I thanked God the man who broke in was off the streets and unhurt. I thanked God my daughter and her husband don't have a gun in the house.

This is what my daughter knows: A gun in the house is most likely to be used on someone who lives there. She has studied articles like the one Dr. Arthur Kellermann wrote in the Journal of Trauma, Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, titled "Injuries and Deaths Due to Firearms in the Home." He wrote that a gun in the home is 22 times more likely to be used to kill or injure in a domestic homicide, suicide or unintentional shooting than to be used in self-defense.

What a load of tripe.

This is one time that not having a gun ended well, but she was extremely lucky the intruder wasn't interesting in hurting someone.

It is much safer to have a gun and know how to use it.

Like a Foxworthy "you might be a redneck" skit:

You might be financing a drive to eliminate your own civil rights if...you tithe to the (insert anti-gun church of choice here, United Methodist or Roman Catholic is always a safe bet)

Every posting from a liberal is the chance to speak to their readers to school the liberal in front of them. In this article the writer is a pathetic dope who feels powerless at the mercy of a statistic we have long overcome; gun owners escape powerlessness by learning safe handling, home defense tactics, situational awareness, practice and other training so they will not become a statistic like the liberals. In short, refuse to be a victim and learn how that is done.

Very fortunate the young lady and her child encountered a real nutbar/druggie and not someone with more malicious intent. If the invader had been of more violent intent we all know the results. And we all know those of similar inclinations to this (very fortunate) victim will demand even more restrictive controls of whatever instrument was used to conduct the mayhem.
