun. Why? What makes a shotgun shootable? A few factors.
My list of what makes a gun shootable may or may not match up with yours. I am not a great shot, but I can pick up almost any gun and shoot it okay, which is a good ability to have in my line of work where I shoot lots of different guns. Heres a list, in descending order, of important factors that make a shotgun shootable... |

Guns are selling at unprecedented levels this summer, which means 2016 is well on its way to breaking the all-time record for background checks. Background checks conducted by the FBI totaled 1,853,815 in August 2016, a 6% increase from August 2015. That's the most checks ever in the month of August since the FBI started conducting background checks in 1998. In fact, every monthly tally this year has hit an all-time high, meaning that 2016 is on track to be the record year for background checks and, by proxy, gun sales. |

In 1950, Colt introduced the Commander, an M1911-style pistol with a reduced-length (4.25) barrel, an aluminum frame and 9 mm Luger chambering. Originally it was designed to fill a military request for a lighter, more compact pistol. Although a major contract never materialized, the gunreferred to after 1970 as the Lightweight Commander following the introduction of a steel-frame version dubbed the Combat Commanderbecame popular among civilians and as been with us in one form or another ever since.

The next president will have a range of issues on their plate, from how to deal with growing tensions with China and Russia, to an ongoing war against ISIS. But perhaps the most important decision they will make for overall human history is what to do about autonomous weapons systems (AWS), aka killer robots. The new president will literally have no choice. It is not just that the technology is rapidly advancing, but because of a ticking time bomb buried in US policy on the issue.

Webster defines civil rights as rights that every person should have regardless of his or her sex, race or religion. Im pretty sure the right to defend your life is on that list, wouldnt you agree? Something Ive been thinking about lately is that the Constitution, our right to keep and bear arms, is listed with our other civil rights. The right to worship the God you want, the right to say what you feel, the right to be treated fairly by a court. Those are all civil rights. You are born with them regardless of what the Constitution says. |

The NRA Political Victory Fund said Kosters commitment to the Second Amendment earned him an A rating.
For over 17 years, he has fought to preserve the constitutional rights of law-abiding Missourians, said Chris W. Cox, chairman, NRA-PVF. The NRA is proud to endorse Chris Koster and we urge Missouris gun owners and sportsmen to get out this November and vote to elect a governor with a proven record of fighting to preserve the Second Amendment. |

He's pledged new initiatives to stop the violence and get guns off the streets, called for "more resources for our children" to stem the shootings. In many ways, anti-violence activists say, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel is saying the right things. But after another 13 people were killed in Chicago over Labor Day weekend, including a retired pastor, pushing the city's total homicides this year to 507, the Mayor's Office declined to comment, instead referring questions to the city's police department. |

The FBI says gun sales are up across the country and are on track to break a new record, but gun shop owners say that's not necessarily the case across Colorado. Although gun sales are not quite near the state record yet, concealed carry permits are reaching new heights. Nearly doubling in the past year alone, more people are aiming to get these permits now than they have in three years. |
