"The 1994 ban on assault weapons expires next year and with its renewal hardly guaranteed, gun-control advocates plan to keep the pressure on Congress."

"But so far, none of the Democratic Party's presidential candidates has made gun-control a major thrust of the campaign, further dimming the prospects of passage of a tougher ban."

"All the great religions teach honesty in money, and the economic shortcomings of paper money were well known when the Constitution was written, so we must try to understand why an entire generation of Americans have come to accept paper money without hesitation, without question. Most Americans are oblivious to the entire issue of the nature and importance of money. Many in authority, however, have either been misled by false notions or see that the power to create money is indeed a power they enjoy, as they promote their agenda of welfarism at home and empire abroad."

"Do you want to drive a member of the anti-gun crowd into histrionics worthy of an Oscar? Tell him or her that you think all gun laws should be abolished and ownership should be based on Constitutional Law. As he starts to choke on his granola bar, tell him that everyone except felons, potential terrorists, and the mentally challenged (i.e., voluntary human shields, socialists, anyone who thinks Ralph Nadar would be a good president) should be required to carry a concealed weapon. Then, if your constitutionally impaired friend can still speak, tell him the only screening that should happen at the airport is a fingerprint check; if youre not wanted by the FBI or in violation of immigration laws, the only question the security screener should ask is if you have an extra clip in your carry-on."

"He will probably say or imply that, 'people in a civilized society dont need guns.' Offer 'Herr Unarmed' if he would like some Bratwurst with that whine and tell him that is almost exactly what Hitler said when guns were outlawed in Germany in 1935." ...

"Regardless of how one comes down on the question of homosexual behavior -- the issue at the core of the Supreme Court's recent Lawrence v. Texas decision -- all Americans who believe in our Constitution, and especially those who support the Second Amendment, ought to be concerned."

"What, you might ask, does the right to keep and bear arms have to do with a court decision concerning homosexual behavior? Good question."

"The simple answer is, the decision, particularly language in Justice Anthony Kennedy's majority opinion, could be used to support the use of European or other foreign court decisions, laws, and even general policies, as precedent for changing in U.S. law, including those that relate to firearms."

"In other words, the Lawrence decision could wind up undermining activities and rights protected in this country by the Second Amendment. Got your attention?"

"No sane pilot would announce that the residents of the cockpit are easy pickings. But if such an in-flight admission were indeed made on an American jumbo jet in the America of September 11, 2003, would any stray terrorists among the passengers learn anything they don't already know?"

"Many people today seem to think that the federal government created the states when it was the reverse. The states created the federal government as a stronger form of confederation by delegating certain of their powers to it. Thus, the purpose of the Constitution of 1787, like the Articles of Confederation, was to create a voluntary union to accomplish specific purposes, mainly to ensure a domestic free market, to provide for the common defense of the states and to deal with foreign countries with one voice."

"In the original Constitution, people were not American citizens per se but were instead citizens of their respective states. The Constitution stipulated that each state would grant to the citizens of other states the rights and privileges it granted to its own. It's difficult to understand the War Between the States without understanding the loyalty Americans - North and South felt for their respective states."

Gun makers unveil bunch of new cartridges

"For several years now America's gun makers have been suffering from the same affliction that's bogged down the computer industry - a glutted market."

"I don't know how the computer people figure on getting out of the mire, but the strategy of the gun makers is clear. In hopes of enticing hunters and shooters to part with some long green, they've unveiled a bunch of new cartridges."

"The marketing theory behind the move is simple. First, convince the shooter a new cartridge will outdo any rifle or handgun chambering he already owns. But to cash in on the superiority of the new round, the shooter must buy a gun that's chambered for it. So in effect, the cartridge becomes the tail that wags the dog."

"It is clear from events in the past several days that state Sen. Tom McClintock has captured the momentum in the California Governor's race."

Those of you who think the only way to go is by voting in the gun-grabber Arnold-- what exactly do you think you will "win"? All you'll do is convince the RINOs that betrayal works, and gun owners are too gutless to hold their feet to the fire. They'll betray you the next time, too...why not? You'll have told them there are no consequences.

"I am the attorney who argued the motion to suppress in Matheson v. Florida curbing drug dogs. As an attorney, I am often consulted by people victimized in searches by dogs trained to smell drugs. A drug dog's skills are often overestimated because people anthropomorphize dogs. A human-like quality that dogs have is that they are natural libertarians with no interest in the war on drugs."

"Drug dogs are like humans in that they must be taught to approach peaceful people and search them, so that they can be arrested, handcuffed and imprisoned for decades under modern prohibition. That is not an easy trick to teach a dog. It's easier to teach humans."

"A misunderstanding about firearms legislation may have contributed to the severity of a polar bear attack near Kimmirut on Tuesday."

"The Inuit guide who was the victim of the brutal bear attack did not have a gun to defend himself."

" 'We Inuit are not supposed to have any guns when we guide people from down south, that's why we didn't have a gun,' he says."

"However, that's not what the law says. While Nunavut's Wildlife Act says Inuit cannot use guns to hunt while they're guiding, they can carry guns for protection against bears."

"Shaw says that isn't how he understood the rules."

MI: Zero Tolerance: Schools must keep common sense in the equation

"School districts must use common sense when enforcing zero tolerance laws on weapons or put at risk the very students they're trying to protect."

"The three-day suspension of an elementary student in Jackson for pointing a toy gun at passing motorists last week is a case in point." ...

"It's doubtful that the student even knew that what he did was wrong. In fact, Jackson police said the mother didn't understand what the fuss was about."

"School officials should have had a serious talk with the boy and his mother about the dangers -- to himself and to others -- of brandishing a real-looking gun. Suspension would be appropriate only if the behavior continued."
