We're told the world will end each time we see the slow recognition of our rights. The anti-rights gun grabbers said there would be blood in the streets if more civilians had guns. Several states went so far as to adopt constitutional carry, yet the world continues to turn as usual.

You are the reason why. You and your neighbors are reasonable people. Unfortunately, that is too mundane to make headlines. Let's give you credit and recognize just how responsible you are.

Benny Birchfield, the husband of late honky-tonk legend Jean Shepard, will not be charged for the fatal shooting that happened during an attack in his home this past weekend.

Birchfields involvement in the shooting death of Tanner Saunders, 21, has been ruled as self-defense by Sumner County authorities. On Saturday morning, Birchfield found Saunders attacking his granddaughter, Icie Sloan-Hawkins, with a knife in the basement of his Hendersonville, Tenn. home. In self-defense, Birchfield shot and killed Saunders.

The Vepr 12 manufactured at the Molot Oruzhie factory in Russia is a semi-automatic, box-fed magazine, 12-gauge shotgun that will rip, snort and tear through targets like a beast. There is nothing subtle about the Vepr 12. It was designed for self-defense, hunting, 3-Gun competitions, and any situation where you need to shoot and reload a 12-gauge shotgun fast. In this sense the Vepr speaks in volumes.

For a guy who says his biggest regret is not passing more gun control laws, President Barack Obama sure is pardoning a lot of criminals whove violated the gun laws already on the books. As the president took in the sun, sand and amazing golf available to him on his Hawaiian holiday vacation, he also took a moment to pardon or reduce the sentences of more than 200 federal inmates, many of them in federal prison for violating federal weapons laws.

Ed.: For values of 'criminals' that solely include people convicted of victimless crimes.

NRA Training Counselor Bernard Martinage grew up in Paris, France. Before he was 10 years old, his grandfather taught him how to hunt, shoot, and survive in the wilderness. He traded cards in school in order to buy his first .22 and a few years later, he bought his first pistol, a Colt Navy Brass black powder. As he got older, he joined the Association Nationale des Tireurs Amateurs et Collectionneurs (ANTAC or the National Association of Amateur Shooters and Collectors) and continued developing his rifle skills when he was deployed to the Congo in the 1980s.

For too long, the NRA has expended every drop of energy to its pathological demonization of gun control at every turn. Instead of that, and its disgusting meaningless lip service to gun violence victims every time we see another Sandy Hook, the NRA might take after Keene, act like human beings, and use its resources to start participating in some form of rational discussion. I won't hold my breath.

The reason you shouldn't sit on your porch with a gun while kids are going to school is the same reason you shouldn't gum up the working of the judiciary, deligitimize the president even when you don't agree with them or engage in hateful speech for sport. It's not because you're not allowed to, or don't have the right to, but simply because it's not the right thing to do, and when done, it routinely undermines our common interests.

Ed.: How dare you exercise your rights that I don't agree with!

MI: Meekhof's stance on guns in schools is disturbing

Sen. Arlan Meekhof's desire to change the ruling from the Michigan Court of Appeals to allow school districts to enact and enforce policies that make schools true "gun-free zones" is disturbing. I am a firm believer in the Second Amendment right of citizens to own and possess guns. The loophole that allows concealed pistol license holders to open carry in such zones, including schools, is in need of closing. Meekhof's position on this matter is no surprise, but the residents of the state that pays his salary do not agree with your position.

The Sheboygan County district attorney is calling on local and national gun organizations to support legislation banning those diagnosed with mental health conditions from possessing guns.

In an email last Friday, District Attorney Joe DeCecco said he believes federal and state background checks should include information on mental health conditions so that otherwise legal purchases of firearms could be denied.

Ed.: Only a miniscule percentage of the mentally ill are a danger to themselves or others. And even for those that are, a diagnosis alone is insufficient due process to violate a fundamental human right.

An advocate for Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, Wynter is a strong proponent of gun safety. We are not seeking to overturn nor limit the second amendment, she says, but rather to enhance the safety of guns by limiting their availability to those who are unfit to possess them.

The news media also wasnt doing their jobs when many outlets pretended the Orlando terror attack wasnt terrorism and instead decided to push for more gun control.

ISIS is committing terror attacks on U.S. soil and the media is treating it as some referendum on the Second Amendment, she said. Thats fake news.

