A Dallas police officer returning home from work fatally shot a neighbor on Thursday after she mistook his apartment for her own, police said.
Dallas Police Chief U. Renee Hall on Friday revealed the department's intent to charge the officer with manslaughter based on available information.
The officer, who hasn't been named, will be placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
Submitter's note: She kills someone in his own apartment and gets a paid vacation. Sounds more like murder than manslaughter. Only the only ones get this kind of treatment. |

A survivor of the Parkland, Florida, high school shooting said on Friday that she was very concerned about Brett Kavanaughs views on guns and the assault weapons ban, as she implored senators to consider voting against the U.S. Supreme Court nominee.
Aalayah Eastmond, a witness for the Democratic minority in the Senate Judiciary Committee, urged senators at Fridays confirmation hearings for Kavanaugh to weigh the nominees record on the Second Amendment, after delivering an emotional recounting of the Parkland shooting, which brought Sen. Cory Booker, D-New Jersey, to tears. |

Curtis has stated that he is a strong defender of the Second Amendment, but he also believes more should be done to keep firearms out of the hands of violent individuals and the mentally ill.
This bill, Curtis said, would put in place processes to prevent dangerous individuals from obtaining or possessing a firearm.
Other representatives weighed in on the bill, addressing topics such as allowing law enforcement to take action when a person is considered dangerous and improving criminal background checks. |

Levi Strauss & Co. established its brand in the mid-19th century by selling durable clothing to working-class Americans. As Levis signature jeans gained popularity amongst a wider set in the middle of the last century, the pants came to symbolize American freedom. As Stanford Historian Niall Ferguson points out in his book, Civilization: The West and the Rest, during the Cold War, the American pants were so desirable behind the Iron Curtain that citizens would break any number of laws to obtain them. At one point the company even celebrated Americas armed heritage in a circa 1950 advertising brochure, Levis Gallery of Western Guns & Gunfighters. |

The man who stabbed to death 22-year-old Dover resident Michael Barrett last year was justified in his use of deadly force under the law, according an investigation by state and local authorities released Friday. Barretts father disagreed with the finding, saying they murdered my son.
New Hampshire Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonalds investigation states Bailey Manning, 22, stabbed Barrett March 11, 2017, at 18 Edgewood Road in Durham, where Manning was living at the time with two roommates. Manning told investigators the details of the incident, stating he sold drugs to Barrett and used drugs with him and others prior to the deadly confrontation, and Mannings story was corroborated by others. |

On the night in question, waking from a drunken stupor and discovering that she had cooked dinner only for herself, he began beating and choking her. Flailing about with her hands to find something to hit him with, she grabbed a knife and stabbed him in the upper chest.
I was afraid for myself and for my children, she said. I reached my limit and wanted to hit him with something, anything. If I had found a toy on the table, I would have hit him with that. I didnt even look to see what was there. It happened to be a knife. |

The Second Amendment Sales Tax Holiday kicks off today, but the savings wont be as substantial as in years past. Thats due to the legislatures decision to end state sales tax holidays in the final budget compromise from the special session. But local sales tax exemptions are still in effect.
Local Sales Tax Board Executive Director Roger Bergeron says thats because the legislature may have just forgotten.
The language in act one did not change the language in the specific exemption in regards to local governments. |

Ken Paxton has been strongly committed to protecting constitutional rights in Texas, said Chris W. Cox, chairman, NRA-PVF. Paxton vigorously defended Texas' landmark campus carry law and worked to expand the rights of license to carry holders. He has been a champion for law-abiding gun owners."
Paxton earned an A+ rating from the NRA-PVF. This is the highest possible rating a candidate can attain and is reserved only for those with outstanding records of leadership on important Second Amendment issues. |
