Nevada state Rep. Michele Fiore is taking a very unique approach to promote her views on guns a calendar with images of her posing with firearms.

The main purpose of this calendar is to focus on the many positive aspects that firearms can play in our lives, a message on the back of the calendar reads. Every one of those activities begins with safety, from the storage and transportation to their use.

It was the kind of a statistic that would have left a sane country stunned and shamed.

This country barely noticed it.

It came last month, courtesy of the Washington Post, which reported that, as of mid-October, toddlers in America have been shooting people this year at a rate of one a week. You know how the story goes. Little one finds an inadequately-secured gun and starts playing with it, too young to know that death lurks inside. The thing goes off with a bang, leaving a hole sometimes a fatal one in human flesh.

As part of a measure designed to expand government funded research into gun violence as a health care issue, a bill introduced this week would free physicians to ask patients about gun ownership.

The proposal is supported by 37 House Democrats and would explore the links between gun ownership and gun violence according to its author, U.S. Rep. Mike Honda, D-Calif., who represents the Silicon Valley area.

In Silicon Valley, we recognize the power of research, said Honda in a statement. My Gun Violence Research Act seeks to bring this data-driven approach to the public sphere so that we may develop a more pointed strategy to understand and ultimately better address the public health crisis of gun violence.

The big-money gun lobby has taken aim at the integrity of Floridas democratic process as their Campus Carry bill House Bill 4001 gets closer to Gov. Rick Scotts desk.

The proceedings of the Nov. 4 meeting of the House Higher Education and Workforce Subcommittee, seemingly orchestrated by lobbyists, were designed to stifle public debate and silence opponents.

Why was an unrelated workshop scheduled during the same period, leaving less time for public testimony and debate?

Solutions that only infringe on the law-abiding

I still believe liberals mean well, and when they use their passion to defend and protect rights they like, they do well. When they use that passion to infringe rights they dont like, they remind me of the old KKK Democrats.

I will use an analogy to explain.

Liberals want universal background checks even though today they do nothing to actually prevent criminals from getting a gun. They do hinder the law-abiding from getting one. Failing a background check rarely, if ever, starts an investigation to see if a felon has just broken a law that has a mandatory 10-year sentence. Yet if that same felon tried to pass a fake $20, he would be arrested immediately.

The last week of October marked the 42nd annual National Association of Sporting Goods Wholesalers (NASGW) meeting, held in New Orleans, La. Gunmakers from all over the country met to show distributors their new wares for 2016. Some companies were hush-hush this year, preferring to launch their products at the 2016 SHOT Show next January. But others gave us a sneak peak at what the new year holds in store for shooting enthusiasts. Where available, MSRPs have been included.

Nothing must get in the way of Americans being able to defend themselves. were told, even if that means putting even more guns in even more hands. Especially if that means putting more guns in more hands.

Those who believe looser gun laws will prevent everything from gas station robberies to mass shootings are fond of quoting a statistic that seems to show a big up-side to our mania for easier access to firearms: Law-abiding citizens use their guns to protect themselves and prevent crimes 2.5 million times a year.

Pretty impressive. Only it isnt true.

The new Weatherby PA-459 TR 8-Shot is the tactical pump shotgun I like to think Id have built myself if I built shotguns. It fixes my biggest complaint with pump-guns, has everything it needs to do its job as it comes out of the box and can easily be modified within the bounds of practicality. Furthermore, it is lightweight, ergonomic and has a simple manual of arms. Painful as it is for a bitter cynic to admit, this is pretty much an ideal tactical pump shotgun.

In the wake of the 2013 Newtown shootings, two English teachers one from Sacramento, California, the other from Salt Lake City, Utah co-published a five-page curriculum on how to teach gun issues to children. Called The Battle Over Gun Control, the document supplies statistics about gun violence in the United States, and asks students to argue for and against stricter gun laws in a variety of exercises.

Nearly a month after a tragic mass shooting shook Umpqua Community College, a rural Oregon county roughly two hours west of the school passed a measure directing the sheriff to bypass state and federal gun laws if he judges them unconstitutional.

Coos County residents smoothly approved the Second Amendment Preservation Ordinance Tuesday with more than 60 percent voting for its passage. The ordinance bars public employees from using county funds to enforce any laws the sheriff deems unconstitutional.

The Chattooga County Republican Party raffled a gun without the proper paperwork, which is against the law in Georgia.

On Aug. 30, the political party raffled off an AR-15 semi-automatic rifle at the county fair. Selling the gun to raise money is legal. But, Sheriff Mark Schrader said, the members of the party did not apply for a raffle license. In Georgia, that is illegal.

The idea of 'armed rebellion' in the U.S. is ludicrous

In the Revolutionary War, Americans were essentially armed similarly to the British; they both had muskets, swords, and cannons. Now, the arms disparity between a tyrannical government and citizens is so huge that the idea of armed rebellion is ludicrous.

Assuming the military was part of the tyranny (which it would have to be for tyranny to have any meaning), any rebelling national band of patriots would be told something like, you either lay down your arms or the entire city of Dallas, Texas will disappear. You have one hour. If you continue, the next city to disappear will be Atlanta, Georgia.

The University of Florida can prohibit the possession of firearms in student housing on university property, a Florida appeals court ruled.

Florida Carry, a non-profit devoted to protecting citizens right to bear arms, sued the University of Florida and its then-President Bernie Machen last year.

It claimed that the Florida Constitution permits students to own a firearm at home, and a residence hall, as a home for students, should not be governed by the blanket prohibition on firearms on university property.

VCDL-PAC endorsed Republican Senator Dick Black beat anti-gun Democrat Jill McCabe by 5%.

Bloomberg poured a million dollars into that race to defeat Senator Black because of Senator Blacks strong pro-gun voting record.

It's been a while since the city tried a gun buyback. Rochester Police firearms trainer Officer Daniel Carlson says that ends Saturday.

"We have a fair amount of firearms crime in the city and our goal is to get some of those illegal handguns off the streets."

Police, with help from Wegmans, will collect unwanted, unused or even stolen guns: no questions asked. Carlson asks that you do it safely.

A Grand Valley State University student Senator wants punishment waived if a student uses a gun on campus in an emergency situation. He's introduced a resolution to that effect.

Student Senator Benjamin Soltis put forward his measure at the most recent Student Senate General Assembly meeting. In proposing the "good Samaritan" resolution, Soltis references state law which allows licensed conceal-carry permit holders to carry a gun on campuses with certain restrictions. However, GVSU's current policy only allows law enforcement to carry. Armored truck personnel are also exempted.