Having lost the recent elections in miserable form, some disgruntled liberals are acting out in violence on American streets, while others are now arming and training themselves, according to a report from the BBC News.

One group sports the name Liberal Gun Club, interestingly integrating its left-wing political position into the club name.

As America has witnessed of late, the unabashed violence and intolerance exhibited by many of those on the left, who prior to losing the election continuously preached to conservatives about their empathy for others, is worthy of study by psychologists due to their radical 180-degree change of mindset.

Ed.: The 'Liberal Gun Club' is a longstanding pro-gun group, not a post-election group.

In these troubled times an average Merican never knows when he might need to hold off a hoard of Jihadists or an overreaching tyrannical government so Id appreciate an assault weapon or two with an ample supply of ammunition. As a firm believer in the Second Amendment I think every home should be defended by crew served weapons so any gifts along those lines would be greatly appreciated. No questions will be asked about their origins. Merry Christmas and pass the ammo.

#DumpStarWars Distracts from Rogue One Citizen Militia Theme

Because Iger is right, the central theme of the Star Wars franchise is not political. A rebellion exists because politics have failed. There is now nothing left to victims of totalitarianism but to submit to tyranny or to rebel and fight for freedom or die trying. Kind of like what Schlesinger alluded to, but cant follow up on without admitting some very inconvenient truths

Such a rebellion, of course, requires an armed citizenry banding together as a militia, which, as per previous Star Wars movies, is exactly what is happening in Rogue One. Protagonist Jyn Erso demands and appropriates a weapon, noting her accepted retention of it is a sign that trust goes both ways.

In announcing her resignation Thursday, Roach reflected on her 25 years in office, which featured work on public safety, open government and defense of the Second Amendment. A news release from her Olympia office said 123 bills Roach introduced are now law. She was first elected to the state Senate in 1990 and is the longest-serving member of the Senate.

The return of a gun show to Westchester County is stirring up controversy. Local Democrats are crafting legislation to ban the show while Republicans are proposing a law to mandate model gun show procedures.

A gun and knife show is scheduled to return to the Westchester County Center in White Plains in January after a four-year hiatus. Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and the vendor had decided against holding the show in February 2013 following the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting tragedy in neighboring Connecticut in December 2012. Phil Oliva is senior advisor to Astorino.

Because they believe Trump's election has emboldened anti-LGBT, anti-immigrant, anti-minority and anti-feminist elements within the population, some liberals are arming themselves.

Local author Layce Gardner said she recently had a frightening encounter, and has purchased a firearm. She will take lessons in its use.

"I am not fond of gun ownership, but since the election of Trump, we are seeing black, brown, and gay people victimized," Gardner said. "I went to buy a gun, and I am taking classes in January so I can carry it with me. A lot of my friends have said they are scared. Some liberals around the country who did not want a gun in any way are buying them after the election of Trump."

New Yorks ban on electronic weapons is being challenged by a federal lawsuit filed earlier this month.

Matthew Avitable, the mayor of Middleburgh, and the Firearms Policy Foundation are suing the state on the grounds that the ban violates the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman, and State Police Superintendent Lt. Col. George Beach are listed as defendants in the case.

A 32-year-old man who broke into a Dayton Drive home, assaulted two residents and was stabbed in the chest Saturday now faces a felony burglary charge, the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office said Thursday.

Deputies responded to the reports of a home invasion at 3:46 a.m. Dec. 17 and found a car has crashed nearby. Patrol officers confirmed the driver, Wayne S. Rogers of Athol, was their suspect, the sheriff's office said.

Investigators believe Rogers came to the residence in search of a person he'd been text messaging about "a lover's quarrel which had caused him to become enraged," the sheriff's office said.

College students and professors in Ohio could be walking around campus this spring carrying concealed guns with their textbooks and laptops.

But don't expect that to happen at the University of Cincinnati, Miami University, Xavier University and other colleges around the region.

Gov. John Kasich signed a bill into law Monday allowing university boards to make an exception in campus policy to allow licensed individuals to carry concealed handguns. The new law also reduces the severity of the charge a licensed individual could face for carrying a concealed handgun in a place that bans the practice. The charge was downgraded from a felony to a minor misdemeanor.
